Rock and sand pits north-west and east of Alva
The Mine Safety and Health Administration lists SRM Materials Punta Gorda, a crushed-stone quarry, 10 miles north-west of Alva, with Jayrock another crushed-stone quarry at 10.8 miles in the same direction. A dump truck or tri-axle that hauls aggregate out of those two pits can be collected at the quarry gate or at your yard in Alva, so tell us which one and who holds the key.
East of town, Tomahawk 29 Mine is a sand and gravel operation 13 miles out on Mine Safety and Health Administration records, and Bermont Excavating Site 2 lies 16.4 miles north. If your truck is parked at one of those sites between loads, send us the site name and a photo of the VIN plate so the pickup can be planned at the pit rather than in town.
The Mine Safety and Health Administration also lists two industrial-mineral mines, Bell Mine 13.3 miles south and Halls Mine 18.2 miles north-west. Haul trucks and water trucks working those operations are welcome; send photos of the cab, the bed and the tires with your first message.
Only 7 of Alva’s 113 active carriers hold interstate authority, with the other 106 confined to Florida work, per FMCSA’s carrier census. Most trucks sold here will therefore be titled and kept in Florida, which keeps the paperwork simple: the Florida title, the current registration and your FMCSA number are the three items to gather first.
Of those 113 carriers, 58 operate as private fleets hauling their own goods, again per FMCSA’s census. A grove, nursery or contractor that keeps one truck for its own work can sell it the same way a for-hire carrier can, with the title in the business name and a signature from someone authorised to sign for the company.
New registrations continue on FMCSA’s census: 9 carriers started in Alva in 2025 and 7 in 2024. If you set up recently and the truck no longer suits the work you found, the title and the bill of sale from your purchase are what we will ask for.
Lowboy, log and feed loads from Alva
General freight is the cargo class most often listed by Alva carriers, with 50 of them naming it in FMCSA’s carrier census. Box trucks and day cabs that run general loads around Lee County fit that group, and a copy of the annual inspection report helps us match your truck to its records.
Machinery and large objects come next at 37 carriers on the same FMCSA census, which points to lowboys, tilt decks and the tractors that pull them. If you are selling a tractor and trailer together, tell us so and send the trailer’s own title or registration alongside the truck’s.
FMCSA’s census also shows 21 Alva carriers hauling logs, poles, beams and lumber and 15 hauling farm supplies. A log truck with a knuckleboom or a flatbed used for feed and fertiliser runs can be photographed where it sits, with the loader or bed equipment shown in the photos.
Groves and job sites
Farms, construction and the jobs behind them
The Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts put 265 of Alva’s 937 jobs in 2023 in agriculture, forestry, fishing and hunting, a 28.3 percent share. Lee County had 813 farms in USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture, with corn, cattle and honey at the top, so cattle haulers, grain trucks and farm flatbeds are part of what we collect here, often from a barn or pasture rather than a paved lot.
Construction holds 189 Alva jobs, a 20.2 percent share on the same LEHD figures, while County Business Patterns from the Census Bureau records 36 construction establishments. Dump trucks, concrete mixers and equipment haulers that belong to a contractor can be sold off a job site; give us the site address and the name of whoever will be there.
Wholesale trade adds 59 jobs, or 6.3 percent, in the Census Bureau’s LEHD counts for 2023. Straight trucks used for distribution are welcome too, and the registration plus any service invoices you kept are enough to start.
Short runs and long runs from eastern Lee County
On FMCSA’s carrier census, Alva carriers report 132 drivers working inside a 100-mile radius and 101 driving past it. A truck on a long run may be away from town when you decide to sell, so tell us where it will be parked next and we can arrange collection there.
For the 22 Alva carriers that gave FMCSA a yearly mileage, the typical truck logs a median 9,000 miles. Have the odometer reading ready when you contact us, along with the VIN, since those two figures start every listing we prepare.
Fleet sizes in Alva stay small on FMCSA’s census: the three biggest run 11, 10 and 8 power units with 8, 7 and 8 drivers. An owner selling several units at once can list them together, one VIN and title per truck.
A 2014 median at Alva inspections
Roadside officers checked 31 trucks from Alva carriers from September 2024 to August 2026, and in FMCSA roadside inspection records the middle model year of that group is 2014. We buy trucks of every model year, so state the year and make plainly when you first get in touch.
Of those 31 Alva trucks, FMCSA’s roadside records show 61.3 percent were built ten or more model years earlier. Whatever year yours is, the title is what matters most; if it has gone missing, the state’s title agency issues a duplicate, and starting that request early keeps the sale moving.
