A town of small fleets
FMCSA’s carrier census lists 15 active motor carriers based in Superior, and the biggest of them runs 15 power units with 15 drivers. The next two on that census list run 2 trucks and 1 truck. If you are an owner-operator or run a two-truck outfit from a Superior address, you are the typical seller here, so have the title in the name that matches your USDOT registration before you call.
Of those Superior carriers, FMCSA records 10 as intrastate only, 5 as interstate and 6 as private fleets hauling their own goods. An intrastate tractor that never left Colorado still needs its Colorado registration card with it at collection, and a private-fleet truck should come with whatever company paperwork shows who signs for it.
New registrations are steady but small: the federal carrier census shows 3 carriers starting up in Superior during 2025 and 1 in 2024. A newer operation selling its first truck should gather the purchase papers, the lien release if the truck was financed, and the current registration in one folder.
Dry vans, lowboys and car carriers out of Superior
General freight is the cargo most Superior carriers list, with 8 of them naming it on FMCSA’s carrier census. Those are dry vans, box trucks and the tractors that pull them, and for any of them we want clear photos of the cab, the frame, the tires and the data plate on the door jamb.
Heavy machinery is the declared cargo for 3 carriers in town in FMCSA’s filings, and hauling cars and pickups is declared by 3 more. Lowboys, step-decks and car carriers fit those cargo classes, so tell us whether the trailer goes with the tractor or stays with you when we collect it.
Refrigerated food appears on the census filings of 2 carriers in Superior. If your reefer unit has its own service log, send that along with the tractor’s records, since the unit and the truck are listed separately.
Mines and gravel
Gravel pits a few miles out
The Mine Safety and Health Administration lists Jeffco Gravel Mine, a sand and gravel operation, and the Church Harvey Mine, an industrial-mineral site, both 4.9 miles south-west of Superior. Dump trucks and end-dumps that work those pits can be collected right where they are parked, as long as someone can let us onto the site.
Nelson Mining Resource, another sand and gravel operation on the MSHA roll, is 12.4 miles north-east of town. If your truck spends the week at a pit yard rather than at home, give us the pit’s name, the gate contact and the hours the yard is open.
Toward the Denver rail yards
South-east of Superior, the Bureau of Transportation Statistics lists the Irondale intermodal ramp in Denver 12.7 miles away, and the North American Rail Network shows two rail yards at 12.9 and 13.5 miles in the same direction. Day cabs that shuttle containers between those yards and Superior can be picked up at a drop lot near the ramp if that is where they sit.
Liquid freight has its own stops out that way: Sunco, a liquid bulk terminal on the Bureau of Transportation Statistics list, is 14.2 miles south-east, and the Energy Information Administration records a roofing and asphalt petroleum product terminal 13.2 miles away. A tanker tractor that loaded at either should come with its tank inspection reports and hazmat registration papers.
Wholesale jobs in town, corn and cattle in Boulder County
The Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts put 3,008 jobs in Superior in 2023, with wholesale trade accounting for 123 of them, or 4.1 percent. Box trucks and straight trucks that deliver for wholesalers are just as welcome as tractors; send the registration and a photo of the odometer.
Across Boulder County, USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture counts 826 farms, with corn, cattle and equine at the top of the list. Grain trucks, livestock haulers and horse-trailer pickups working those farms can be collected at the farm gate, and a county farm address is enough for us to plan the trip.
Colorado’s emission rules and a Superior sale
Colorado’s Air Quality Control Commission has both the Advanced Clean Trucks Rule and the Heavy-Duty Low NOx Rule in force under its Colorado Clean Cars and Trucks Regulation. Neither stops you from selling the truck you have now, and we take diesel tractors and straight trucks across the state.
If you are replacing a truck to meet those Colorado rules, keep the emissions label on the engine visible in your photos. It tells us the engine family and the year it was certified without anyone needing to dig through records.
The questions we get asked in Superior
- My dump truck stays at the Jeffco gravel pit south-west of Superior. Can the Jeffco gate be the collection point?Jeffco Gravel Mine sits 4.9 miles south-west of Superior on the Mine Safety and Health Administration’s list, and we come to the truck at the pit. Give us the gate contact so the pickup can be arranged with the site.
- I run a single truck under my own USDOT number in Superior. Is a lone tractor too small a sale for you? Most of the 15 carriers FMCSA’s census lists in Superior are small, with every one but the biggest running 2 trucks or fewer, and owners at that size are who we buy from. Have the title and your registration ready when you call.
- Does Colorado’s Advanced Clean Trucks Rule block a Superior owner from selling a diesel tractor?Colorado’s Advanced Clean Trucks and Heavy-Duty Low NOx rules are both in force, and they do not prevent you selling the diesel truck you own. Send photos including the engine’s emissions label.
- My truck hauls containers out of the Irondale ramp in Denver. Is a trip home to Superior needed before pickup?Irondale is 12.7 miles south-east of Superior according to the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, and the truck can stay wherever it is parked near the ramp. Tell us the lot and who can release the truck.
