Quarry and mine sites on the edge of town
The Mine Safety and Health Administration lists the Orange County Operation, an industrial-mineral mine, 1.1 miles west of Rancho Mission Viejo, and Greenstone Materials Quarry, a sand and gravel operation, 3.2 miles north. A dump truck or end-dump tractor that hauls out of either one can be collected at the site or at the yard where it overnights; send us the gate address and the name of whoever holds the key.
Further out, Pacific Aggregates Pits sits 16.7 miles north-east and Pacific Clay Pits 17.6 miles north-east, both on the Mine Safety and Health Administration’s register. If your aggregate hauler splits its days between those pits and the Greenstone quarry, photograph the bed, the hoist, the cab and the VIN plate together so we see the whole truck in one set.
For any truck that has worked quarry ground, have the title in hand along with the current registration card, and dig out whatever service log the shop kept. Those three papers settle most of the questions before we ask them.
Eleven small carriers and what they haul
Eleven carriers are active here in FMCSA’s carrier census, and ten of them run intrastate only, with one crossing state lines. Most trucks on the local roster therefore carry California registration alone, so put the California title and current registration in one envelope before you call us.
Sorted by cargo in FMCSA’s carrier census, four local outfits haul general freight, four carry passengers, two collect trash and one moves dry bulk. Shuttle buses, refuse packers, box trucks and a bulk hauler can all come to us from the same small group of operators.
Fleet sizes stay modest: FMCSA’s records show the top three local operators running 8, 3 and 2 power units, and five of the eleven carriers are private fleets moving their own goods. If you are a private fleet retiring one unit from a handful, tell us which one and where it is kept, and the rest of your vehicles stay on the job.
Jobs, builders and plants in the area
Of 3,433 jobs located in Rancho Mission Viejo in 2023, the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts place 231 in manufacturing and 51 in construction. Flatbeds, stake beds and delivery trucks that serve those workplaces are the kind we collect from a shop lot or a jobsite.
Builders are thick on the ground: 53 construction establishments appear for this town in the Census Bureau’s County Business Patterns. A contractor’s dump truck or crew-cab flatbed parked at a home base or a building site is fine to leave in place; give us the address and a phone number for whoever is on site.
If a construction or manufacturing business is selling under its company name, bring a letter or resolution showing who may sign for it, alongside the title. That keeps the paperwork in one sitting.
Toward the Marine base and its rail sidings
Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton lies 13.2 miles south-east of town on the Bureau of Transportation Statistics’ list of military installations, with the Fallbrook installation 19.3 miles out in the same direction. A truck kept near either one does not need to be driven back to Rancho Mission Viejo; we come to the address you give us.
Two rail yards, Stuart Mesa Facility Yard and Stuart Mesa Yard, sit 20.5 miles south-east in the North American Rail Network kept by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics. If your tractor is parked by a yard or a base gate, check whether access needs a pass and tell us before we schedule the collection.
Horse, honey and flower operations
USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture counts 158 farms across Orange County, with equine, honey and cut flowers and cultivated greens as the leading products. Pickups that pull horse trailers, flower delivery box trucks and flatbeds used around ranch property all fit what we purchase.
A farm truck is often titled to a person rather than a business, so check whose name is on the title before you reach out. If the ranch owner is away, a photo of the signed title and the truck’s location is enough for us to start.
Status of CARB’s three truck regulations
On the California Air Resources Board’s own notice, the Advanced Clean Trucks Regulation is contested, and CARB’s rulemaking file shows the Advanced Clean Fleets drayage and high priority fleet requirements repealed. Neither status changes what you need to sell: a title, a registration and photos of the truck.
A federal court filing in the Eastern District of California records enforcement of the state’s zero-emission sales requirement for medium- and heavy-duty trucks as paused. If you were holding a truck while that rule was pending, its status is a fact you can weigh on your own schedule, and we will collect the truck whenever you decide.
The questions we get asked in Rancho Mission Viejo
- Can you pick up an end-dump that never leaves the Greenstone pit?Greenstone Materials Quarry sits 3.2 miles north of Rancho Mission Viejo on the Mine Safety and Health Administration’s list, and we collect from the quarry if the operator lets us through the gate. Give us a contact who can open it.
- I run a refuse truck for a small local outfit. Would you collect a packer like that? Two of the 11 carriers in FMCSA’s carrier census for Rancho Mission Viejo haul garbage and refuse, and packers like theirs are trucks we purchase. Packer body, hopper and cab photos plus the VIN get the conversation going.
- Our passenger shuttle is registered only in California. Is an in-state-only bus a problem?Ten of the eleven carriers here run intrastate only on FMCSA’s records, and four of them carry passengers, so a California-only bus is ordinary for this town. Keep its California title and this year’s registration card with the bus.
