Mixed freight, car carriers and timber loads
General freight is the cargo named by 167 of the 272 active Carrollwood motor carriers on FMCSA’s carrier census. If your tractor or box truck has been doing that kind of mixed freight around Tampa, send us the VIN, the odometer reading and a few clear photos of the cab, the frame and the tires, and we can start from there.
Behind general freight, the same federal census counts 33 Carrollwood carriers hauling motor vehicles, 23 moving logs, poles, beams and lumber, and 23 carrying machinery and large objects. Car haulers, flatbeds, lowboys and their tractors all fit what we buy, so tell us which trailer the truck usually pulled and whether that trailer is part of the sale.
Of those 272 registered operators, the federal motor carrier census records 212 running intrastate, 59 authorised for interstate work and 54 operating as private fleets that move their own goods. A private-fleet truck is often titled to the business rather than a person, so have the company name on the title and someone authorised to sign for it ready when you call.
Local radius work around Hillsborough County
Drivers registered to Carrollwood carriers split 394 working within 100 miles of base and 203 going beyond it, according to FMCSA’s census filings. For a truck that spends its week on short Tampa Bay runs, the simplest pickup is usually at the yard or the driveway where it sleeps between shifts; give us that address and the hours someone can open the gate.
A typical Carrollwood truck logs 35,000 miles a year, the median across the 49 carriers here that filed mileage with FMCSA. Write the current odometer figure down from the dash before you contact us and include a photo of it, so the number on the paperwork and the number in the cab agree.
New registrations have picked up as well: the federal carrier census logs 32 Carrollwood operators added in 2025, against 12 in 2024. If you started a one-truck operation recently and are now stepping back from it, bring the title, the current registration and your USDOT number, and we will work through the rest with you.
What inspections show about the local fleet
Between September 2024 and August 2026, FMCSA roadside inspection records logged 111 trucks belonging to Carrollwood operators, and their median model year was 2016. Whatever year yours is, the model year printed on the title is the one we go by, so photograph that line along with the VIN plate on the door jamb.
Of those 111 Carrollwood trucks pulled aside for inspection, 55.86 percent carried a model year ten or more years back, on the FMCSA roadside record. Tractors and straight trucks of every model year are part of what we purchase, so send any service invoices or annual inspection reports you have kept along with the photos.
The three biggest fleets based here run 40, 27 and 19 power units, by the federal carrier census, with 36, 28 and 17 drivers respectively. If you are clearing several units out of a yard that size, list each VIN and where each truck is parked, and we can plan one visit rather than several.
Down by the water
Rail yards and fuel terminals south-east of town
Heading south-east toward the bay, the Port Tampa rail yard is 8.7 miles from Carrollwood and the UCETA yard 10.4 miles, as mapped in the North American Rail Network from the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics. A tractor that has been shuttling loads to and from those yards can be collected wherever it is parked, whether that is in the neighborhood or down near the tracks.
Two petroleum product terminals, Tampa North and Tampa PT Ybor FL Asphalt, both sit 8.7 miles south-east on Energy Information Administration listings. Tank tractors that have worked those loading racks are trucks we take; tell us the trailer type it pulled and send any tank or cargo inspection paperwork you hold.
On Bureau of Transportation Statistics records, the Transflo CSXT liquid bulk terminal lies 9.3 miles away and the CITGO Petroleum Corporation liquid bulk terminal 9.8 miles away, while the Port Tampa Bay roll-on/roll-off berths at Hooker’s Point are 10.1 miles south-east. If your truck is sitting at a terminal lot rather than at home, tell us whose lot it is on so the collection can be arranged with them.
Construction, cement and the work trucks behind them
Carrollwood had 13,493 jobs in 2023 by the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts, including 862 in construction, 747 in manufacturing and 528 in wholesale trade. Dump trucks, flatbeds and box trucks serving those employers are all on our list, and a current registration and clean title in the seller’s name keep the sale simple.
Builders are well represented too, with 203 construction establishments recorded around Carrollwood in the Census Bureau’s County Business Patterns. The Mine Safety and Health Administration lists the Tampa Cement Grinding Plant 9.6 miles south-east, so if you run a mixer or a bulk cement trailer between that plant and job sites, photos of the drum or tank along with the tractor help us understand the whole unit.
Aquatic plant, cattle and nursery hauling
USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture counts 1,992 farms in Hillsborough County, with aquatic plants, cattle and transplants leading the county’s farm products. Livestock haulers, stake beds and nursery delivery trucks from those operations qualify, and we can collect them at the farm gate.
Farm trucks are sometimes registered under agricultural tags or kept on a farm entity’s title, so check whose name appears before you call. Have the title, registration and the name of whoever can sign for the farm ready, and a single visit to the property covers the pickup.
The questions we get asked in Carrollwood
- My tractor is parked near the Port Tampa rail yard rather than at my Carrollwood house; will you pick it up from the yard? The North American Rail Network puts Port Tampa yard 8.7 miles south-east of town, and a yard like that is a fine collection point; give us the address and a contact who can let us in.
- I run one of the private fleets registered here. What do you need from the business?FMCSA’s carrier census lists 54 private fleets in Carrollwood, and for any of them we need the title in the company’s name, current registration and a signature from someone authorised to sell for the business.
- My truck’s model year is well before 2016. Do you still buy it?FMCSA roadside inspection records put the local median model year at 2016, and trucks on either side of that line are ones we purchase; start by sending the VIN, the title’s model year line and photos of the cab and frame.
