Center Sand country
Sand pits south-west of Oakland
Center Sand Company, a sand and gravel operation listed by the Mine Safety and Health Administration, lies 4.5 miles south-west of Oakland, and Independent Mine sits just beyond it at 4.6 miles. A dump truck or end-dump tractor that has worked those pits can be collected from the pit yard itself. Give us the gate details and the name of whoever holds the key.
Further out, the Okahumpka industrial-mineral mine is on the Mine Safety and Health Administration’s list 20 miles north-west of town. If your truck has hauled out of Okahumpka as well as the closer sand pits, say which sites it served when you first get in touch, and send photos of the body, the cab and the plate showing the VIN.
Tankers and rail freight across the county
Heniff, a liquid bulk terminal on the Bureau of Transportation Statistics list, is 14.7 miles east of Oakland, and the Energy Information Administration places an Orlando petroleum product terminal 18.4 miles to the south-east. Tank trucks and the tractors that pull them between those two sites are trucks we buy. Have the registration and any tank test or service paperwork together before we schedule the pickup.
On the North American Rail Network kept by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, the Orlando rail yard is 15.6 miles east and the Taft yard is 18 miles east. A day cab that shuttles freight to those yards can stay wherever it is parked in east Orange County; send the address and the VIN and we arrange the collection there.
Small fleets on Oakland’s FMCSA roll
Of Oakland’s 26 active carriers, FMCSA’s carrier census shows 22 hauling only within Florida and just 4 crossing state lines. For most sellers here, that means a Florida-only operating authority to close out alongside the sale, so keep your USDOT number to hand when you call.
General freight is listed by 18 of those carriers in the FMCSA census, with machinery and large objects and motor vehicles at 6 each and household goods at 4. Flatbeds, car haulers and box trucks all fall within what we purchase, and a photo of the deck, ramps or box with the title in hand is a good place to start.
The biggest fleet in the census here runs 5 power units with 5 drivers, followed by fleets of 3 and 2 trucks, and 9 of the carriers are private fleets moving their own goods. Owners of a single truck or a small group can sell one unit or several in the same conversation.
Wholesale, builders, nurseries
Jobs, builders and growers nearby
The Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts for 2023 put 1,803 jobs in Oakland, with 257 of them in wholesale trade, 154 in manufacturing, 130 in construction and 67 in transportation and warehousing. Straight trucks that make wholesale deliveries out of the area are welcome; list the body type and gross weight rating when you contact us.
A contractor’s dump truck, flatbed or service body can be collected from the job yard where it stands, so tell us whether a loader or tow access will be needed at the site.
Orange County holds 600 farms in USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture, and foliage plants, propagative material and potted flowering plants top its list. Nursery growers who move plants in refrigerated or box trucks can sell those trucks too; bring the registration and any reefer unit service records.
Title and records before we collect
A clear title in the seller’s name is the main document for any sale here. If the title has gone missing, a replacement comes from the state’s title agency, so start that request before the pickup date is set.
Besides the title, gather the current registration, maintenance or inspection records if you have them, and a few clear photos from each side. If a lender still holds a lien, tell us at the outset so the payoff can be handled along with the paperwork.
