Pits around the mission
Stone and gravel plants a few miles from the mission town
A R Wilson Quarry, a crushed-stone operation listed by the Mine Safety and Health Administration, lies about 6.5 miles north-west of San Juan Bautista. If your dump truck or end-dump tractor spends its days loading there, it can stay on that side of town when we come for it; give us the gate and a name to call before the visit.
East of town, the Mine Safety and Health Administration records PLANT 25, a sand and gravel operation 7.3 miles out, and Southside Sand And Gravel at 11.8 miles. Natividad Plant, another crushed-stone quarry the Mine Safety and Health Administration lists, is 7.7 miles to the south-west. Whichever pit your truck works from, photos of the bed, the hoist and the cab, plus the VIN, are the first things to send us.
Farther toward the coast, Marina Landfill shows up in Mine Safety and Health Administration records as an industrial-mineral site 18.6 miles south-west. A truck parked at a site like that can be collected where it sits, provided someone can let us through the entrance.
Rail to the north and west
Gilroy Yard and Watsonville Yard on either side of the valley
Two rail yards bracket the town on the North American Rail Network kept by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics: Gilroy Yard roughly 11.1 miles north and Watsonville Yard about 11.4 miles west. Drivers who shuttle loads to either one may leave a tractor near the yard rather than at home, and that spot works fine for a pickup.
Tell us which of the two yards your truck runs to and where it is usually parked. With a street address or a lot description, we can plan the collection around the yard’s hours instead of yours.
San Juan Bautista’s haulers keep their wheels on California roads
Of the 58 active operators FMCSA’s carrier census places in San Juan Bautista, a mere 3 hold interstate authority while 55 stay intrastate. On that FMCSA census, 23 of the 58 operate as private fleets, hauling their own goods rather than freight for hire. For a seller, that usually means the truck is somewhere inside the state and reachable from here.
By cargo type, the same federal census lists 21 carriers hauling general freight, 11 carrying fresh produce, 8 moving machinery and large objects, and 4 handling farm supplies. A reefer tractor from the produce side and a lowboy rig from the machinery side are both trucks we buy; tell us the body or trailer setup when you write in.
Fleet sizes stay small in town under that carrier census: the three biggest run 13, 10 and 8 power units. If you are selling one truck out of a handful, send the VIN and registration for that unit alone, and we handle it on its own.
What roadside checks show about the town’s tractors
FMCSA’s carrier census gives a median of 14,933 miles a truck per year across the 10 local operators that list mileage. Among their drivers, the federal carrier census places 71 within a hundred-mile radius of base and 52 beyond it. Have the current odometer reading on hand when you contact us; it is one of the first figures we ask for.
FMCSA roadside inspection records cover 47 trucks from San Juan Bautista carriers examined between August 2024 and August 2026, with a median model year of 2016. Those same inspection records show just over half, 51 percent, were ten or more model years old. Whatever year yours is, the title, registration and any service records you kept give us the clearest picture of it.
Job sites and ranches
Building crews and livestock country around San Juan Bautista
Of the 447 jobs located in San Juan Bautista in 2023, the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts put 116 in construction, about 26 percent. A dozen construction businesses operate here by the count in County Business Patterns, 12 in all. Contractors retiring a flatbed, a dump truck or a crew-hauling rig can send us the unit number and photos, and we come to the job yard.
Across San Benito County, USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture records 539 farms, with cattle, horses and sheep as the leading livestock. Ranch owners with a stock hauler or a feed truck parked out on the property do not need to move it toward town; give us directions to the gate and a phone number, and we collect it from the ranch.
Hollister DMV
Replacing a missing title seven miles east in Hollister
For San Juan Bautista sellers, a California title goes through the State of California Department of Motor Vehicles and its DMV field offices. The DMV’s nearest office to San Juan Bautista is the Hollister field office at 80 N Sally Street, Hollister, 95023, about 7.6 miles from town. If your title is lost or still lists a lienholder, that office is where to start the replacement.
Bring your registration card and photo identification to Hollister, and ask for a duplicate or a lien release as needed. Once the paper is in hand, send us a photo of the front and back so the sale can go ahead without a second trip.
Where the Sacramento emission mandates sit for a San Juan Bautista owner
San Juan Bautista owners should know the Advanced Clean Trucks Regulation is contested, its status still unsettled. For the 2036 100 Percent Medium- and Heavy-Duty Zero-Emission Vehicle Sales Requirements, a federal court record cited alongside California Air Resources Board material shows enforcement is paused.
Separately, the Advanced Clean Fleets Regulation - Drayage Fleet Requirements and High Priority and Federal Fleets Requirements has been repealed, according to the Air Resources Board. None of these rules stops you from selling a diesel truck to us today; just bring the title and registration.
