North Port’s registered motor carriers
FMCSA’s carrier census shows 415 active motor carriers based in North Port, and 322 of them are registered for intrastate work only, against 93 cleared to cross state lines. If your truck has only ever worked Florida roads, have the Florida registration and title together before you reach out, since those two papers settle most of the first conversation.
Of those 415 carriers, 112 run as private fleets moving their own goods rather than hauling for hire, according to the same FMCSA census. A contractor’s dump truck or a landscaper’s flatbed parked behind a shop on a residential lot counts; send us the street address and say whether a gate or a neighbour’s driveway is in the way.
Newcomers keep registering: the federal carrier census records 39 new North Port carriers in 2025 and 25 in 2024. If you set up your authority recently and are now letting a unit go, keep the USDOT number handy so we can match the truck to the operation it ran under.
Freight on board
Cargo lines listed by Sarasota County haulers here
General freight is listed by 238 North Port carriers in FMCSA’s census, motor vehicles by 60, and machinery or large objects by 56. Car haulers, lowboys and step-decks all fit that mix; photograph the trailer deck, the ramps or winches and the tractor’s VIN plate so we can see the full rig before we schedule anything.
Thirty-seven carriers in town list fresh produce, per FMCSA’s registration records. A reefer unit has its own paperwork, so keep the refrigeration unit’s model and hour reading with the tractor title when you send details.
Shell, sand and the mines around town
The Mine Safety and Health Administration lists an industrial-mineral mine producing shell fill 12.3 miles south-west of North Port. A dump truck or end-dump trailer that has been hauling from that pit can stay at the yard if the operator allows it; give us the gate contact and we arrange the collection on site.
Heading east, Washington Loop Mine, a sand and gravel operation, sits 16.6 miles out and DSF Bishop Mine 17.7 miles out, both on MSHA’s mine register. For a truck parked out at one of those properties, tell us which entrance it is closest to and whether the ground is firm enough for a tow vehicle to reach it.
Construction jobs and the trucks that serve them
Construction accounts for 1,769 of North Port’s 11,541 jobs, a 15.3% share, in the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts for 2023. Dump trucks, mixers and flatbeds that work building sites often sit at the jobsite between contracts; tell us the site address and the name of whoever controls access.
Sarasota-area builders run 405 construction establishments on the Census Bureau’s County Business Patterns tally. If your truck belongs to one of those businesses rather than to you personally, the title will be in the company name, so have a signing officer ready to sign it over.
The same 2023 LEHD release counts 473 manufacturing jobs, 267 in wholesale trade and 218 in transportation and warehousing in North Port. Box trucks and straight trucks from those employers are part of what we collect; a current registration card and the title are the two documents to locate first.
How far North Port trucks travel and how old they are
Drivers working within 100 miles number 368 across North Port carriers, while 337 are recorded going beyond that radius, per FMCSA’s census. If your truck is out on a long run right now, it does not have to come home first; tell us where it will be parked and when.
Among the 92 carriers reporting mileage to FMCSA, the median truck covered 40,814 miles a year. Write the current odometer reading down along with the VIN before you contact us; those two numbers open every conversation we have about a truck.
FMCSA roadside inspection records from 2024-09-19 to 2026-08-25 cover 196 trucks from North Port carriers, with a median model year of 2017 and 45.9% at ten or more years old. Whatever year yours is, the model year on the title is the one we use, so check that it matches the cab.
Cattle, nurseries and Sarasota County farms
USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture counts 286 farms in Sarasota County, with propagative material, cattle and foliage plants leading the list. Livestock trailers and nursery delivery trucks are part of that picture; if the truck is kept on a farm, tell us the gate and the field it sits in.
Farm trucks are sometimes titled to the farm business or to a family member, so look at whose name is printed on the title before anything else. If it has been lost, the Florida title agency issues a duplicate to the owner of record.
The questions we get asked in North Port
- My truck only ever ran Florida intrastate loads; will you still take it?Yes, intrastate-only trucks are welcome. FMCSA’s carrier census shows 322 of North Port’s 415 carriers registered for intrastate work only, and we buy those trucks with a Florida title and registration.
- The truck is titled to my North Port construction company rather than to me; who signs? An officer of the company signs the title over; the Census Bureau’s County Business Patterns lists 405 construction establishments here, and company-titled trucks from them are routine for us.
