Cocoa-Rockledge yard and the Cocoa intermodal ramp
The North American Rail Network, kept by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, places the Cocoa-Rockledge rail yard 4.2 miles north-west of Merritt Island. If your tractor has shuttled loads off that yard, tell us whether it is parked in Cocoa, Rockledge or back on Merritt Island, so the collection is routed to the right spot.
Just past it, about 4.4 miles out in the same direction, the Bureau of Transportation Statistics lists the Cocoa intermodal ramp. A day cab that has pulled containers there can be collected from a yard near the ramp or from your driveway on the island; send the VIN, a clear photo of the title and a few pictures of the cab and chassis, and we plan the pickup from those.
The Cape piers
Roll-on, liquid bulk and fuel terminals at the Cape
South Cargo Pier 4 at Port Canaveral, a roll-on/roll-off terminal, lies 7.8 miles north-east of town by the Bureau of Transportation Statistics’ listing, and the same agency places the VTTI liquid bulk terminal 8.3 miles out on that heading. Tankers and flatbeds that have served those piers often stay parked near the port between jobs; if yours is sitting in a lot there, give us the lot’s address and the name of whoever can open the gate.
The Energy Information Administration records two petroleum product terminals under the Cape Canaveral name, at 7.9 and 8.3 miles north-east. For a fuel tractor or tank truck that has run those terminals, keep any hazmat registration paperwork and inspection reports in the same folder as the title and send copies with your photos.
Patrick and Cape Canaveral Space Force sites
Patrick Space Force Base is 6.6 miles south-east of Merritt Island and Cape Canaveral Space Force Station is 13.3 miles north-east, both listed by the Bureau of Transportation Statistics as military installations. A truck that has made deliveries onto either base is usually kept off base afterwards, so tell us the civilian address where it is parked today.
If the truck is on a contractor’s yard near Patrick or the Cape, confirm that we can reach it without a base pass before the pickup is booked. A photo of where it stands, with the road it faces, saves a second trip.
Freight, passenger, machinery and refuse haulers on the island
Of the 117 active Merritt Island carriers in FMCSA’s census, 100 keep to Florida roads, 17 hold interstate authority and 48 haul their own goods as private fleets. In the same FMCSA census, 50 of those carriers list general freight, 19 carry passengers, 18 move machinery and large objects and 16 haul garbage and refuse; a box truck, a shuttle bus, a lowboy tractor or a roll-off all fit what we collect here.
Fleets on the island are small: the federal carrier census shows one with 8 power units and 5 drivers, one with 6 units and 6 drivers and one with 4 units and 5 drivers. An owner selling one truck from a fleet that size should bring the registration and the title for that unit only, and we handle it as a single sale.
Registrations keep coming, too; FMCSA lists 12 carriers new to Merritt Island in 2025 and 8 in 2024. If you set up a carrier recently and are selling a truck bought for it, have the bill of sale and the title in your name ready together.
Short-haul routes and miles per truck
On FMCSA’s carrier census, 148 drivers for island-based operators work within a 100-mile radius and 82 go beyond it. Whichever group your truck belongs to, a current odometer photo is one of the first things we ask for.
Among 20 Merritt Island carriers that reported mileage, FMCSA’s census puts the median at 13,333 miles a truck in a year. That is a neutral figure for the island’s operators; read your own off the dash and include it with the photos you send.
On the roads themselves, the National Bridge Inventory from the Federal Highway Administration lists 13 bridges in Merritt Island, one of them load-posted and none under 14 feet of clearance. Mention if your truck is parked past that posted bridge, so the carrier we send to collect it can choose its route.
Building crews, plants and Brevard’s cattle and honey farms
The Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts for 2023 put 10,369 jobs in Merritt Island, with 751 in construction (7.2 percent), 449 in manufacturing (4.3 percent), 153 in transportation and warehousing and 61 in wholesale trade. Dump trucks, flatbeds and service bodies from building sites are welcome; tell us whether any attached equipment, such as a crane or a lift gate, stays with the truck.
Seventy-six construction establishments show up for the island in the Census Bureau’s County Business Patterns. If your truck belongs to one of them, the person whose name is on the title is the one who signs it over, so check that before we arrange collection.
Across Brevard County, USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture counts 584 farms, led by cattle, honey and potted flowering plants. A livestock hauler or a nursery delivery truck from inland Brevard is collected where it sits; send the county road address and photos of the body as well as the cab.
The questions we get asked in Merritt Island
- My truck is parked near Port Canaveral’s South Cargo Pier 4. Does it have to be driven back to Merritt Island first?South Cargo Pier 4 is 7.8 miles north-east of the island by the Bureau of Transportation Statistics’ listing, and the truck can stay right where it is. Give us the lot address and a contact who can let the driver in.
- I run a refuse truck for a small Brevard County hauler. Is that a truck you collect?Sixteen Merritt Island carriers in FMCSA’s census list garbage and refuse as cargo, and their packers and roll-offs are trucks we collect. Have the title and registration for the unit ready and send photos of the body and the cab.
- The truck is stored near the Cocoa-Rockledge yard, not on the island. Can you pick it up in Cocoa rather than on Merritt Island?Cocoa-Rockledge sits 4.2 miles north-west of Merritt Island on the North American Rail Network, close enough that we simply collect it from the yard or lot where it is parked. Tell us the address and the gate hours.
- Which papers and photos do island owners send before a Brevard pickup? For the 117 carriers FMCSA counts in Merritt Island and for single owners alike, the list is the same: the title, the current registration, the VIN, an odometer photo and pictures of the truck from each side.
