Silica, crushed stone and gravel just outside town
Sierra Silica Resources, an industrial-mineral mine, is listed by the Mine Safety and Health Administration 2.9 miles south-east of Thermalito, with Pacific Heights Pit, a crushed-stone quarry, at 3 miles in the same direction. A tri-axle or end-dump that has hauled silica or stone out of either site may well be parked near the pit when you call; give us the yard address and the name of whoever holds the gate key.
North of town, the TRP Table Mountain Plant is a crushed-stone quarry that MSHA records put 6.3 miles away, and Morris Ravine Mine, a sand and gravel operation, lies 4.8 miles to the north-east. If your dump truck splits its loads between Table Mountain and Morris Ravine, have the title and current registration in the cab, plus a few photos of the bed, the hoist and the door sticker showing the VIN.
Farther out, the Hallwood Plant sand and gravel operation sits 21.8 miles south, according to the Mine Safety and Health Administration. A truck based down toward Hallwood does not need to be driven up to Thermalito first; send the location and we plan collection where it stands.
Two rail yards on the Thermalito side of the valley
Just 2.9 miles south-east of Thermalito, OROVILLE YARD appears on the North American Rail Network that the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics maintain. Day cabs that shuttle loads to and from that yard are trucks we buy; tell us the make, model year and VIN when you first get in touch.
Barber Yard, another rail yard on the North American Rail Network, is 18.6 miles north-west of Thermalito. If your tractor works between the two yards, list any trailers or attachments that go with it, so we know whether the sale is the tractor alone or the full rig.
Tankers loading fuel up the road at Chico
A drive of 17.7 miles north-west from Thermalito reaches CHICO, a petroleum product terminal on the Energy Information Administration’s list. Fuel tankers and tank-trailer tractors that load there are on our list; if yours has hauled product from Chico, keep its tank inspection paperwork with the title.
A tanker sitting at a fuel yard rather than at your home can be collected where it is. Tell us who controls the lot and when someone can let us in, and the pickup gets arranged around their hours.
Rice, cattle and corn haulers
Rice leads, then cattle and corn, across the 1,667 Butte County farms that USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture records around Thermalito. Grain trucks, bulk haulers and livestock trailers that serve those farms fit what we purchase, and many of them sit on the farm between harvests.
If your truck is parked on a rice field road or at a cattle ranch outside Thermalito, give us directions a stranger could follow and say whether the ground is passable in wet weather. A photo of the truck where it stands helps us choose the right equipment to reach it.
Title, registration and records
Thermalito held 491 jobs in 2023 on the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts (LODES). An owner selling one truck needs the California title in their own name, the current registration card and a photo ID.
A lost California title is replaced through the state’s Department of Motor Vehicles; start that before we collect, and tell us if a lender is still listed on it. Service records and the last inspection report are useful to send with photos, but a missing folder does not stop a sale.
Clean-truck rules a Thermalito owner may have heard about
The California Air Resources Board reports that its Advanced Clean Fleets drayage, high-priority and federal fleet requirements have been repealed. The Advanced Clean Trucks Regulation is listed as contested in CARB’s own amendment notice.
In the federal court for the Eastern District of California, enforcement of the zero-emission medium- and heavy-duty sales requirement is paused. Whichever way those rules go, they do not change what you need to sell a truck from Thermalito: a clean title, registration and the truck’s location.
The questions we get asked in Thermalito
- My end-dump sits at the Table Mountain stone plant north of Thermalito; can you collect it there? The TRP Table Mountain Plant sits 6.3 miles north of Thermalito on Mine Safety and Health Administration records, and we collect from quarry yards like it. Name the plant contact who can open up, and the collection is set with that person.
- Do you take farm trucks from Butte County rice operations?Butte County’s 1,667 farms in USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture lead with rice, and the trucks that haul it are ones we buy. Send the VIN, the title holder’s name and where on the farm the truck is parked.
- The pink slip for my Butte County dump truck is gone; which office reissues it?Thermalito owners replace a lost title through the California Department of Motor Vehicles. Start the duplicate request and contact us at the same time, and mention any lender still listed.
