Mixed loads, reefers and paper rolls from a Salida base
Of the 143 Salida outfits still active, general freight appears on the cargo sheets of 78, going by FMCSA’s carrier census. If your tractor or box truck has spent its time on mixed loads between Salida and the Modesto or Stockton side, a VIN, the registration card and a few clear photos of the cab and frame are enough for us to start.
Fresh produce and paper products each show up on the cargo lists of 11 Salida carriers, with beverages on 9, according to the same FMCSA census. A reefer unit or a beverage body comes to us as part of the truck, so photograph the reefer or the bay doors along with the tractor and note the reefer’s hours if the controller shows them.
Of those 143 Salida carriers in FMCSA’s census, 116 run intrastate only, 27 are authorised for interstate work, and 22 are private fleets hauling their own goods. A truck that has only ever worked inside California still needs its California title in hand when we collect, signed by whoever is named on it.
Local versus long runs
Short-haul routes around the north valley
On FMCSA’s carrier census, Salida firms put 103 drivers on runs that stay inside 100 miles and send 179 beyond that line. Whichever kind of route your truck ran, tell us the yard or street where it parks now, since that is where our driver will meet it.
Among the 37 Salida carriers that filed mileage with FMCSA, the median truck covers 40,000 miles a year. Write the odometer reading down on the day you contact us and send a photo of the dash, so the figure you give matches the one we see at pickup.
The three biggest fleets in town, by FMCSA’s carrier census, run 30, 17 and 8 power units, with 27, 17 and 7 drivers respectively. Selling several units from one yard works the same way as one: list each VIN, and say which trucks share a title holder.
Pits along the Stanislaus and the Modesto rail yards
Munn & Perkins Pit & Mill, a sand and gravel operation 7.1 miles north-east of Salida, is on the Mine Safety and Health Administration’s list, and the Mossdale Plant sits 13.2 miles west. A dump truck or end-dump tractor parked at a pit can be collected right there; give us a site contact who can let our driver through the gate.
South-east of town, the North American Rail Network shows MODESTO YARD at 7.1 miles and MODESTO TERMINAL YARD at 7.4 miles. If your day cab has been shuttling to those yards, keep the service records in the cab and tell us where it is parked between runs.
Container moves head the other way: the Bureau of Transportation Statistics lists intermodal ramps at Lathrop, 13.1 miles north-west, and Stockton, 13.9 miles north-west. Note any chassis or container gear that is not yours and leave it off the list of what is being sold.
How old the rigs stopped near Salida tend to be
A sample of 97 Salida-based rigs pulled over for checks from September 2024 through August 2026 lands on a median model year of 2019 in FMCSA roadside inspection records. Give us the model year from the title or registration so the paperwork and the truck agree from the first message.
Those roadside records from FMCSA also show 29.9 percent of the Salida units stopped carried a model year a decade or more back. Any model year is fine to send; what helps is the build plate photo and the engine make, which together answer most of our questions.
Plant floors, job sites and dairies near Salida
Manufacturing accounts for 886 of the 6,022 jobs located in Salida in 2023, per the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts, and construction for 669. Flatbeds, stake beds and dump trucks from either line of work are trucks we buy, and a site truck can be picked up where the job left it.
Salida holds 29 construction businesses, a figure the Census Bureau’s County Business Patterns reports. If a contractor’s truck carries a company title, the person signing for the business should be ready to sign when our driver arrives.
Stanislaus County had 3,455 farms in USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture, with milk ahead of cattle and corn among its products. A cattle hauler, feed truck or silage truck sitting on a dairy can stay there; send directions to the barn or shop where it is parked.
Gate access, duplicate titles and the Salida handover
The Def Distr Reg West Sharpe Site, 13.5 miles north-west, and NG Lathrop, 14.2 miles north-west, both appear as military installations in the Bureau of Transportation Statistics listings. A truck kept behind a controlled gate needs an access arrangement before collection, so tell us the base and who can escort our driver.
If the title has gone missing, the state’s title agency issues a duplicate to the owner on record, and that copy is what we need at pickup. Have the registration, any lien release and the service records together, and the handover in Salida is a signature and a set of keys.
The questions we get asked in Salida
- My dump truck sits at a gravel pit outside Salida. Will your driver load it out of the pit itself?Munn & Perkins Pit & Mill lies 7.1 miles north-east of town by the Mine Safety and Health Administration’s listing, and we collect from pits like it where the truck stands. Give us the site contact and gate hours.
- My produce truck out of Salida has a reefer body. Is the refrigeration unit part of the purchase?Eleven Salida carriers list fresh produce in FMCSA’s carrier census, and we take the truck with its reefer body. Send photos of the unit and its hour reading with the rest.
- The title for my Salida rig is lost somewhere in the shop. Who issues a Salida owner a replacement copy?California’s title agency issues duplicates to the owner of record for Salida trucks, and that duplicate is what we collect with the keys. Start the request before you contact us so it is ready at pickup.
