A sand plant at the edge of Astatula
The Mine Safety and Health Administration lists the Astatula Sand Plant, a sand and gravel operation, just 0.3 miles south of town. A dump truck or end-dump trailer that hauls from that pit is often parked within sight of it, so tell us the yard or lot where it sits and who can unlock the gate on the day we collect.
Eleven point seven miles north, Lisbon Sand is another sand and gravel operation on the Mine Safety and Health Administration’s register, and Okahumpka, an industrial-mineral mine, lies 9.6 miles west. If your tractor or tandem split its loads between these sites, write down which ones it served and send photos of the bed, the frame and the cab so we see the truck you describe.
Stone and cement, westward
Quarry and cement runs to the west
Heading west 19.4 miles, the Mine Safety and Health Administration records both the Sumterville Cement Plant and the SUMTERVILLE MINE, a crushed-stone quarry. Bulk trailers and dump trucks on that run usually end the week back near home, but if yours is parked at a site out there, give us the address and a contact on the property and we will arrange the pickup where it stands.
Mid-Coast Aggregates LLC-Mazak Mine, a crushed-stone quarry 17.1 miles south-west, is also on the Mine Safety and Health Administration’s register. For a truck that carried stone from Mazak, keep its registration and whatever service records you have in the cab, ready to hand over at pickup.
Private fleets and log haulers in Astatula’s carrier roll
FMCSA’s carrier census counts 55 active carriers here, and 49 of them run intrastate only, with 25 operating as private fleets. A private fleet truck that hauled the owner’s own goods around Lake County is exactly the kind of unit we take, whether it is a single straight truck or one of several.
General freight is listed by 31 of those carriers, machinery and large objects by 16, and logs, poles, beams and lumber by 13, in that same FMCSA carrier census. Farm supplies appear on seven Astatula carrier filings in that census. Lowboys, log trailers and flatbeds all fit what we collect; send the VIN first, then the odometer reading and a few photos.
The biggest operation in that census runs 14 power units with 24 drivers, and two more run six units apiece. For a fleet owner thinning out several trucks at once, list every VIN together and tell us where each one is parked, so one visit can cover the yard.
Plants and nurseries
Manufacturing, wholesale and potted plants
Out of 561 jobs located in Astatula in 2023, manufacturing held 38.9 percent and wholesale trade 21.4 percent on the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts. Box trucks and tractors that served those plants and warehouses are welcome; have the title and registration together before we schedule the visit.
Lake County had 1,569 farms in USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture, and foliage plants, propagative material and potted flowering plants lead its list. Refrigerated straight trucks and reefer trailers that moved nursery stock fall within what we buy, so mention the unit on the reefer and send a photo of its plate.
Construction made up ten percent of local jobs in the same LEHD figures, and County Business Patterns from the Census Bureau show 12 construction establishments. A dump truck or flatbed that has worked those job sites can be collected from the site or the contractor’s lot.
A Leesburg counter for a missing title
An Astatula seller missing a title deals with the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles, which works through county tax collector service centers and license plate agents. For Astatula owners, the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles location list puts the Lake County motor vehicle service center - Plantation Service Center at 25321 US Hwy 27, Suite 108, Leesburg, 34748, 7.7 miles away.
Should the title be missing or still show a lienholder, that Leesburg office is where a duplicate or lien release gets processed. Bring your ID and the truck’s VIN, and tell us early if a replacement is underway so the paperwork and the pickup line up.
North-west and south-east
Tracks at Wildwood, tankers at Heniff
At 21.5 miles north-west of Astatula, the WILDWOOD rail yard is mapped in the North American Rail Network kept by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics. Tractors that shuttled loads to and from that yard can be picked up wherever they are kept now, near the yard or back in town.
South-east 23.2 miles, Heniff appears in Bureau of Transportation Statistics records as a liquid bulk terminal. If your tractor pulled tankers out of Heniff, say which trailers it ran with and include any site inspection paperwork you still have alongside the photos.
