The quarry north-east at San Rafael
Crushed stone comes out of San Rafael Rock Quarry, which the Mine Safety and Health Administration records 8.6 miles up and across the county, north-east of the valley’s homes and trails. A dump truck or end-dump tractor that has hauled stone out of that pit can be sold from wherever it now sits, in the valley or on the quarry side of the county. Give us the street address and say whether a gate or a yard attendant stands between us and the truck.
Construction holds 93 of the valley’s 1,948 jobs in 2023, a 4.8 percent slice in the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts for this corner of Marin. If your truck carried aggregate to Marin building sites, send photos of the bed, the hoist, the cab and the VIN plate, and keep the title and current California registration together so the paperwork is ready when we arrive.
Fuel across the bay
Tank work at the Richmond fuel gates
Two petroleum product terminals east of the valley appear in Energy Information Administration listings: RICHMOND CA TERMINAL at 8.9 miles and the RICHMOND terminal at 9.5 miles. Tractors that pulled tank trailers in and out of those gates are on our list of trucks we purchase. Tell us which terminal it served and pull together any inspection reports or service records you kept from those runs.
A tank tractor working the Richmond side may still be parked in the East Bay while its owner lives in Marin. That is fine; we collect from the truck’s location, not yours. Share the yard address, a contact who can let us in, and the name on the title, and handle the rest by phone from the valley.
Day cabs between the East Bay rail yards and the ro-ro docks
On the North American Rail Network, maintained by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, WEST CHEVRON YARD sits 9 miles east of town and RICHMOND YARD 9.6 miles east. A day cab that shuttled freight to and from those yards is the kind of tractor we buy, and we only need its VIN and odometer reading to begin.
The Bureau of Transportation Statistics also lists the Port of Richmond’s Point Potrero Marine Terminal, a roll-on/roll-off facility, at 9.6 miles east, and the Richmond port itself at 10.9 miles. If your truck has moved vehicles or cargo off the Point Potrero docks, mention it when you first get in touch so the follow-up questions fit how the truck actually worked.
The city waterfront
San Francisco Port to the south-east
San Francisco Port, which the Bureau of Transportation Statistics records as a port 8.7 miles south-east of Tamalpais-Homestead Valley, puts the city’s piers within reach of a Marin-based tractor. If your truck hauled off those piers, photograph the frame, the fifth wheel and the tires as well as the cab, so the pictures line up with your description.
A truck parked near the San Francisco waterfront does not need to cross the Golden Gate back to Marin before it is sold. Send us the exact location and any restrictions on access at the lot, and we will plan the collection around that spot.
Marin ranches
Dairy, cattle and horse operations in the county
USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture counts 255 farms in Marin County, with milk, cattle and equine at the top of its list of products. A truck that has run milk, livestock or hay for one of those operations can be collected from the ranch where it is kept.
If yours is kept on a ranch, tell us how to reach the yard, whether the ground is firm enough for a tow vehicle, and who on the property can hand over the keys, and have the title signed off by the owner named on it.
Clean-truck rules a Marin owner may be watching
According to the California Air Resources Board, its Advanced Clean Fleets requirements for drayage fleets and for high-priority and federal fleets have been repealed. A Marin owner who was weighing a sale against those fleet deadlines can set them aside when deciding.
A federal court record from the Eastern District of California shows enforcement paused on the state’s all-zero-emission sales requirement for medium- and heavy-duty trucks, while the Air Resources Board’s Advanced Clean Trucks Regulation remains contested. Neither status changes what we need from you: the title, the registration and clear photos of the truck.
The questions we get asked in Tamalpais-Homestead Valley
- Does a dump truck sitting at San Rafael Rock Quarry have to come home to the valley before you take it?San Rafael Rock Quarry is 8.6 miles north-east of the valley on the Mine Safety and Health Administration’s list, and we collect from there directly. Name the quarry gate contact and we set the collection up with that person.
- My tank tractor sits at a Richmond fuel terminal across the bay. Will you pick it up across the bay at the terminal? The Energy Information Administration places two Richmond petroleum product terminals 8.9 and 9.5 miles east of Tamalpais-Homestead Valley, and either one is a pickup point for us. Send the terminal name and a contact on site.
- I keep a livestock truck on a Marin ranch. Would you take a livestock hauler kept on a Marin County ranch?Marin County has 255 farms in USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture, led by milk, cattle and equine, and the trucks serving them are ones we purchase. Have the title and registration in the name of whoever is selling.
