Mendocino aggregate sites
Crushed stone north-west, sand and gravel to the south
Seven and a half miles north-west of Redwood Valley, the Mine Safety and Health Administration lists Harris Quarry as a crushed-stone operation. A dump truck or end-dump tractor that has hauled from that pit may still be parked near the quarry road or back at a yard in the valley; give us the street address where it sits and we plan the collection around it.
Heading the other way, Ford Gravel is a sand and gravel site 9.4 miles south of town on the Mine Safety and Health Administration’s list. If your truck worked gravel loads between there and Ukiah, have the title, current registration and any service records together before you call, so the paperwork matches the photos you send.
Farther up the north-west corridor, the Mine Safety and Health Administration places the Longvale Plant of Grist Creek Aggregates 23.1 miles out. A truck based at that end of the county can stay where it is; we come to it, so send a note on whether a pickup can reach it from the road.
Trucking outfits based around the valley
FMCSA’s carrier census lists 141 active carriers registered in Redwood Valley, and 135 of them run intrastate only, with 6 crossing state lines. Most trucks sold from here have spent their working lives on California roads, so a California title and registration in your name is the main document to find.
Of those 141, the federal census counts 45 as private fleets hauling their own goods rather than freight for hire. A ranch, vineyard or contractor that owns a single truck is a seller we deal with directly; tell us the business name on the title so the transfer is signed by the right person.
Small outfits dominate here: the three biggest registered fleets in town run 11, 7 and 6 power units, by FMCSA’s count. Selling one truck out of a handful is straightforward, and we can look at a second or third unit on the same visit if you list them together.
Lumber to livestock feed
Logs, lowboys and feed runs out of Redwood Valley
General freight is the most common cargo line, with 36 Redwood Valley carriers declaring it to FMCSA, followed by 22 hauling machinery and large objects. Lowboys, flatbeds and the tractors that pull them fit that mix; photograph the trailer hitch, deck and tires along with the cab.
Fifteen local carriers list logs, poles, beams and lumber in FMCSA’s carrier census, and 12 list farm supplies. A log truck or a bobtail that moves feed and fencing around the valley is the kind of unit we collect; mention any bunks, stakes or loaders mounted on it so we know what comes with the truck.
In FMCSA’s figures, 32 Redwood Valley carriers reported mileage, with a median of 10,000 miles per truck a year. Have the current odometer reading ready, along with the VIN, when you first get in touch.
Fifty-one checked trucks, middle model year 2016
FMCSA roadside inspection records cover 51 trucks from Redwood Valley carriers checked between October 2024 and August 2026, and their median model year was 2016. Keep the most recent inspection report with the truck; it confirms the VIN and plate in one document.
Among those same 51 inspected trucks, 47 percent were ten or more model years old, according to the inspection records. Older and newer units both go through the same steps with us: VIN, photos, title and the location where the truck is parked.
Duplicate titles through the Ukiah field office
Titles in this state are issued by the State of California Department of Motor Vehicles, and the closest of its DMV field offices to Redwood Valley is the Ukiah office at 542 S Orchard Avenue, Ukiah, 95482, about 8.4 miles away. If the certificate is missing, that is where a duplicate is requested.
A truck with a lienholder listed needs a release from the lender before the title can move to us. Get that letter, plus a duplicate from the Ukiah field office if needed, started early, and tell us at the first call which of the two you are waiting on.
Clean-truck regulations as they apply to a valley owner
The California Air Resources Board’s Advanced Clean Trucks Regulation is currently contested. For the 2036 sales requirement for zero-emission medium- and heavy-duty vehicles, enforcement has been put on hold, as a federal court filing records.
The drayage, high-priority and federal fleet parts of the Advanced Clean Fleets Regulation have been repealed, per the Air Resources Board’s rulemaking notice. Redwood Valley owners selling a diesel truck should note the engine year when they send the VIN.
Ranch and contractor trucks
Ranches, crews and the jobs around them
USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture counts 975 farms across Mendocino County, with cattle, sheep and potted flowering plants leading the list. For a stock truck or flatbed parked on a ranch outside Redwood Valley, tell us whether the entrance is gated so the pickup is arranged at the right spot.
Redwood Valley had 217 jobs in 2023 under the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts, while 29 construction establishments appear in the Census Bureau’s County Business Patterns. Contractors retiring a dump truck or a water truck between projects can send photos and the title details whenever the unit comes off a job.
The questions we get asked in Redwood Valley
- Do you collect trucks parked out near Harris Quarry or Ford Gravel?Harris Quarry is 7.5 miles north-west and Ford Gravel 9.4 miles south of town on the Mine Safety and Health Administration’s list, and a truck at either can be picked up where it stands. Tell us which pit road it is on and whether a gate code is needed.
- I can’t find the title for my Redwood Valley log truck, so who issues a replacement near Ukiah? The Ukiah DMV field office of the State of California Department of Motor Vehicles, at 542 S Orchard Avenue, about 8.4 miles from town, handles duplicate titles. Take identification and the VIN from the cab plate or door jamb.
- I only run one ranch truck, not a fleet. Is a single-truck owner someone you buy from?Forty-five of the 141 carriers in FMCSA’s carrier census for Redwood Valley are private fleets, many of them single trucks. A sole owner sells to us the same way: title, registration, photos and the location.
- Does the California clean-truck situation stop me selling a diesel? The Advanced Clean Fleets drayage and high-priority requirements were repealed by the Air Resources Board, and enforcement of the 2036 zero-emission sales requirement is on hold. A Redwood Valley owner selling a diesel sends us the VIN, engine year, photos and title details as with any truck.
