Canyon carriers
Twenty-seven carriers in the foothills
Trabuco Canyon is home to 27 active motor carriers on FMCSA’s carrier census, with general freight named by 11 of those canyon outfits. If your box truck, day cab or straight truck has spent its time on general freight runs from the canyon, send us the VIN, the plate and a few photos of the cab and chassis to start.
Two of those canyon carriers haul garbage, refuse and trash, two carry passengers and one moves refrigerated food, according to the same federal census. A roll-off, a packer, a shuttle bus or a reefer unit from a Trabuco Canyon yard fits what we buy; tell us the body type and the make of any reefer unit or lift so we know what the truck carries.
FMCSA’s carrier census also records 23 intrastate carriers in the canyon against 4 interstate ones, and 4 listed as private operations. A truck that has only ever run intrastate here will usually be parked at a home yard or a job site in south Orange County when we come to collect it.
One sixteen-unit fleet and a run of owner-operators
The biggest Trabuco Canyon operation in FMCSA’s carrier census reports 16 power units and 26 drivers, while the next two each list 2 trucks and 2 drivers. Whether you are clearing out a single tractor or several units from a yard of sixteen, we can take one truck or a group in one arrangement.
For a canyon fleet selling more than one unit, put together a list with each truck’s VIN, model year and where it is parked. FMCSA’s carrier census shows 2 new carriers registered here in 2024 and 2 more in 2025, so a recently started outfit selling a truck should have the purchase paperwork and the current registration close at hand.
Pits over the ridge
Sand plants and quarries north-east of the canyon
The Mine Safety and Health Administration lists the Maitri Canyon Plant 8.2 miles north-east of Trabuco Canyon and Maitri Sand and Gravel 8.4 miles out on the same heading. Dump trucks, transfer trailers and water trucks that work those sand and gravel operations can be picked up at the pit gate or wherever they are parked after the shift; just tell us the access road and any site check-in we need.
Further along that north-east line, Eagle Valley, an industrial-mineral mine, sits 11.5 miles away and the 3M Corona Plant, a crushed-stone quarry, is 12.7 miles out, on the Mine Safety and Health Administration’s roster. Southward, the Orange County Operation, also an industrial-mineral mine, lies 11.4 miles from town according to the Mine Safety and Health Administration. If your truck has hauled aggregate or mineral loads to or from any of these, keep its weight tickets, scale records or service logs together with the title so the truck’s working life comes with it.
Railheads due north
Corona yards and Norco, north of town
Corona Yard is 14.1 miles north of Trabuco Canyon and West Corona Yard 14.4 miles, as the North American Rail Network from the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics records them. A day cab or yard tractor that shuttles loads to those Corona rail yards can be collected at the canyon or at the yard itself; let us know which.
Seventeen miles north, the Naval Weapons Station Seal Beach Detachment Norco appears in the Bureau of Transportation Statistics list of military installations. A truck that delivers onto a base may carry gate passes or site credentials; take any of those out of the cab before pickup and keep the title and registration with you.
A duplicate title from the field office fifteen miles off
Titles in this state come from the State of California Department of Motor Vehicles, and its DMV field office for the canyon is Santa Ana, at 1330 E First Street, Santa Ana, 92701, about 15.5 miles from Trabuco Canyon. If the title is missing, that Santa Ana field office is where a duplicate is requested, and having it in hand before we collect keeps the sale simple.
Bring the current registration card, a photo ID and any lien release to the Santa Ana field office if the truck was ever financed. When a lender still shows on the title, tell us at first contact and we will work out the payoff paperwork with you rather than leave it to the day of collection.
Construction jobs, horse farms and the trucks behind them
In Trabuco Canyon, the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts for 2023 place 70 of 416 local jobs, a 16.8 percent share, in construction. County Business Patterns from the Census Bureau records 3 construction establishments here, so a dump truck, flatbed or service body truck from a local contractor’s yard is the kind of vehicle we expect to hear about from canyon sellers.
Across the county, USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture counts 158 farms in Orange County, with equine operations, honey and cut flowers leading the list. Stake beds, flatbeds and hay or horse-feed haulers that serve those ranches qualify too; photos of the bed and the hitch along with the cab help us understand the truck before we talk.
Where the Air Resources Board rules sit for a canyon diesel
The California Air Resources Board’s clean truck standards for manufacturers are contested, and the state’s requirement that all medium- and heavy-duty sales be zero-emission by 2036 has its enforcement on hold under a federal court ruling. A canyon owner holding a diesel tractor can sell it to us with either rule in that state.
Separately, the board’s fleet rules for drayage operators and for high-priority and federal fleets have been repealed. For a Trabuco Canyon truck that ran port or rail drayage, keep any registration you made under that program with the title; it gives us the truck’s history in one place.
The questions we get asked in Trabuco Canyon
- My truck sits at a Maitri sand pit north-east of Trabuco Canyon; can you get it there? The Maitri Canyon Plant and Maitri Sand and Gravel both sit a little over eight miles north-east of the canyon on the Mine Safety and Health Administration list, and we collect from pit yards like those as readily as from a driveway. Give us the site address and any gate rules.
- If the pink slip for my canyon rig is gone, who issues a new one and how far away are they? The State of California Department of Motor Vehicles handles titles, and the Santa Ana field office at 1330 E First Street is roughly 15.5 miles from the canyon. Apply for the duplicate at that Santa Ana counter, then let us know the request is in.
- Do you buy refuse and passenger trucks from the canyon?FMCSA’s carrier census shows two Trabuco Canyon carriers hauling garbage and refuse and two carrying passengers, and packers, roll-offs and buses like theirs are trucks we purchase. A VIN and pictures of the packer body or bus interior get the conversation started.
- Can a small Trabuco Canyon fleet sell several trucks together?Three of the canyon’s carriers in the federal census run between 2 and 16 power units, and we can take a whole group at once. Put every unit’s VIN on one sheet beside its canyon or job-site location.
