Gravel on both edges of Windsor
The Mine Safety and Health Administration lists PORTABLE #1 Fort Collins, a sand and gravel operation 3.6 miles west of Windsor, and Parsons Sand and Gravel 4.8 miles to the east. A dump truck or end-dump tractor parked at either pit can be collected right there; send us the site name and who can let us through the gate.
Further out, TRUPP LOVELAND and MASONVILLE QUARRY, two dimension-stone quarries about 15 miles west, appear in the Mine Safety and Health Administration register too. Stone haulers that come back from those roads should be photographed with the bed or trailer in frame, along with the cab, the VIN plate and the tires.
If your tractor ran general loads for one of them, have the title and current registration in hand before you call, since those two documents settle most of the sale.
Machinery and large objects show up for 75 Windsor carriers in that FMCSA register, logs, poles, beams and lumber for 41, and farm supplies for 32. Lowboys, flatbeds and the tractors that pull them fit that mix; tell us the trailer type and whether it sells with the tractor or on its own.
Of those carriers, 187 are listed by FMCSA as intrastate and 83 as interstate, and 164 run private fleets that carry their own goods. A private-fleet truck often carries a company’s shop records; ask for copies when you take it over, or gather them now if the truck is yours.
Short runs around northern Colorado
Drivers tied to Windsor carriers number 967 operating within 100 miles of home and 348 beyond it, per FMCSA’s census. A truck on local routes is usually back in town at night, so pickup at a yard or driveway here is easy to set up; give us the address and a time someone is around.
For the 70 local carriers reporting mileage in FMCSA’s carrier census, the median comes to 13,044 miles per truck. Write down the odometer reading and send it with the VIN, and we can start from those two figures.
New registrations listed in FMCSA’s carrier census came to 21 in 2024 and 14 in 2025. If you started hauling recently and are now stepping out of it, the truck’s purchase papers and title are what we need first.
Rail yards and bridges near town
The North American Rail Network, kept by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, shows the NORTH rail yard 10.9 miles north-west of Windsor and the LONGMONT yard 23.9 miles south-west. Tractors that shuttle freight to those yards can be picked up where they are parked; tell us whether the lot is fenced.
Across Windsor’s 15 bridges in the National Bridge Inventory, none is load-posted and none clears under 14 feet. That means a tall or heavy truck parked in town can be reached with a carrier, so share the parking spot and we will plan the route from it.
Builders, plants and Weld County dairies
Construction accounts for 1,865 of Windsor’s 10,236 jobs in the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts for 2023, or 18.2 percent, and manufacturing for 1,316. Builders keep 173 construction establishments going in Windsor, by the count in the Census Bureau’s County Business Patterns. A contractor’s dump truck, flatbed or service body truck is the kind of unit that work keeps on the road; list any equipment mounted on it so we know what comes with the sale.
Cattle, milk and corn lead the 3,881 Weld County farms tallied in USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture. Grain trucks, livestock haulers and feed trucks parked on a farm outside Windsor are collected from the farm itself; describe the lane in and whether it is passable after rain.
Mining, quarrying and oil and gas extraction hold 301 jobs here and wholesale trade 348, on the same LEHD figures from the Census Bureau. Trucks from those trades often carry site permits or decals; keep any paperwork that shows where the truck was assigned.
Between September 2024 and August 2026, 156 trucks belonging to Windsor carriers were stopped and checked, and FMCSA roadside inspection records put their median model year at 2019. In those FMCSA inspection records, a third of the trucks, 33 percent, were ten or more model years old.
Colorado’s Air Quality Control Commission rules, published by the Colorado Secretary of State, put the Advanced Clean Trucks Rule and the Heavy-Duty Low NOx Rule in force. Have the truck’s model year and engine details ready, along with any emissions paperwork you hold.
