Freight, refuse and feed out of the hills
Of the 329 active Valley Center carriers on FMCSA’s carrier census, 101 put general freight among the loads they haul out of this hill town. If your box truck or tractor has spent its working life on general loads around the county, start by telling us the make, model and VIN; those three details let us match the truck to its record before anyone visits.
Machinery and large objects appear on 27 carrier registrations here, garbage and refuse on 21, and farm supplies on 19, according to that same FMCSA census. A lowboy tractor, a roll-off or a flatbed that moved feed and fertilizer each gets a different set of questions, so say up front which body or trailer the truck carries.
Most outfits in town stay inside California: the FMCSA registrations show 300 intrastate carriers against 28 interstate ones, with 118 running private fleets. If your truck was part of a private fleet for a nursery, contractor or farm, have the business name on the title match the person signing, or bring the paperwork that shows you can sign for the company.
Quarries south, west and north of town
The Mine Safety and Health Administration lists Jerry Brown, a dimension-stone quarry, 4.5 miles south of Valley Center. A dump truck or flatbed working out of a site that close may well still be parked at the quarry; give us the gate contact and the hours the site is open so the pickup fits around them.
Further out, Superior - Twin Oaks, a crushed-stone quarry 9.6 miles west, and Oceanview Mine, an industrial-mineral site 10.7 miles north, both appear in Mine Safety and Health Administration records, as does LAKESIDE - VIGILANTE AGGREGATES, a sand and gravel operation 23 miles south. Aggregate trucks from any of these can be collected where they stand; send clear photos of the bed, the frame and the cab with your enquiry.
Escondido’s rail yard and the installations nearby
ESCONDIDO YARD lies 9.1 miles south-west of town on the North American Rail Network kept by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, and EAST BROOK YARD sits 21.7 miles west. A tractor that has shuttled loads to either yard can be picked up from a lot near the tracks; tell us whose lot it is on so access is arranged with them.
Two military installations, Fallbrook California at 17.7 miles north-west and Warner Springs Rts at 19.4 miles east, are listed by the Bureau of Transportation Statistics. If your truck sits behind a controlled gate or on a contractor yard close to one, let us know who can escort a driver in.
Construction and growers in north county
Construction accounts for 273 of the 1,984 jobs located in Valley Center in 2023, per the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts, with agriculture, forestry, fishing and hunting at 179 and wholesale trade at 135. For a contractor’s dump truck or a grower’s stake bed, keep the registration card and any service records together with the title, since those are the papers we ask for first.
Building firms are thick on the ground too: 106 construction establishments around Valley Center turn up in the Census Bureau’s County Business Patterns. Across San Diego County, USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture records 4,031 farms, with foliage plants, potted flowering plants and cut flowers leading the list. A refrigerated or box truck that moved nursery stock fits what we purchase; note the body length and any reefer unit in your photos.
How old Valley Center’s trucks run
Across 117 trucks from local carriers inspected between September 2024 and August 2026, FMCSA roadside inspection records put the median model year at 2018, and 39.3 percent of those trucks were ten or more model years old. Whatever year yours is, read the model year off the title and include it with the VIN when you get in touch.
Of the 62 carriers here reporting mileage in FMCSA’s carrier census, the median truck covers 11,175 miles a year, and 291 carriers keep their drivers within 100 miles. Note the odometer reading in a photo of the dash so the figure you give us is the one we see.
The questions we get asked in Valley Center
- My dump truck is still at the quarry south of Valley Center. Must I haul it back to my driveway before you collect it?Jerry Brown, the dimension-stone quarry the Mine Safety and Health Administration places 4.5 miles south of town, is close enough that we collect from the site itself. Pass on the quarry office’s phone number and which mornings the stone yard lets a driver through.
- The pink slip for my Valley Center truck has gone missing. Which office can reissue it for a north county hauler?California’s title agency issues a duplicate for a truck titled in this state, and the request goes in under the name on the registration. File for the duplicate early and mention, when you write to us about the truck, that the replacement is on its way from the agency.
- Do you take trucks from small private fleets in Valley Center?FMCSA’s carrier census counts 118 private fleets among the town’s active carriers, and trucks from fleets that size are part of what we purchase. Have the company’s authorised signer ready for the title.
