Twenty-three small carriers on the north end of Pinellas
FMCSA’s carrier census shows 23 active motor carriers based in East Lake, and 12 of them list general freight among what they carry. If your box truck or tractor has been doing mixed freight around Tarpon Springs, Oldsmar and the county roads, tell us the body type and the VIN when you first get in touch so we know which kind of unit we are arranging to collect.
Six of those East Lake carriers haul logs, poles, beams or lumber, according to the same federal census, and four carry machinery and large objects. A flatbed, a lowboy or a log trailer setup is something we buy along with the tractor, so list the trailer separately with its own plate and title if it has one.
Four East Lake carriers in that federal census also list farm supplies as cargo. For a feed or fertiliser truck, send photos of the cab, the deck or box, the tires and the data plate on the door jamb along with the VIN.
Mostly in-state work, with some trucks crossing the line
Seventeen of the East Lake carriers are intrastate operations and six run interstate, the FMCSA census records, while eight operate as private fleets hauling their own goods. A private-fleet truck often carries a company name on the doors; that is fine, just make sure the person signing the Florida title is the registered owner or an officer of the business that owns it.
Driver radius is split here: FMCSA lists 22 drivers who stay within 100 miles and 17 who go beyond it. If your truck is out on a run past that radius when you call us, say where it will be parked when it returns, and we will plan the collection around that spot instead of your house.
The biggest local operation in the federal census runs five power units with six drivers, followed by one with four units and three drivers and one with two of each. Selling a single truck out of a fleet that small is ordinary for us; bring the registration and the title for that one unit and leave the rest of the fleet out of it.
Down the bay
Fuel terminals, cement and Port Tampa Bay
Around 19.3 miles south-east of East Lake, the Energy Information Administration lists two petroleum product terminals, Tampa North and the Tampa Port Ybor asphalt terminal. A tractor that has pulled fuel or asphalt tankers from those racks can be sold with or without the trailer; tell us which, and send the trailer’s plate number if it is included.
The Mine Safety and Health Administration records the Tampa Cement Grinding Plant 19.8 miles away, and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics places the CITGO Petroleum Corporation and Transflo CSXT liquid bulk terminals at 19.9 and 20.1 miles. Mixer, pneumatic tanker and bulk tractors that load at those sites can be collected from a yard near the plant if that is where they are kept, so give us the gate contact.
Port Tampa Bay’s Hooker’s Point berths 201 to 203, a roll-on/roll-off terminal 20.4 miles from East Lake on Bureau of Transportation Statistics records, sit beside the PORT TAMPA rail yard 19 miles out in the North American Rail Network. If your truck drayed from those docks or the yard, there is no need to bring it home first; tell us the address it sits at.
Plant floors, job sites and distributors around East Lake
The Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts put 6,503 jobs in East Lake in 2023, with manufacturing at 647 of them, or 9.9 percent. Straight trucks and tractors that serve plants and shops in the area are trucks we purchase; have the service records in the cab when we arrive, if you kept them.
Construction accounts for 443 East Lake jobs, 6.8 percent of the total in the LEHD figures, and County Business Patterns counts 44 construction establishments. Dump trucks, flatbeds and equipment haulers from a contractor’s yard can be picked up right there, and the business owner or an authorised officer signs the title.
Wholesale trade adds 247 jobs, 3.8 percent, per the same Census Bureau LEHD release. A delivery box truck or reefer from a distributor sells the same way as any other unit: title, registration and a few clear photos are what we ask for first.
Potted plants, hives and herds on Pinellas farmland
USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture counts 115 farms in Pinellas County, and lists potted flowering plants, honey and cattle at the top of its output. A nursery stake-bed, a straight truck carrying hives or a cattle hauler from one of those farms fits the trucks we buy.
If the farm truck stays out at the property, send us the gate directions and a phone number for whoever is there. A farm-plated truck still needs its Florida title in the owner’s name; if the title has gone missing, start a duplicate with the state’s title agency before we schedule the pickup.
The questions we get asked in East Lake
- My tractor stays at a lot by the Ybor fuel racks. Does it need driving north to East Lake first? The Energy Information Administration lists the Tampa North and Tampa Port Ybor asphalt terminals about 19.3 miles south-east of East Lake, and we can collect the truck from a yard near them. Tell us which Tampa yard by the asphalt and fuel racks the tractor is parked in, and who there can open it for our driver.
- Will you buy a lumber or log truck from an East Lake carrier?Six of East Lake’s 23 active carriers in FMCSA’s census haul logs, poles, beams or lumber, and those tractors and trailers are trucks we purchase. Send photos of the tractor and the trailer and tell us whether both are for sale.
- I run a two-truck business. Can I sell just one?Two of the three biggest East Lake operations in the FMCSA census run four units or fewer, so selling one truck from a small outfit is routine here. Bring the title and registration for that truck only.
- My nursery truck is titled to the farm, so whose signature goes on the transfer?Pinellas County has 115 farms in USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture, with potted flowering plants listed first, and a farm-owned truck is signed over by the person or business named on the Florida title.
