Alico Road, Corkscrew and Bermont: the pits ringing Buckingham
The Mine Safety and Health Administration lists ALICO ROAD QUARRY, a crushed-stone quarry, 10.5 miles south of Buckingham, and SRM Materials Punta Gorda 10.6 miles to the north. A dump truck or tractor that hauls aggregate from either one may be parked at the pit or at a yard in between when you sell it. Give us the gate location and the name of whoever holds the key, and the pickup is planned around that site.
Further out, Bell Mine is an industrial-mineral mine 11.8 miles south-east, and Corkscrew is a sand and gravel operation 16.5 miles in the same direction, per the Mine Safety and Health Administration. If your truck spends its week on the road toward Corkscrew, photograph the bed, the frame rails and the cab interior where it stands, and send those with the VIN.
To the north, Halls Mine sits 20.8 miles out and Bermont Excavating Site 2, a sand and gravel operation, 20.9 miles out, both on the Mine Safety and Health Administration’s list. A truck working that stretch does not need to come back into Buckingham before collection; tell us which side of the county it is on.
FMCSA’s carrier census counts 105 active carriers in Buckingham, and 104 of them are registered for intrastate work against a single interstate carrier. For a seller that usually means a Florida title and Florida registration, so have both in hand before you reach out.
FMCSA’s census also marks 42 of the Buckingham carriers as private fleets, moving a business’s own loads, tools or materials and not freight for hire. A contractor’s truck that carries the company’s own equipment sells the same way as a for-hire tractor: the titled owner signs, and we need that name to match the registration.
The three top fleets by size on FMCSA’s carrier census here run 31, 28 and 22 power units. If you are selling several units from a fleet that size, send a list of VINs with each truck’s location so the trucks can be collected in one planned run.
Lowboy machinery, pine logs and roll-off refuse out of Buckingham
In FMCSA’s carrier census, 30 Buckingham outfits register for general freight while 23 sign up to move machinery and large objects. Lowboys, flatbed tractors and box trucks all come out of that work, so tell us the body type and the trailer setup when you describe yours.
Logs, poles, beams and lumber appear on 16 carrier registrations and garbage, refuse and trash on 13, per FMCSA’s carrier census. Log trucks and refuse trucks carry equipment a plain tractor does not, so list the crane, loader, packer body or roll-off hoist that is mounted on it, and include a photo of each.
Short runs and drivers close to home
FMCSA’s census shows 310 drivers at Buckingham carriers working within 100 miles of base and 41 going beyond that. Most trucks here are therefore likely to be found at a home yard or a job site in the region rather than out of state, which makes the address the first thing to send us.
Fourteen Buckingham carriers filed annual mileage with FMCSA, and their median truck logged 8,367 miles a year on those filings. Note the odometer reading from the dash when you photograph the cab, so the figure we work from is your own.
Model-year spread
Read the model year off the title or the VIN plate and include it with your first message.
Just under 44 percent of those 142 stopped trucks, 43.7 percent on the FMCSA roadside inspection records, carried a model year at least ten years back. Older or newer, the paperwork list stays the same: title, registration, and any inspection or service records you kept.
Building sites in Buckingham, corn and cattle across Lee County
Next to that, County Business Patterns from the Census Bureau records 249 construction establishments and 5 warehousing establishments. Dump trucks, flatbeds and equipment haulers from building sites are part of what we collect, and a truck parked at an active site just needs a contact who can let us in.
Honey ranks alongside corn and cattle among the leading products of Lee County’s 813 farms, as tallied in USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture. A farm truck or livestock hauler kept on a ranch outside Buckingham can be collected from the property; send directions to the barn or shed where it sits.
The questions we get asked in Buckingham
- Our dump truck sits at the Alico Road pit below Buckingham - has it got to come off the quarry first?ALICO ROAD QUARRY is 10.5 miles south of town on the Mine Safety and Health Administration’s list, and a truck parked there or at a nearby pit is collected where it stands. Pass along the quarry office or scale-house contact and we will set the visit up with them.
- My truck is registered for Florida-only work. How does that affect selling it?Of the 105 active Buckingham carriers in FMCSA’s census, 104 are intrastate, so a Florida-only registration is the usual case here. Have the Florida title and current registration ready in the owner’s name.
- The Buckingham truck’s title has gone missing - where do I get another?Buckingham trucks are titled through the state’s title agency, and a replacement comes from that office. File for the duplicate early and mention the pending application when you write to us, so we know the replacement title is on its way.
- Can you collect a refuse truck or log truck with equipment fitted?FMCSA’s carrier census lists 13 Buckingham carriers hauling garbage and refuse and 16 hauling logs, poles and lumber, and trucks from both kinds of work are collected here. List the body or loader mounted on yours and send a photo of it.
