A short roster
Forty-three carriers and the loads they name
FMCSA’s carrier census lists 43 active carriers with a Redway address, and 42 of them hold intrastate authority only, with a single carrier registered for interstate work. Seventeen of the 43 are private fleets carrying their own goods, by the same FMCSA count. A tractor that has spent its whole life on California roads is a normal thing to sell here; mention the routes it ran when you first write to us and the questions that follow will be about the truck itself.
Fourteen Redway carriers declare general freight to FMCSA, seven declare logs, poles, beams and lumber, five declare machinery and large objects, and four declare farm supplies. A log truck with its bunks still on, a lowboy tractor that moved equipment, or a flatbed that ran feed are each trucks we buy. Say which of those four kinds of work yours did, and photograph the deck, the hitch or the fifth wheel along with the cab.
Small yards, parked tractors
Three Redway fleets in FMCSA’s carrier census run eight, six and five power units, with two, two and three drivers apiece. A yard with more tractors than drivers has units standing between jobs, and a standing tractor can be sold from the spot it occupies. Send the yard address, a photo of the approach and the name of whoever holds the gate key.
The Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts put work for 425 people in Redway in 2023, and FMCSA’s carrier census records one carrier newly registered here in 2025 and two in 2024. An owner who took out authority in those years and is now handing it back can sell the tractor without closing the authority first; the two are separate pieces of paper. Keep the title and the registration card in the cab when the photos go out.
Two pits
Gravel south-east, crushed stone north
The Mine Safety and Health Administration lists Randall Sand & Gravel, a sand and gravel operation 2.2 miles south-east of Redway, and Bear Butte Quarry, a crushed-stone quarry 6.1 miles north of town. A dump truck or transfer rig that loaded at either pit is one we buy; tell us which pit it worked and whether it is a tandem or a tri-axle, and send a photo of the bed from above.
The Census Bureau’s County Business Patterns finds three construction establishments inside Redway itself. Aggregate from the two pits goes to jobs like theirs, and a truck on that work is often parked at a yard rather than at home. We collect from the yard; give us the address and a picture of where the truck stands so the driver knows the way in.
Milk, cattle and hemp
Ranch trucks beyond the town line
Out from Redway, the farms of Humboldt County number 721 in USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture, with milk, cattle and hemp leading the county’s output. Farm supplies are the declared cargo of four Redway carriers in FMCSA’s carrier census. A bobtail that delivered feed, a flatbed that carried hay or a tractor that pulled a stock trailer are all trucks we buy, and any service records the ranch kept belong with the title.
Of the drivers FMCSA’s carrier census ties to Redway carriers, 29 work within a hundred-mile radius and 44 beyond it. A ranch truck tends to sit at the ranch, not in town; leave it there, give us the gate address and a contact who can meet our driver, and the sale happens where the truck is. Photos of the cab, the frame and the bed or hitch are enough to begin.
Evergreen Road
The field office a mile from the centre
A lost title for a Redway truck is replaced through the State of California Department of Motor Vehicles, whose Garberville field office stands at 1180 Evergreen Rd, Redway, 95560, 1.1 miles from the centre of town. Apply for the duplicate there before you send us the truck’s details, and the handover needs no second trip to an office.
The same DMV field office sorts out a registration card that is missing or out of date. Take the title, the registration and your photo identification on the visit, and write down the odometer reading while you are at the truck; the reading and the VIN are the first two things we ask for. Service records are welcome but not required; tell us what the truck did and we ask about the rest.
Three state rules, three different statuses
The Advanced Clean Trucks Regulation is contested, with the California Air Resources Board having approved amendments to it, and the state’s requirement that every medium- and heavy-duty sale be zero-emission from 2036 has its enforcement paused under a federal court order. Redway’s carriers run under whichever version of those rules survives, and a diesel tractor registered here sells to us the same way whatever the next ruling says.
The drayage-fleet and high-priority-fleet parts of the Advanced Clean Fleets Regulation have been repealed, by the California Air Resources Board’s own rulemaking. None of the three rules changes what we buy. If the truck has any emissions paperwork, put it with the title; if it has none, say so and nothing more is asked about it.
The questions we get asked in Redway
- My log truck is parked at a landing north of Redway, out toward Bear Butte. Is that too far off the road for a pickup?Bear Butte Quarry is 6.1 miles north of Redway in the Mine Safety and Health Administration’s listing, and we collect from a landing or yard in that direction as readily as from a driveway in town. Send the turn-off, the gate contact and a photo of the approach.
- My truck’s title went missing years ago. Which office in Redway issues a replacement? The Garberville field office of the State of California Department of Motor Vehicles, at 1180 Evergreen Rd, Redway, 95560, sits 1.1 miles from town and issues the duplicate. Take the registration and your identification, and send us the truck’s details once the application is in.
- My carrier only ever ran inside California. Is an in-state-only history a problem for the sale?Forty-two of Redway’s 43 carriers in FMCSA’s carrier census are intrastate, and an in-state history is the usual one here. Tell us the routes and the kind of loads, and the rest of our questions follow from the VIN.
- The truck hauled farm supplies and now sits on a ranch outside town. Should I tow it into Redway before you look at it?Four Redway carriers list farm supplies with FMCSA, and ranch pickups are part of the job here. Leave the truck where it is, give us the gate address and a contact, and bring the title and registration to the handover.
- Do the state’s clean-truck rules stop me selling a diesel tractor? The Advanced Clean Trucks Regulation is contested, the zero-emission sales requirement for 2036 has its enforcement paused, and the drayage and high-priority fleet rules have been repealed, by the California Air Resources Board’s record and the court’s. None of them stops a sale; we buy the diesel tractor as it is registered today.
