Rail and docks
Mulford Yard and the Oakland waterfront
Mulford Yard, a rail yard just 1.7 miles up the line toward Oakland, is mapped on the North American Rail Network run by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics. A tractor that shuttles boxes off that yard is often parked close to it between moves, so give us the street address of the lot and the name of whoever holds the gate key.
Westward, 4.9 miles out, sits the Port of Oakland on the Bureau of Transportation Statistics list of ports. A day cab parked in a waterfront yard can stay in that yard; tell us which one and we plan the collection there.
Further up toward the estuary, East Oakland Yard is 7.8 miles north-west, again on the North American Rail Network. Owners who stage equipment near that yard should note the gate hours and any lot rules, since those shape when a pickup can happen.
Container work
Ro-ro berths and ramps at Howard and Matson
According to the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, the Charles P. Howard Terminal at the Port of Oakland is 9.3 miles north-west and works as both a roll-on/roll-off terminal and a rail intermodal ramp. Tractors that pulled chassis between those ramps and San Leandro warehouses are the kind we purchase; have the VIN, the registration card and a few photos of the cab and fifth wheel ready.
Matson Terminal, 9.7 miles away per the same Bureau of Transportation Statistics listing, carries both a roll-on/roll-off berth and an intermodal ramp. If your truck holds a port access credential or a terminal sticker, mention it when you contact us, and keep any drayage paperwork with the title.
FMCSA’s carrier census shows 119 carriers based in San Leandro hauling intermodal containers. Whether yours is one of them or a single-truck operator leased to one, the title in your name and a current registration are what settle the sale.
General freight, reefers and movers in San Leandro
San Leandro counts 1,295 active carriers in FMCSA’s carrier census, and 493 of them list general freight. A box truck or tractor from that kind of work can be sold from the driveway or the shop lot; send photos of all four sides plus the dash.
Household goods show up for 65 carriers and refrigerated food for 54, again by FMCSA’s count of registered carriers. For a reefer unit, photograph the trailer plate and the unit’s hour meter and keep its service log with the truck’s papers.
Of those carriers, the FMCSA census marks 1,120 as intrastate, 173 as interstate and 205 as private fleets. An intrastate operator should have the California registration and any motor carrier permit paperwork together before we collect.
New registrations keep coming: FMCSA’s carrier census lists 54 carriers added in 2025 and 36 in 2024. If you started up recently and are now selling, a short ownership history is fine; the title and a lien release, if there was a loan, are what matter.
A 2018 median at East Bay roadside checks
Across 977 trucks inspected between August 2024 and August 2026, FMCSA roadside inspection records put the median model year at 2018. Tell us the exact year, make and model of yours, read from the door jamb or title, so we work from the same details.
Those FMCSA roadside inspection records also show 30.7 percent of the inspected trucks were ten or more model years old. Whatever the year on yours, a recent inspection report is useful to have in the folder with the title.
On driver range, FMCSA’s carrier census tallies 1,638 drivers working within 100 miles and 1,231 going beyond. A truck on long runs may be parked out of town when you decide to sell; tell us where it is, and we arrange collection at that location.
Manufacturing, building and wholesale
The Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts for 2023 record 50,122 jobs in San Leandro, with 5,445 in manufacturing and 3,414 in wholesale trade. For a straight truck or tractor kept at a plant, say whether we collect from a dock or a yard.
Construction accounts for 4,802 of those jobs under the LEHD counts, and County Business Patterns from the Census Bureau lists 270 construction establishments. Dump trucks and flatbeds from job sites can be collected where they are parked; let us know if a site has restricted access.
Transportation and warehousing holds 2,580 jobs per the Census Bureau’s LEHD counts, beside 12 warehousing establishments in County Business Patterns. If your truck is parked at a warehouse lot, a contact on site who can point us to it is all we need.
Bridges and the county around town
The National Bridge Inventory from the Federal Highway Administration lists 35 bridges in San Leandro, none of them load-posted and none under 14 feet. Tell us the truck’s address and mention any narrow alley or locked gate at the spot.
Out in Alameda County, USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture counts 397 farms, with cattle, honey and equine leading. A ranch truck or stock hauler parked out on a county property can be collected there; send the address and directions to where it sits.
North-west of town, 5.3 miles off, Tidewater Oakland Marine Aggregate appears in Mine Safety and Health Administration records as a sand and gravel operation. Dump trucks that run aggregate from there are welcome; keep the title and registration with the truck.
