Forty-two carriers in a foothill town
General freight leads the cargo lines here, ticked by 10 of the 42 active Sierra Madre carriers in FMCSA’s carrier census. A box truck or tractor that hauled general freight from a home driveway on the hillside can be collected right where it sits; have the title and the current registration together before you get in touch.
Four Sierra Madre carriers haul motor vehicles and two more are registered for driveaway and towaway work, according to the same federal census. For a car hauler or tow truck, send photos of the deck, the ramps or the boom along with the cab, so the body is clear before collection is booked.
Household goods appear on the registrations of two local carriers in FMCSA’s records. Moving vans and straight trucks from that trade are trucks we collect; tell us the box length and whether a liftgate is fitted when you first call.
Intrastate operators and one-truck outfits
Of the 42 carriers in FMCSA’s carrier census, 36 operate intrastate only, 6 cross state lines, and 6 are private fleets moving their own goods. An intrastate truck that never left California still sells the same way: title, registration and the VIN are what we ask for first.
The biggest operations in town are small, with the census showing the top fleet at 4 power units and 5 drivers, another at 4 power units and 1 driver, and a third at 3 power units with 4 drivers. If you are selling one truck out of a two- or three-truck yard, tell us which unit it is and where it is parked so the right vehicle is the one we load.
Eight Sierra Madre carriers file annual mileage with FMCSA, and their median truck covers 22,209 miles a year on that census. Have the odometer reading ready, and any service records you kept, since those two together tell us most of what we need about a truck’s working life.
Short runs and long ones from the same address
FMCSA’s census counts 11 drivers with Sierra Madre carriers working within 100 miles of base and 45 working beyond that radius. A long-haul unit may be parked somewhere other than town when you decide to sell; give us the address where it actually stands, not the address on the registration.
New registrations have been steady but few, with the carrier census recording 3 new Sierra Madre carriers in 2025 and 2 in 2024. If you started up recently and are already selling a truck, a title still held by a lender is something to mention on the first call so the lien release can be planned.
Pits and a quarry south-east of town
The Mine Safety and Health Administration lists the Peck Road Gravel Pit 4.8 miles south-east of Sierra Madre and the Irwindale Plant, another sand and gravel operation, 5.3 miles out in the same direction. Dump trucks and transfer rigs that worked those pits can be picked up at the yard where they stand; tell us whose gate it is and who can open it.
Seven point two miles east, Azusa Rock appears in Mine Safety and Health Administration records as a crushed-stone quarry. If your end dump or belly dump hauled aggregate out of the quarry, send photos of the bed and the tailgate as well as the tractor, and say which trailer, if any, goes with it.
Yards, ramps and a terminal to the south-west
The North American Rail Network, kept by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, places Aurant Yard 9.4 miles south-west of town and the Metrolink Shops Yard 11.6 miles in that direction. A truck that served either yard can be collected near it, so there is no need to bring it back up into the foothills first.
Two intermodal ramps sit within 13 miles, with the Bureau of Transportation Statistics listing Lamar Street (LATC) in Los Angeles 12.5 miles south-west and the City of Industry ramp 12.9 miles south-east. Day cabs that pulled containers off those ramps are trucks we purchase; the VIN and a photo of the door sticker are the best start.
On Energy Information Administration figures, the Montebello petroleum product terminal is 12 miles south-west of Sierra Madre. If your tanker loaded there, keep any tank inspection paperwork with the title and send it along with the photos.
Wholesale routes, contractors and nursery farms
Census Bureau LEHD job counts put 2,985 jobs in Sierra Madre in 2023, with 124 in wholesale trade (4.2 percent) and 86 in construction (2.9 percent). A stake bed or flatbed from a wholesale route, or a work truck from a building job, is welcome; list the body type and anything bolted on, such as a rack or toolboxes.
Thirty construction firms show up for Sierra Madre in the Census Bureau’s County Business Patterns. Contractors selling a dump truck or a crew truck can tell us which job site it is parked on, and we arrange collection there with whoever runs the site.
Potted flowering plants, mushrooms and horses head the list for the 766 Los Angeles County farms in USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture. A nursery box truck or a horse-hauling rig from that county trade can be sold with its title and registration; a photo of the body interior helps.
Load-posted bridges and California’s truck regulations
Of the 9 bridges the National Bridge Inventory records in Sierra Madre, 5 are load-posted and none has clearance under 14 feet. When you describe where the truck is parked, mention the street it is on, so the collection route can be planned around the posted crossings.
California Air Resources Board and federal court records list the Advanced Clean Trucks Regulation as contested, enforcement of the 2036 zero-emission sales requirement as paused, and the Advanced Clean Fleets drayage and high-priority fleet requirements as repealed. None of these changes how a sale works with us; the title, registration and VIN are still what we need.
The questions we get asked in Sierra Madre
- My dump truck is parked at a gravel yard near Irwindale, not in Sierra Madre. Will you collect it from that gravel yard?Irwindale Plant sits 5.3 miles south-east of Sierra Madre on Mine Safety and Health Administration records, and we collect at the yard. Name the yard operator and a phone number for the gate, and the pickup is set up with them.
- I run one truck intrastate out of my house. Will you deal with a one-truck owner from Sierra Madre?Sierra Madre’s largest fleets top out at 4 power units in FMCSA’s carrier census, so a single-truck owner is a typical seller here. Send the VIN and a photo of the title to start.
- My street has a load-posted bridge on it. Can you still collect?Five of the 9 bridges in Sierra Madre are load-posted in the National Bridge Inventory, and none is under 14 feet. Give us the address and the nearest cross street so the route is planned around them.
