Sell your semi truck for cash in South Lake Tahoe the easy and convenient way

South Lake Tahoe sits on the El Dorado County shore of the lake, home to 21,269 people by the Census Bureau’s count, and the trucks based here haul lumber, passengers, machinery and general freight around the basin.

Selling a truck in South Lake Tahoe? Tell us about it and we'll take it from there.

Ninety carriers on the south shore

Of the 90 active carriers FMCSA’s census places on the south shore, 56 are private fleets hauling for a lodge, a builder or a utility that owns the load. If your truck has worked for a lodge, a contractor or a utility on the south shore, tell us what it carried and for whom, and have the title in the business name ready alongside the registration card.

Of those 90, the federal census counts 51 as interstate operations and 39 as intrastate only. A tractor that crossed into Nevada on a regular route will carry different paperwork from one that never left El Dorado County, so send whichever operating authority and registration papers apply to yours.

New registrations appear in FMCSA’s records too: 7 carriers started up here in 2025 and 4 in 2024. If you are one of those newer outfits and are now selling a unit you bought recently, the purchase documents and the current title are the two things we will ask about first.

Timber and logs

Log trucks and lumber haulers around the lake

Thirteen local carriers list logs, poles, beams and lumber among their cargo in the FMCSA census, second only to the 19 hauling general freight. If yours is a log truck or a flatbed that hauled timber out of the basin, photograph the bunks, the stakes and the trailer hookup along with the cab and the VIN plate.

A truck that has been working timber is often parked at a landing, a yard or a job site rather than in town. Give us the address or the nearest road, and say whether a tow rig can reach it in winter, and we will plan the collection around where it actually sits.

People and equipment

Passenger vehicles and heavy machinery haulers

In the FMCSA carrier census, eleven operators based here carry passengers and ten move machinery and large objects. Shuttle buses, lowboys and equipment haulers all fit what we buy, so list the seating capacity or the trailer type when you first get in touch.

For a bus or shuttle, keep any inspection reports and service logs together with the title. For a lowboy tractor, note the axle setup and the trailer, if it goes with the sale, so both can be collected in one trip.

Drivers who stay close to the basin

Carrier filings in the FMCSA census show 262 drivers working within 100 miles of their base here and 96 going farther than that. Most local trucks, in other words, are kept near home, which usually means the one you are selling is somewhere in or near South Lake Tahoe when we come for it.

Among the 31 local carriers that report mileage to FMCSA, the median truck covered 7,350 miles in a year. Write down the odometer reading when you photograph the dash, and send it with the VIN so the description matches the truck we arrive to pick up.

The three biggest fleets registered here run 45, 45 and 43 power units according to the federal carrier census. If you are clearing out several units at once, send us a list with each VIN and where each one is parked, and we will work through them together.

Bridges, boat ramps and a low crossing

Six bridges stand inside South Lake Tahoe on the National Bridge Inventory, and not one carries a posted weight limit. The National Bridge Inventory puts one of them under 14 feet: structure 25C0062, where Harrison Avenue crosses the boat ramp, with 11 ft 11 in of clearance.

If your truck is parked near the Harrison Avenue boat ramp, tell us which side of that crossing it is on. A tall cab or a rollback carrying it may need to come in by another street, and knowing that up front keeps the pickup simple.

Contractor yards, cattle and Christmas tree lots

LEHD job counts from the Census Bureau put 9,907 jobs in South Lake Tahoe in 2023, with 258 in construction, 118 in wholesale trade, 117 in transportation and warehousing and 56 in manufacturing. County Business Patterns counts 160 construction establishments, so dump trucks, flatbeds and service bodies from contractor yards are a familiar sight here.

Across El Dorado County, USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture lists 1,204 farms, led by cattle and cut Christmas trees. A stake bed, a cattle hauler or a flatbed used for tree harvests can be sold from the ranch or tree lot where it is kept; send a photo of the registration and the title, and tell us whether the title is in a farm or personal name.

A lost California title is replaced by the state’s title agency, and only the registered owner can ask for the copy. Start that request before we collect, and tell us it is under way so the paperwork can catch up with the truck.

The questions we get asked in South Lake Tahoe

  • Can you collect a log truck left at a timber landing beyond the Tahoe city limits?Thirteen South Lake Tahoe carriers haul logs and lumber in FMCSA’s census, and their trucks are often parked out of town. Send us the location and how a tow truck reaches it, and we come to the truck there.

  • Do you buy shuttle buses and passenger vans from South Lake Tahoe?Eleven local carriers carry passengers in the federal carrier census, and their buses are among the vehicles we purchase. Send the VIN, the seating capacity, the title and any inspection records you have.
  • Can a lodge or contractor here sell just one truck from its own private fleet?FMCSA’s census counts 56 private fleets among South Lake Tahoe’s 90 carriers, and selling one truck out of such a fleet is routine for us. Have the title in the business name and the signer’s authority ready.
