A dump truck or end-dump tractor that has hauled aggregate from that pit can be collected at the pit lot, a contractor’s yard or your driveway. Tell us which, and who holds the gate key if it is fenced.
HJ HOVE, another sand and gravel operation, sits 10.8 miles south-east of town on the Mine Safety and Health Administration’s records. If your truck is parked out there, send photos of the cab, the bed or trailer and the plate, plus the VIN; we check those against the title before collection is booked.
Twenty fleets, nearly all intrastate
Sky Valley has 20 active carriers in FMCSA’s carrier census, and 19 of them are registered for intrastate work against a single interstate operation. For a seller here that usually means a California-plated truck with California registration, so have the current registration card with the title when you reach out.
Of those 20, eleven list general freight as cargo in FMCSA’s carrier census, with one each hauling beverages, refrigerated food and garbage. A box truck, reefer unit or refuse truck from one of those single outfits is something we buy as readily as a freight tractor; name the body type when you contact us so the right questions come back.
Three of the local operations are private fleets according to FMCSA’s carrier census, hauling their own goods rather than for hire. If your truck belongs to a business, have the name on the title match the business selling it, or bring the paperwork that shows who can sign for the company.
In FMCSA’s carrier census the biggest Sky Valley outfit lists 5 power units and 10 drivers, the next 4 units with 1 driver, and a third 3 units with 3 drivers. Selling one tractor out of a fleet that size is common, and so is selling two or three together; list each VIN and say where each one is parked.
Drivers based here split between short and long work: FMCSA’s carrier census counts 30 operating within 100 miles of home and 18 going farther. A truck that is out on a longer route when you decide to sell can be picked up once it is back in the valley, or wherever it ends its trip, if you give us the address.
Construction work around the valley
The Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts (LODES) put 293 jobs in Sky Valley for 2023, and 88 of them, about 30 percent, are in construction. Flatbeds, water trucks and dump bodies that support building sites are all trucks we purchase from owners here.
If your truck has been parked on a job site after the work wrapped, give us the site address and a contact on the ground who can confirm it is there on the collection date.
Duplicates from the Palm Desert field office
Titles here come from the State of California Department of Motor Vehicles, and its closest DMV field office to Sky Valley is the Palm Desert office at 74-740 Technology Drive, Palm Desert, 92211, about 7.5 miles away. If the title is missing, that office is where you apply for a duplicate before the sale.
Bring your registration card and photo ID to the Palm Desert office, and check that the name on the duplicate matches the person or business selling. Once the State of California Department of Motor Vehicles issues the replacement, send us a photo of the front so the sale can move ahead.
Clean truck rules and their status
Sky Valley sellers should know a federal court record shows the California Air Resources Board’s 2036 100 Percent Medium- and Heavy-Duty Zero-Emission Vehicle Sales Requirements with enforcement paused.
Separately, the Advanced Clean Fleets Regulation - Drayage Fleet Requirements and High Priority and Federal Fleets Requirements has been repealed. You can sell a diesel truck parked anywhere in the valley without first meeting those fleet rules; have the title, registration and any emissions paperwork ready.
Out from Sky Valley, Riverside County holds 2,424 farms in USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture, with milk, mushrooms and cotton at the top of its sales list. Milk tankers, feed trucks and farm flatbeds working those operations are trucks we collect from the farm itself.
If a farm truck sits at a dairy or field edge, tell us the road and the nearest cross street, and have the title in the farm owner’s name or a letter from the owner allowing the sale.
