Quarry country to the north-west of Rio del Mar
Olive Springs Quarry Inc, a crushed-stone quarry listed by the Mine Safety and Health Administration, is 7.1 miles north-west of Rio del Mar. If your end dump or transfer truck has hauled aggregate out of there, it may still be parked near the quarry or at a yard nearby; give us that address rather than moving it down to the coast.
Two more operations on the Mine Safety and Health Administration’s list sit further up the same side of the county: the Quail Hollow sand and gravel operation 12.7 miles north-west, and Felton Quarry 12.9 miles west. A truck that has hauled from those pits is one we can pick up at the quarry gate, so tell us who on site can let our driver in.
For any quarry truck, the paperwork that helps most is the title in your name and the current California registration card. Add photos of the bed, the hoist, the frame rails and the cab, plus the VIN plate, and we have what we need to talk with you about the truck.
Watsonville Yard, just down the coast
The North American Rail Network, kept by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, places Watsonville Yard 8.8 miles south-east of Rio del Mar, with a second track segment of that yard 9.4 miles to the east. Day cabs and straight trucks that shuttle loads to and from the yard are part of what we buy.
If your tractor is kept at a lot near the Watsonville tracks, leave it there. Send us the street address, say whether a gate code or a key holder is involved, and our driver plans the collection around the yard rather than around your home.
Nursery and flowers
Hauling for Santa Cruz County growers
USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture counts 614 farms in Santa Cruz County, with propagative material, potted flowering plants, and cut flowers and cultivated greens at the top of its list. Reefer box trucks, stake beds and small tractors that move nursery stock and flowers out of the county belong on our list of trucks to buy.
With a refrigerated unit, photograph the reefer’s data plate and hour meter along with the truck’s odometer. If the truck sits at a nursery or a grower’s barn rather than at your house, give us the grower’s address and a contact who can open the gate.
Jobs on the books in Rio del Mar
Of 1,458 jobs located in Rio del Mar in 2023, the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts (LODES) put 74 in transportation and warehousing, a 5.1 percent share. Owner-operators and small delivery outfits who live along this part of the bay can sell a box truck, a cargo van or a tractor straight from the driveway.
Construction filled 62 of those 1,458 positions, or 4.3 percent, on the same LEHD figures from the Census Bureau. Contractors here who are letting go of a flatbed, a dump truck or a service body truck can hand us the keys at the job yard; have the title and any service records together before we arrive.
Further south
Trucks parked down toward Monterey
The Bureau of Transportation Statistics lists two military installations about 25 miles south of Rio del Mar: the Presidio of Monterey at 24.6 miles and NAVSUPPACT Monterey at 24.9 miles. If you have moved on from a posting there and left a truck behind in Monterey County, the sale does not depend on you being on the peninsula.
Tell us where the truck is parked, name someone nearby who can hand over the keys, and sign the title from wherever you now live. Make sure the registered owner on the title matches the name of the person selling it.
Air Resources Board truck rules as they apply on the Santa Cruz coast
The California Air Resources Board’s Advanced Clean Fleets requirements for drayage fleets and for high priority and federal fleets have been repealed, according to the board’s 2025 rulemaking record. The Advanced Clean Trucks Regulation is listed as contested, and enforcement of the 2036 zero-emission sales requirement for medium- and heavy-duty vehicles is paused under a federal court order from the Eastern District of California.
None of that changes what we need from a Rio del Mar seller: the title, the registration and clear photos. If you hold engine or emissions paperwork for the truck, include it with the rest.

- Can a day cab stored beside the rail yard on the Watsonville side of the county be collected without me driving it up the coast?Watsonville Yard is 8.8 miles south-east of Rio del Mar on the North American Rail Network, and our driver picks the tractor up from the lot.
