Small fleets in a Yuba County farm town
FMCSA’s carrier census lists 113 active motor carriers with a Plumas Lake address, 67 of them authorised for interstate work and 46 kept to California hauls. If yours is one of those intrastate outfits, have the California registration card and the title in the same folder before you call; together they show who signs for the truck.
Fifteen of those Plumas Lake carriers are private fleets moving their own goods, according to the same federal census. A truck owned by a farm or a contractor rather than a for-hire carrier is just as welcome; tell us the name on the title and whether a business officer or the owner personally will sign.
Most fleets here are small. On FMCSA’s register the three biggest Plumas Lake operations run 27, 7 and 6 power units, with 28, 8 and 7 drivers. Selling one tractor out of a two- or three-truck shop is the usual case for us, and a single VIN with photos of the cab, frame and tires is enough to start.
Produce, meat and reefer loads from the Yuba side
General freight is the cargo class most Plumas Lake carriers file, at 91 according to FMCSA’s carrier census, while 26 list fresh produce, 23 refrigerated food and 23 meat. Reefer tractors and their trailers are both things we collect; if you are selling the unit and the trailer together, send the trailer’s VIN and plate along with the tractor’s.
USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture counts 760 farms in Yuba County, with rice, cattle and honey at the head of the list. A tractor that has spent harvest hauling rice or livestock off those farms may be parked at the ranch rather than in town, so give us the road and gate details and the name of whoever can let the driver in.
Farm, forestry and fishing work fills 97 of the 302 Plumas Lake jobs that the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts recorded in 2023, roughly a third at 32.1 percent. For a truck parked between harvests, a recent photo of the odometer and the dash, sent with the title, is the place to start.
Sand, gravel and quarry trucks east of town
The Mine Safety and Health Administration registers Capital Rock LLC, an industrial-mineral mine, 11.8 miles east of Plumas Lake, and GMcB Lincoln Pits & Mill 15.5 miles in the same direction. Dump trucks and transfer rigs that work those pits can be picked up at the yard where they are kept; tell us the site and whether a loader or gate key is needed to reach the truck.
Marysville sits 14.6 miles north-east and Western Aggregates LLC 14.9 miles, both sand and gravel operations on MSHA’s mine list, with Parks Bar Quarry, a crushed-stone site, 20.6 miles out. If your truck hauled rock from Parks Bar or the Yuba River pits, any scale tickets or service logs you kept help us match the truck to its work.
Builders are part of the local mix too: 44 construction establishments show up for Plumas Lake in the Census Bureau’s County Business Patterns. Contractors selling a dump truck, water truck or flatbed from a job site can leave it there; give us the site address, the job contact and a photo of the body and hoist alongside the cab.
Long hauls from a small Yuba County base
FMCSA’s carrier census counts 182 drivers at Plumas Lake carriers who run beyond 100 air miles and 21 who stay within that radius. A sleeper that spends the week on Interstate freight may be away from Yuba County when you decide to sell; tell us where it will be parked and we arrange the collection there.
The 59 Plumas Lake carriers that gave FMCSA a mileage figure put their median truck at 65,210 miles a year. That figure is simply how these trucks are used; a current odometer photo and the most recent service record are all we ask for on mileage.
New registrations keep arriving, with FMCSA listing 8 carriers that started up in Plumas Lake in 2025 and 7 in 2024. A newer authority selling its first truck needs the same papers as anyone else: the title, the registration and the USDOT number the truck ran under.
Model years Plumas Lake trucks carry at inspection
Between September 2024 and August 2026, inspectors stopped 223 trucks belonging to Plumas Lake carriers, and FMCSA roadside inspection records put the median of those at model year 2020. Whatever the year on your title, put it in the first message with the make and model so the questions that follow are about your truck.
Just over a fifth of that Plumas Lake group, 21.5 percent in the federal roadside inspection records, carried a model year ten or more years back. Older and newer units go through the same steps with us: photos, the VIN, the title, and a time when someone can meet the driver.
Rail yards, Beale and where trucks get collected
The North American Rail Network, kept by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, places Davis Yard 21.9 miles south-east of Plumas Lake and Woodland Yard 23.9 miles south-west. A truck that shuttles to either yard can be collected near it; give us the lot name and the person who controls access.
North-east toward Wheatland, the Bureau of Transportation Statistics marks Beale Air Force Base 13.1 miles from Plumas Lake. Vehicles parked on a secured base cannot be reached without escort, so if your truck sits inside Beale, move it to an off-base address first and send us that location.
The questions we get asked in Plumas Lake
- My dump truck is parked at a pit toward Marysville. Does it have to be driven home to Plumas Lake first?Western Aggregates LLC and S.R.I. Marysville are both about 15 miles north-east on MSHA’s mine list, and we collect from yards like those. Send the site name and a gate contact.
- I run a reefer for produce out of Yuba County. Will you take a produce reefer from here?Twenty-six Plumas Lake carriers file fresh produce and 23 refrigerated food with FMCSA, and reefer tractors are on our list. Send the tractor VIN, and the trailer VIN if it goes with it.
- The truck is at a farm, not in town. Can you get to a Yuba County ranch? With 760 Yuba County farms in USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture, ranch pickups are routine here. Give us the road, the gate details and someone who can meet the driver.
- Which papers should a Plumas Lake owner pull together? For a Plumas Lake truck, the California title and registration, the VIN, the USDOT number it ran under, and photos of the cab, frame and tires cover what we ask first.
