Aggregate and salt east and south of town
The Robert E Hove Pit lies 4.8 miles east of town, according to the Mine Safety and Health Administration. A dump truck or end-dump tractor that has worked that pit is probably parked at a yard on the east side, so give us the street address and the name of whoever holds the gate key when you first get in touch.
Further out, Valley Salt is an industrial-mineral mine 20.8 miles east, and the Dillon Plant is a sand and gravel operation 24.9 miles south, both on the Mine Safety and Health Administration’s list. If your truck is still sitting at one of those sites, it can stay there; send photos of the cab, the bed and the VIN plate, and tell us whether a pickup needs site clearance.
Fifty-four carriers on the desert’s edge
FMCSA’s carrier census lists 54 active carriers based in Twentynine Palms, and 43 of them are intrastate only, against 11 that cross state lines. For a truck that has stayed inside California, have the California registration card and the title in the same name before we talk, since that pairing is the first thing we check.
Of those 54, ten are private fleets hauling their own goods, per the same FMCSA census. FMCSA shows the biggest local fleet with 31 power units and 14 drivers, and the next two with 5 and 3 power units. Selling several units from one yard at once is fine; list each VIN and tell us which ones share a lot.
New registrations stay small here: five carriers registered in 2024 and one in 2025, on FMCSA’s records. If you started hauling recently and are now stepping out, the title and registration papers you filed when you began are all we need to start.
Freight, household goods and vehicle hauling
General freight is the cargo most often declared here, by 15 carriers in FMCSA’s census, followed by motor vehicles at 11. Car haulers and rollbacks from that second group should come with the trailer or deck details, so tell us the deck type and whether the winch and ramps go with the truck.
Seven local carriers declare household goods and three declare driveaway or towaway work, according to FMCSA. Moving vans that have served households around the Combat Center can be listed with their box length and liftgate, plus any service records you kept.
The Bureau of Transportation Statistics places the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center Twentynine Palms 23.2 miles north-west of town. If you have been reassigned and the truck is staying behind, leave it parked with a contact who can show it, and sign the title from your new station.
Short hauls and long desert runs
Drivers working within 100 miles number 46, while 67 work beyond that radius, in FMCSA’s carrier census for Twentynine Palms. A long-haul tractor may be parked well away from home when you decide to sell, so tell us exactly where it sits today rather than where it is registered.
The National Bridge Inventory records eight bridges in the area, with none load-posted and none under 14 feet of clearance. A tall box truck or loaded lowboy can reach a pickup point in town without a detour, so a home driveway or a gravel lot both work for collection.
Desert contractors, dairies and nurseries
Of 3,241 jobs counted in Twentynine Palms in 2023 by the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts, 71 were in construction and 59 in transportation and warehousing. Contractor-owned trucks from that construction share often carry equipment racks or toolboxes; tell us what is bolted on and what you plan to keep.
Nineteen building contractors keep an establishment in this desert town, in the Census Bureau’s County Business Patterns. Across San Bernardino County, USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture counts 809 farms, led by milk, cattle and potted flowering plants, so feed trucks, livestock haulers and nursery box trucks from those operations are part of what we collect.
Desert rule check
Selling a Twentynine Palms truck with CARB rules in flux
A notice from the California Air Resources Board marks its Advanced Clean Trucks Regulation as contested and shows the drayage and high-priority fleet requirements of Advanced Clean Fleets as repealed. Add a federal court filing that pauses enforcement of the zero-emission sales requirement for medium- and heavy-duty vehicles, and none of those rules blocks a Twentynine Palms owner from selling today.
For a certificate that has been lost, apply to the state’s title agency for a replacement ahead of collection, so it is in the cab when we arrive in Twentynine Palms. Keep the registration card alongside it; the owner’s name has to read the same on both.
The questions we get asked in Twentynine Palms
- My truck hauled from the Dillon Plant and is still parked at the site. Must it come up to town first? The Dillon Plant sits 24.9 miles south of town on the Mine Safety and Health Administration’s list, and we collect from there. Give us the site contact so the pickup is arranged with them.
- I am leaving the Combat Center on new orders. Can I sell the truck after I move? The Bureau of Transportation Statistics puts the Combat Center 23.2 miles north-west of town, and a truck left nearby can be collected after you go. Leave the keys with someone local and sign the title wherever you are stationed.
- Is a household goods van from here something you buy?Seven Twentynine Palms carriers declare household goods in FMCSA’s census, and their vans are trucks we buy. Send the VIN, the box length and photos of the inside.
- What if the title for my truck was lost in the move?California’s title agency issues a duplicate title to the registered owner, and starting that application early keeps the sale moving. Tell us when you have it in hand.
