The base next door
Selling a truck kept by the base gate
Just 5.5 miles west, past the edge of town, the Bureau of Transportation Statistics marks the military installation of Vandenberg Space Force Base. A truck kept on or beside a military installation can sit behind a gate, so when you contact us, say whether it is parked on base or off it and who can let a driver in.
If the truck is inside the base fence, give us the name and phone number of whoever can sponsor a visitor or move the truck out to the road. If it is in your driveway in town, a street address is enough, plus a note on where it is parked on the lot.
Quarry stone and mined minerals to the south
Acin Ranch, a dimension-stone quarry, lies 5.9 miles south-east of town on the Mine Safety and Health Administration’s mine register. Flatbeds and dump trucks that carry cut stone off a ranch quarry are the kind we collect; photograph the bed, the deck and the tires along with the cab and the door plate showing the VIN.
The Mine Safety and Health Administration also lists the Imerys Lompoc Plant, an industrial-mineral mine, 7.1 miles south. A truck that has served a mine site may need an escort or a gate pass to be reached there, so tell us early if it is still parked on the property rather than at home.
North county gravel
Gravel trucks from the north-east pits
Two sand and gravel operations show up to the north-east in Mine Safety and Health Administration records: Sisquoc Aggregates at 14.9 miles and the Garey Rock Plant at 15.6 miles. Both sit well outside Vandenberg Village, so a gravel truck parked near either one can be collected where it stands.
For a dump truck or transfer trailer from those pits, the useful papers are the California title, the current registration card, and any service records you kept. Send those with a photo of the odometer and we can talk through the rest on the phone.
Tractors kept near the northern rail yards
On the North American Rail Network, which the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics maintain, Santa Maria Yard lies 16.3 miles north of Vandenberg Village and Guadalupe Yard (SMV) 17.9 miles north-west. Day cabs that shuttle loads between those yards and the coast are trucks we buy.
If your tractor is kept near one of those yards in Santa Maria or Guadalupe, you can still list it from Vandenberg Village. Give us the yard or lot address and a contact who is there during the day, and we arrange the pickup at that spot.
One local job in five is construction
Of the 620 jobs sited in Vandenberg Village in 2023, construction held 129, a 20.8 percent share by the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts. Contractors’ pickups with a dump body, stake beds and small tippers are all welcome here, whether one truck or several.
If you are selling more than one construction truck, list each VIN together with the title holder’s name. Where a lender still holds a title, include the lienholder and an account number so the release can be handled during the sale.
Flowers and nursery stock
Reefer trucks from the county flower growers
USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture counts 1,359 farms in Santa Barbara County, and lists cut flowers and cultivated greens, potted flowering plants and transplants as the county’s leading products. Refrigerated box trucks and straight trucks that carry blooms and nursery trays fit what we purchase.
For a reefer truck, include photos of the refrigeration unit and its hour meter next to the usual shots of the cab and box. If the truck is parked at a greenhouse or field rather than in town, tell us which road it is on and how a tow rig gets in.
Clean truck regulations, as they stand
According to the California Air Resources Board, the Advanced Clean Fleets drayage, high priority and federal fleet requirements have been repealed. A federal court filing records enforcement of the 2036 zero-emission medium- and heavy-duty sales requirement as paused.
The Advanced Clean Trucks regulation remains contested, per the Air Resources Board’s own announcements. None of these rulings changes what you send us: the title, registration, VIN and photos are what a sale from Vandenberg Village starts with.
The questions we get asked in Vandenberg Village
- My truck is parked on Vandenberg Space Force Base. Will a driver come onto the base for it?The base sits 5.5 miles west of Vandenberg Village by the Bureau of Transportation Statistics’ figure, and a pickup there depends on getting through the gate. Give us a contact who can escort a driver or bring the truck out to a public road, and we plan around that.
- The dump truck is still at a gravel pit near Sisquoc. Do I need to move it into town first?Sisquoc Aggregates is 14.9 miles north-east of town in Mine Safety and Health Administration records, and the truck can be collected from that area without being moved. Send the site address and the name of whoever runs the gate.
- I haul flowers for a Santa Barbara County grower. Is a reefer box truck from that work something you buy?Cut flowers, potted flowering plants and transplants lead the county’s farm products in USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture, and reefer box trucks from that trade are trucks we buy. Include photos of the reefer unit and its hours.
