Forty-four carriers, nearly all of them intrastate
FMCSA’s carrier census counts 44 active motor carriers based in Rancho Mirage, and 41 of those run intrastate while only 3 are registered for interstate work. If your truck has spent its working life on California roads, the registration and the title you already hold in this state are the two papers to set beside the VIN when you contact us.
Eleven of the 44 are private fleets, according to the same FMCSA census, meaning the company owns the trucks to move its own goods rather than to haul for hire. A private-fleet owner selling a unit should have the name on the title match the business that runs it; if the title is still in a founder’s personal name, tell us so at the start.
The three biggest operations in town are small, with the FMCSA census listing two at 3 power units and one at a single power unit. An owner-operator with one or two trucks is the usual seller here, so you are likely the person holding the keys, the title and the service folder all at once.
Movers, freight and passenger work
General freight is the cargo class listed most often, carried by 6 Rancho Mirage carriers in FMCSA’s census, with household goods next at 4. A box truck or straight truck that has moved furniture between desert homes is the kind of unit we collect here; send photos of the box interior along with the cab and the tires.
Two local carriers haul motor vehicles and two carry passengers, per the federal carrier census kept by FMCSA. For a car hauler, photograph the ramps and deck from both sides; for a passenger vehicle, include the seating area and the door the riders use, so the pictures show what the vehicle did.
New registrations have been sparse, with FMCSA’s census showing 1 new carrier in 2025 and 1 in 2024. If yours was one of those recent starts and the truck is financed, have the lender’s name and contact ready; the lien release goes with the title.
Two pits north and east of town
Just 5.8 miles north of Rancho Mirage, the Thousand Palms Pit appears in Mine Safety and Health Administration records as an active sand and gravel site. Dump trucks and end dumps that load at a pit like that are often parked on site between jobs; give us the gate location and the name of whoever can let us in, and we collect it from there.
Further out, HJ HOVE is a sand and gravel operation 11.1 miles east of the city on Mine Safety and Health Administration records. A haul truck kept at that yard does not need to be driven into town for a sale; tell us which pit it sits at and whether a lowboy can reach it.
Desert contractors and supply drops
Of 15,544 jobs located in Rancho Mirage in 2023, the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts place 169 in construction, about 1.1 percent. Contractors here run flatbeds, dump bodies and service trucks; if yours carries a crane, a lift gate or a toolbox body, list that equipment and its model in your first message.
County Business Patterns from the Census Bureau records 39 construction establishments in Rancho Mirage, and LEHD counts 54 wholesale trade jobs in the city. A delivery straight truck from a wholesale route usually sits at a business address; say whether it is behind a fence or in an open lot, so the pickup can be arranged with the property.
Riverside County’s dairies and growers
USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture counts 2,424 farms across Riverside County, with milk, mushrooms and cotton as the leading products. Milk tankers, refrigerated units for mushroom growers and flatbeds that served cotton fields all come off farms like these.
A farm truck may carry agricultural plates or be titled to a family operation instead of a person, so check whose name the title shows before you call. If it sits out at a field or dairy rather than in Rancho Mirage itself, tell us the road and any landmarks, and we will plan around where it is parked.
Open clearances and CARB’s rule list
Across the city’s 6 spans in the National Bridge Inventory, kept by the Federal Highway Administration, Rancho Mirage shows zero weight-posted bridges and zero clearances under 14 feet. A tall box truck or loaded tractor can be brought out from a local street to a pickup point without a low structure in the way.
On California’s clean truck rules, the California Air Resources Board lists the Advanced Clean Fleets drayage, high priority and federal fleet requirements as repealed, and the Advanced Clean Trucks regulation as contested. A federal court record shows enforcement of the 2036 zero-emission sales requirement paused. Whatever brings you to sell, keep the truck’s engine model year and its CARB reporting record on hand.

- Would you take the single box truck from my Rancho Mirage moving business?FMCSA’s census lists 4 Rancho Mirage carriers hauling household goods, and a single moving truck from an owner-operator is exactly what we collect. Have the title, registration and a few photos of the box ready.
- My tractor never left California roads; what paperwork do you want to see?Forty-one of the 44 carriers in FMCSA’s Rancho Mirage census are intrastate, so a California-only truck is the norm here. Your California title and current registration are what we need to see.
