Aggregate haulers working out of the Marin rock pit
Crushed stone comes out of the San Rafael Rock Quarry, which the Mine Safety and Health Administration places 7.6 miles east of Sleepy Hollow. A dump truck or end-dump tractor that has hauled aggregate out of that pit is a truck we buy, and it can stay parked in the yard or driveway where it sits between jobs.
Before we talk, find the title and current registration and take photos of the bed, the hoist, the cab and the frame rails. If you kept the quarry’s load tickets or the scale records, put them with the truck; they tell us what it hauled without a long phone call.
Chevron’s two rail yards across the bay
Two yards appear in the North American Rail Network, kept by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics: WEST CHEVRON YARD at 11.8 miles east and CHEVRON YARD at 12.6 miles east of town. Tractors that shuttle freight to and from rail sidings like these are usually day cabs, and we collect them from wherever they are kept, on either side of the bridge.
If the tractor is inside a gated rail or plant property, give us the name of the person who can let a driver in and the hours the gate is staffed. With the VIN, the odometer reading and a clear set of cab and chassis photos, we can start on the truck before anyone visits.
Fuel racks at Richmond and the tank trucks that load there
According to the Energy Information Administration, RICHMOND CA TERMINAL lies 12.3 miles south-east of Sleepy Hollow and a second petroleum product terminal, listed as RICHMOND, lies 13.3 miles out in the same direction. Tank trucks and the tractors that pull fuel trailers from those racks are part of what we purchase.
Tell us whether the tank or trailer goes with the tractor, and bring out any hazmat inspection paperwork and service records you still have. Those papers travel with the truck, so a seller who has them in one folder saves both of us a round of questions.
Port trucks from Richmond to San Francisco
The Bureau of Transportation Statistics counts the port at Richmond, CA 13.1 miles east, the Point Potrero Marine Terminal, a roll-on/roll-off site, 14 miles south-east, and the San Francisco port 18 miles south-east. Container chassis tractors and car-carrier rigs that have worked those berths are trucks we will look at.
You do not have to drive a port tractor back over to Marin to sell it. Leave it in the lot by the water if that is where it lives, send the address, and tell us who holds the keys there.
Ranch trucks and construction work in Marin
USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture records 255 farms in Marin County, with milk, cattle and equine as the leading products. Milk haulers, livestock trucks and horse-trailer tractors from those ranches can be sold where they are kept, out on the property.
Construction establishments in the area number 80 in the Census Bureau’s County Business Patterns. Flatbeds, mixers and service bodies from those builders are on our list; photograph any mounted equipment, and say whether it is fixed to the chassis or comes off.
For the place itself, the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts show 397 jobs located in Sleepy Hollow in 2023. Many trucks owned here are kept at home rather than in a fleet yard, so a driveway or side street is a fine place for us to collect from.
Replacing a title and where the clean-truck rules stand
For a Sleepy Hollow owner whose title has gone missing, the duplicate comes from the state’s title agency. Start that request before you contact us if you can, and keep the registration card and your ID ready, since the name on the title has to match the person signing.
Of the state’s clean-truck rules, the Advanced Clean Trucks Regulation is contested, enforcement of the 2036 zero-emission sales requirement for medium- and heavy-duty vehicles is paused, and the drayage and high-priority fleet requirements of the Advanced Clean Fleets Regulation have been repealed. Whatever a rule’s status, read the engine year off the emissions label under the hood and include it with your photos and VIN.
The questions we get asked in Sleepy Hollow
- My dump truck is still parked near the San Rafael Rock Quarry, so does it have to come home to Sleepy Hollow first? That quarry sits 7.6 miles east of Sleepy Hollow on the Mine Safety and Health Administration’s list, and we collect from there or wherever else the truck is parked. Name the quarry-side lot and whoever unlocks it on the day of collection.
- I hauled from the Richmond fuel terminals but the tractor is now at my house in Sleepy Hollow; can you collect it from a residential street?Your house is where we would pick it up; the Energy Information Administration places the Richmond terminals 12.3 and 13.3 miles away, but the truck does not need to go back. Send photos, the VIN and the odometer reading.
- The title to my Marin ranch truck has disappeared; where does a replacement come from?Marin County ranch titles, like every other title in California, are reissued by the state’s title agency. Ask for the duplicate there, and tell us it is on the way so we can line up everything else.
