Lower Keys carriers
FMCSA’s carrier census shows 37 active carriers based at Cudjoe Key, and every one of them is registered for intrastate work only, with none listed as interstate. A truck sold from here has most likely spent its life on Florida roads, so a Florida title and current Florida registration are the two papers to find first.
Twenty of those 37 carriers are private fleets in the federal carrier census, meaning they haul their own goods rather than freight for hire. If your truck belonged to a contractor or island business that ran its own deliveries, have the company’s title in hand and the name of whoever is authorized to sign it.
The biggest operation on the Cudjoe Key list runs nine power units with four drivers, according to FMCSA records, and the next two each run two trucks with one driver. With fleets that small, the person selling is usually the person who drove the truck, which makes it easy to answer our questions about where it is parked and how to reach it.
Freight, machinery, lumber and refuse on the island chain
General freight leads the cargo filings at Cudjoe Key, with 16 carriers listing it in FMCSA’s census, followed by machinery and large objects at 8. Box trucks, flatbeds and tractors that moved goods and equipment along the Keys all fit what we buy; send photos of the cab, the bed or body, and the plate on the door.
Seven local carriers tell FMCSA they haul logs, poles, beams and lumber, and four list garbage, refuse and trash. A lumber flatbed or a refuse body truck from a Monroe County route is something we collect where it sits, so tell us whether it is at a yard, a job site or a driveway on the key.
For the six Cudjoe Key carriers that report mileage to FMCSA, the median truck covered 6,750 miles in a year. Read the odometer off the dash of your own truck, photograph it beside the VIN plate, and send both pictures with your first message.
Drivers and reach
Most drivers stay within a hundred-mile radius
Of the drivers counted in the federal carrier census for Cudjoe Key, 52 work within a 100-mile radius and 34 go beyond it. Whether your truck ran short hops around the islands or longer trips across Florida, we come to the truck rather than asking you to bring it to us.
New registrations have been steady but small: FMCSA’s census logs five carriers that started here in 2024 and two in 2025. If your authority is new and the truck is the only one under it, have the operating authority paperwork with the title so the ownership chain is clear in one look.
Base access
Trucks parked west toward Saddlebunch Keys and Key West
The Bureau of Transportation Statistics places the TR SI Saddlebunch Keys military installation 6.5 miles west of Cudjoe Key and NAS Key West 14.1 miles to the south-west. If your truck is parked near either one, give us the exact address and any gate or access notes, so collection is planned around the site rules.
Contractors who supply those bases often keep trucks staged off the base itself. Tell us whether the truck is inside a controlled area or out on a public road, and send a photo of where it sits so the driver who comes for it knows what to expect.
Key Deer Boulevard handles a missing title
In Florida, titles are issued by the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles through county tax collector service centers and license plate agents. The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles’ office list puts the Monroe County motor vehicle service center - Big Pine Key at 247 Key Deer Boulevard, Big Pine Key, 33043, about 8.9 miles from Cudjoe Key.
If the title is lost, that Big Pine Key service center is where to apply for a duplicate before the sale. Bring your ID and the registration, and if a lien was ever recorded on the truck, bring the lender’s release as well so the new title prints clear.
Work on the keys
Construction crews and aquatic plant growers on the keys
The Census Bureau’s County Business Patterns lists 37 construction establishments for the area, and its LEHD job counts put 436 jobs at Cudjoe Key in 2023. Dump trucks, flatbeds and service bodies that worked building sites on the islands are trucks we buy; have the registration and any service records together before you call.
Monroe County had 39 farms in USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture, with aquatic plants, corn and potted flowering plants listed as its top products. A nursery or growing operation on the keys that runs a stake bed or small box truck can sell it to us with the title and a set of clear photos.
