Two military installations close to town
Heading south out of Callaway, the Bureau of Transportation Statistics puts the Tyndall Air Force Base boundary 5.9 miles away. If your truck has hauled material or equipment through the Tyndall gates, it may be parked on a contractor lot near the base rather than in a Callaway driveway, so give us the lot’s address and the name of whoever holds the keys.
Naval Support Activity Panama City is the second installation on the Bureau of Transportation Statistics list, 12.5 miles west. A tractor or box truck that served either site can be collected where it sits; send the VIN, a clear photo of the title and pictures of each side of the truck so the pickup can be planned around the location.
Yards north-west, an intermodal ramp west
The North American Rail Network, kept by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, places the SHERMAN and PANAMA CITY rail yards 6.8 miles north-west of town. Day cabs that shuttle freight between those yards and Bay County customers are a familiar sight on local routes, and we buy them as they are.
West Terminal, a rail intermodal ramp listed by the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, is 11.4 miles west of Callaway. If you pulled containers off that ramp, tell us whether the tractor is still hooked to a chassis and who owns that chassis; only the tractor leaves with us.
The bayside port and the petroleum terminal
At 7.2 miles west, the Energy Information Administration records the PANAMA CITY FL petroleum product terminal. Tank tractors and fuel trucks that loaded there should come with whatever hazmat placards, tank test certificates and registration papers you still hold; keep them in the cab so they travel with the truck.
Panama City Port Authority, FL sits 9 miles north-west of Callaway on the Bureau of Transportation Statistics port list. Trucks that work the docks are often parked inside a fenced terminal yard, so let us know if a gate pass or an escort is needed before anyone arrives to collect.
Bridges a heavy truck crosses on the way out
Of the 8 bridges the National Bridge Inventory records in and around Callaway, 2 carry posted load limits. When a loaded tractor or dump truck sits behind one of those crossings, mention the street it is parked on so we bring a rig and a route suited to the weight.
None of those 8 crossings has clearance below 14 feet, the Federal Highway Administration’s National Bridge Inventory shows, so height is not a constraint for collecting a tall box truck or a tractor with a raised stack here.
Construction jobs and the Sandhills pit
In 2023 the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts tallied 1,901 jobs located in Callaway, and construction crews held 161 of them, an 8.5 percent slice. Dump trucks, flatbeds and mixer chassis that served those crews are trucks we take on; keep the registration current and gather any service invoices you have in one folder.
Sandhills Plant 2, a sand and gravel operation, lies 24 miles north of town in Mine Safety and Health Administration records. A dump truck that ran aggregate from that pit may still be parked out there; tell us if the truck is on mine property so we can arrange access with the operator.
Cattle, goats and honey across the county
USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture counts 139 farms in Bay County, with cattle, goats and honey at the top of the list. Livestock haulers, stake-bed trucks and farm flatbeds that serve those operations can be collected from a pasture gate or barn lot.
If the farm truck is titled to a family member or a farm business rather than to you, have the person named on the title ready to sign. A truck registered in Florida but never titled in your name needs that paperwork sorted with the state’s title agency before we can complete the purchase.
The questions we get asked in Callaway
- Will you collect a tractor sitting on a contractor yard by Tyndall?Tyndall Air Force Base is 5.9 miles south of Callaway by the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, and we collect from lots near it as well as from homes in town. Pass along the yard’s street address plus a phone number for whoever unlocks it.
- Is a bridge weight limit going to block the pickup? Two of the 8 bridges around Callaway carry posted load limits in the National Bridge Inventory, so tell us the street the truck is on and we plan the route around those crossings.
- I hauled from the Panama City port. Do I need to move the truck first?Panama City Port Authority, FL is 9 miles north-west of town on the Bureau of Transportation Statistics port list, and the truck can stay inside the terminal yard. Tell us what pass or escort the gate requires.
- Can I sell a dump truck parked in Bay County if I cannot find its paper title?Callaway trucks are titled through Florida’s state title agency, which issues replacement titles; request a duplicate there, then send us a photo of it along with the VIN.
