East across the bay
Fuel terminals and Richmond’s waterfront
The Energy Information Administration lists two petroleum product terminals east of Strawberry, RICHMOND CA TERMINAL at 7.1 miles and a second Richmond terminal at 7.7 miles. A tractor that has pulled fuel tankers between those gates and Marin stations can be sold from wherever it is parked tonight, whether that is a Richmond lot or a driveway on the peninsula. Give us the street address and say whether a tow rig can get alongside it.
Point Potrero Marine Terminal, a roll-on/roll-off berth at the Port of Richmond, is 7.9 miles east by the Bureau of Transportation Statistics’ reckoning, and that agency also lists Richmond as a port at 9.1 miles. Trucks that shuttle vehicles or freight off those docks often stay parked near the water between jobs. Send photos of the cab, frame, fifth wheel and tires so what we see lines up with your description of the truck.
Tracks east of the bay
Trucks working beside the Richmond rail lines
WEST CHEVRON YARD lies 7.2 miles east of Strawberry on the North American Rail Network kept by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, with RICHMOND YARD at 7.9 miles in the same direction. If your day cab or yard tractor has worked transload moves beside those tracks, mention the yard when you first contact us.
For a rail-served truck, start with the VIN and the odometer reading, then the registration card. Service records from the shop that kept it on the road around the yards are welcome, though a seller without them can still describe the work and we will ask what we need.
Peninsula stone
Dump trucks from the San Rafael quarry
San Rafael Rock Quarry, a crushed-stone operation on the Mine Safety and Health Administration’s list, is 7.1 miles north-east of Strawberry. Tandem dumps and transfer trucks that haul stone off that site into Marin job sites are the kind of equipment we buy outright.
Construction holds 112 of the 2,322 jobs counted in Strawberry for 2023, a 4.8 percent slice in the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts. If your dump truck has a body or hoist that was added after the chassis was built, tell us the body maker and the year it went on, and photograph the bed raised as well as lowered.
West Marin ranches
Milk tankers and stock trailers from the county ranches
USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture counts 255 farms in Marin County, with milk, cattle and equine listed as the top products. Milk tankers, livestock haulers and horse rigs that run the county’s ranch roads can be collected at the farm gate, so there is no need to bring one down to the peninsula.
For a ranch truck, have the title in the name that appears on the registration, and note any livestock body or tank fitted to the chassis. A farm that has registered the truck under a ranch or partnership name should tell us that early so the signatures match.
Warehouses and distribution
Box trucks and delivery work
Wholesale trade accounts for 78 jobs in Strawberry, or 3.4 percent of the local total, according to the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts for 2023. Box trucks and straight trucks that stock those businesses can be sold with the liftgate, reefer unit or shelving still fitted.
Across the bay, the San Francisco Port listed by the Bureau of Transportation Statistics is 8.6 miles south-east. A delivery truck kept on either side of the water can be picked up where it sits, and the photos we ask for are the same: each side of the box, the cab interior and the dash with the ignition on.
Sacramento regulators
Air board status and a Marin title
California’s Air Resources Board lists its Advanced Clean Fleets drayage and high priority fleet requirements as repealed, and the Advanced Clean Trucks Regulation as contested. For the 2036 rule requiring all medium- and heavy-duty sales to be zero-emission, enforcement stands paused under an Eastern District of California court order.
None of that changes what we need to buy a truck registered in Marin County: the California title, signed by every owner named on it, and the current registration. If the title has gone missing, the state’s title agency handles the duplicate, and you can tell us while that is under way.
The questions we get asked in Strawberry
- Will you collect a truck parked near the Richmond terminals rather than in Strawberry? The Richmond fuel terminals are 7.1 to 7.7 miles east of Strawberry on the Energy Information Administration’s list, and we collect from where the truck is, so give us that address.
- Do you take dump trucks that worked the San Rafael quarry?San Rafael Rock Quarry, 7.1 miles north-east according to the Mine Safety and Health Administration, ships crushed stone, and the dump trucks that haul it are among the trucks we purchase.
- Can a Marin County ranch sell its milk tanker or cattle truck?Marin County has 255 farms in USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture, led by milk and cattle, and we buy the tankers and stock trucks that serve them, collected at the ranch.
- Which documents does a Tiburon peninsula seller gather first?A truck kept on the Tiburon peninsula needs its California title signed by each owner listed, the current registration and, if you have them, service records; photos of the frame and tires help.
