Rock and gravel south of Templeton
The Mine Safety and Health Administration lists Rocky Canyon Plant, a crushed-stone quarry, 8.2 miles south-east of town, and Whale Rock Quarry 10.8 miles to the south-west. A dump truck or end-dump tractor that loads at either site may be parked at the quarry yard rather than in Templeton itself, so give us the site name and the gate it sits behind.
Santa Margarita Aggregates, a sand and gravel operation 12.5 miles south-east, and Bianchi Pit, 18.6 miles west, are also on the Mine Safety and Health Administration’s list for this corner of the county. If your truck is on site at one of those pits, ask the operator whether a visitor needs to sign in, and send us a photo of the plate and the VIN plate with your first message.
FMCSA’s carrier census counts 94 active carriers based in Templeton, and of those, 85 run intrastate only while 9 cross state lines. For an owner with a California-only truck, that means the registration and title are likely both Californian, which keeps the transfer simple; have the pink slip and current registration card together.
Thirty-seven of those Templeton carriers are private fleets hauling their own goods, according to the same federal census. A ranch, builder or supplier selling one of its own trucks should have the person named on the title available to sign, or a letter showing who can sign for the business.
Driver records filed with FMCSA show 199 drivers here working within 100 miles and 112 going beyond that. A truck on longer runs may be out of town when you reach us, so tell us where it will be parked on the day you want it collected.
Lowboys, car haulers and feed trucks
General freight is listed by 32 local carriers in the FMCSA carrier census, machinery and large objects by 15, motor vehicles by 8 and farm supplies by 6. A lowboy tractor, a car hauler and a flatbed can all come from that mix; tell us the trailer type the tractor pulled and whether the trailer is part of the sale.
Fifteen carriers moving large objects points to heavy-haul tractors and tag trailers in town. With a rig like that, include the axle configuration and a photo of the fifth wheel or pintle in what you send, alongside shots of the cab and frame.
How new the Templeton trucks run
Templeton carriers had 79 trucks stopped for checks from September 2024 to August 2026, and the middle model year among them was 2020, per FMCSA roadside inspection records. The same inspection records put 13.9 percent of those trucks at ten or more model years old.
Twenty carriers here report mileage to FMCSA, and their median truck covers 10,603 miles a year. If you keep a logbook or ELD export showing where your truck went, put it in the folder with the title; a short record of the routes it ran answers questions before we ask them.
FMCSA’s carrier census also lists fleet sizes for local operators: one with 47 power units and 35 drivers, one with 42 power units and 24 drivers, and one with 29 power units and 33 drivers. A fleet selling several units at once should send a list of VINs and the yard address for each.
Vineyards, cattle and building work
Agriculture, forestry, fishing and hunting account for 507 of the 4,759 jobs the Census Bureau’s LEHD counts placed in Templeton in 2023, a 10.7 percent share, with construction at 399. A farm truck or stake bed parked on a ranch road is fine where it is; send a pin or directions to the gate.
Propagative material, cattle and transplants lead the county’s farm output, and USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture tallies 2,184 farms across San Luis Obispo County. A cattle hauler or nursery stock truck working those farms should come with its brand inspection or livestock paperwork if you have it, plus the title.
Construction firms number 52 in the county under the Census Bureau’s County Business Patterns, and manufacturing gives Templeton 275 jobs on the LEHD figures. Builders selling a water truck or flatbed can send the equipment list along with the photos.
Two bases on the Templeton corridor
Camp Roberts lies 16 miles north of Templeton and NG ITC Camp San Luis Obisbo 15 miles south, as the Bureau of Transportation Statistics records them. A contractor whose truck is held inside either installation will need to arrange base access for pickup, so mention that when you first get in touch.
Between those two bases, Templeton’s position on the corridor means a truck can be collected from either direction. Share the closest cross street or the yard address and we will plan the route from there.
