Stone south of Miami
Quarries and a cement plant up the county
The Mine Safety and Health Administration records the SDI Aggregates crushed-stone quarry 5.2 miles south of Leisure City and Krome Quarry 13.2 miles north. If your dump truck or tractor hauls rock out of either pit, it may be sitting at a quarry lot when you call; give us that gate address and we arrange collection there.
Further up, Miami Cement Plant and the Epic Stoneworks dimension-stone quarry both sit 20.2 miles out, per the Mine Safety and Health Administration. A mixer or flatbed that shuttles between those two sites and Leisure City job sites should come with its title and registration in the cab, so the paperwork travels with the truck on collection day.
GENERAL CEMENT, Hialeah and PortMiami
On the North American Rail Network, kept by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, the GENERAL CEMENT rail yard lies 14.6 miles north and the HIALEAH (FEC) yard 24 miles north. Owners whose day cabs drop loads at those sidings can send us photos taken at the yard, with the VIN plate and the odometer in frame.
PortMiami sits 8.9 miles north-west, according to the Bureau of Transportation Statistics. A tractor that pulls containers off the port and back down to the Homestead end of the county is one we buy; tell us whether it sleeps at the terminal or at your house, and we plan around that spot.
Eleven small intrastate carriers
FMCSA’s carrier census lists 11 active carriers based in Leisure City, every one of the 11 running intrastate, with 3 of them operating as private fleets. A truck from an outfit that never crosses the Florida line will carry a Florida title, so have that title or a lost-title application from the state’s title agency ready before we arrive.
The three biggest Leisure City fleets in the FMCSA carrier census each field 1 power unit and 1 driver. Selling a one-truck operation usually means the owner is also the driver, so you can sign the title yourself and hand over the keys at the same visit.
Cargo on file
Freight, refuse and vehicle haulers
General freight shows up on 4 Leisure City carrier registrations in FMCSA’s census, with garbage and refuse on 2, motor vehicles on 2 and chemicals on 1. Box trucks, roll-offs, car haulers and tankers are all on our list; name the body type when you first get in touch.
For a refuse truck or a car carrier, the body is half of what we look at, so photograph the packer or the deck as well as the cab. A chemicals hauler registered with FMCSA should come with its hazmat placard history and any inspection reports you kept.
Leisure City builders and county foliage growers
In 2023 the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts placed 1,308 jobs in Leisure City, and 163 of them, or 12.5 percent, were in construction. Contractors winding down a dump truck, stake bed or flatbed from those crews can list the equipment mounted on it, such as a hoist or a liftgate, so we know the full rig.
Miami-Dade County had 2,664 farms in USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture, with foliage plants, potted flowering plants and cut flowers and greens at the top of the list. Reefer box trucks and stake beds that move nursery stock between Miami-Dade growers can be picked up at the grower’s lot; just tell us which gate the truck sits behind.
Twenty-one spans, none posted
The National Bridge Inventory counts 21 bridges in Leisure City, none of them load-posted and none of them under 14 feet of clearance. For a tall or heavy truck, that means no posted span in town to plan a collection route around.
Even so, give us the overall height of a box truck or a loaded rollback when you send photos. With that figure in hand we choose the right trailer for collecting it from your yard.
The questions we get asked in Leisure City
- Will you collect a truck that is parked at a quarry near Leisure City?SDI Aggregates is 5.2 miles south and Krome Quarry 13.2 miles north, by the Mine Safety and Health Administration’s records, and we collect from quarry lots like those. Give us the gate address and who on site can let our driver in.
- Is a tractor that never leaves the state a problem for a Leisure City sale? All 11 Leisure City carriers in FMCSA’s carrier census run intrastate, so a Florida-only truck is the usual case here. Have the Florida title ready, or ask the state’s title agency for a replacement if it is lost.
- I run one truck as an owner-operator. Can I still sell it to you? Each of the three biggest Leisure City fleets in FMCSA’s census runs 1 power unit with 1 driver, so a single truck is normal for this town. Include the name on the title when you send the VIN and photos of that one truck.
- Do you buy refuse trucks and car haulers?Garbage and refuse appears on 2 Leisure City registrations in FMCSA’s census, and motor vehicles on another 2, and both body types are ones we buy. Photograph the packer or the car deck along with the cab.
