Clayton rock
Dump work for the two Clayton pits
The Mine Safety and Health Administration lists Clayton Aggregates, a crushed-stone quarry 7.3 miles east of Saranap, and the Clayton Plant a little further along at 7.9 miles. Dump trucks, end dumps and transfer rigs that haul rock from those two pits are the kind of equipment we collect from driveways and yards around here. If yours spent its shifts on the Clayton side, tell us which plant it loaded at and what body it carries.
A tractor or dump body that worked the quarries is often parked at home in Saranap between jobs rather than on the plant floor. Give us the street address, say whether it sits on a slope or a level pad, and send photos of the bed, the hoist and the cab so we can plan the pickup before we arrive.
Have the California title and current registration in the cab or on hand. If the scale tickets or service logs from those Clayton loads are still in a folder somewhere, include them; they tell us what the truck did without any guesswork on either side.
Fuel tractors loading at Martinez
North of town, the Energy Information Administration records the Martinez Terminal petroleum product terminal 8.4 miles away and a second Martinez terminal at 9.7 miles. Tank-trailer tractors that load fuel at those racks and deliver across the county are trucks we buy outright.
When a fuel tractor is ready to go, tell us whether you are selling the tractor alone or the tanker as well, and give us its VIN. Gather any inspection reports from terminal loading checks and keep them with the title and registration; they record where the tractor hauled.
If the rig is still parked inside a terminal lot near Martinez, you do not have to move it to Saranap. Give us the gate location and a name who can let a driver in, and the collection happens where the truck already sits.
Rail and fuel depots
Ozol Yard and the north-west corridor
Saranap’s nearest rail yard, Ozol Yard, lies 10.2 miles north-west on the North American Rail Network that the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics maintain. Beside it, at 10.7 miles, the Bureau of Transportation Statistics lists the Ozol Defense Fuel Support Point, a military installation.
Trucks that shuttle freight off that yard or work the depot nearby can be collected out there or back in Saranap, whichever suits you. Share the yard or parking address, the VIN and a clear set of photos of the cab, frame and tires, and say who holds the keys.
Bay aggregates
Tidewater marine sand toward the bay
South-west of town by 11.7 miles, Tidewater Oakland Marine Aggregate is a sand and gravel operation on the Mine Safety and Health Administration’s list. Gravel trailers and dump trucks that run between that marine yard and Contra Costa job sites fall within the work we take on.
If your truck hauls bay sand rather than Clayton stone, mention it when you reach us, along with the body type and axle setup. Have the title in your name and a current registration card ready wherever the truck is parked.
Builders and county farms
Of the 963 jobs the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts placed in Saranap for 2023, construction held 163, a 16.9 percent share. Contractors with a flatbed, a stake-bed or a small dump truck that is no longer needed on their sites can sell it straight from the job yard or the home driveway.
Contra Costa County had 405 farms in USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture, with cattle, flower seeds and bulbs, corms, rhizomes and tubers leading the list. Livestock haulers and farm trucks from those operations can be picked up at the ranch gate; let us know the road access and whether a trailer stays with the truck.
Three CARB rulings
Where the CARB truck rules stand for a Saranap owner
California’s Air Resources Board lists its Advanced Clean Fleets drayage, high-priority and federal fleet requirements as repealed. The Advanced Clean Trucks Regulation is shown as contested, after amendments the board approved.
For the 2036 rule requiring all medium- and heavy-duty sales to be zero-emission, a federal court ruling from the Eastern District of California shows enforcement on pause. Whichever way these rules move, a Saranap owner can sell a diesel truck to us with the title, registration and VIN in hand.
The questions we get asked in Saranap
- Our end dump sits at Clayton Aggregates off the Saranap side. Will a driver fetch it from the quarry?Clayton Aggregates is 7.3 miles east of Saranap on the Mine Safety and Health Administration’s list, and we pick up at the quarry if the operator lets a driver on site. Give us the gate contact and where the truck is parked.
- The tanker tractor is parked at a Martinez terminal. Must the tanker tractor be moved back to my Saranap street before pickup? The Energy Information Administration places the Martinez Terminal 8.4 miles north of Saranap, so collecting there is close at hand. Leave the truck where it is and tell us who can open the lot.
