Haulers east of Sarasota
One hundred eleven carriers on Old Miakka’s back roads
FMCSA’s carrier census counts 111 active motor carriers based in and around Old Miakka, and 58 of them are private fleets hauling their own goods rather than freight for hire. A truck owned by a nursery, a ranch or a builder is as welcome to us as one run by a for-hire outfit, so tell us which kind of operation yours belongs to when you get in touch.
Of those 111 carriers, 94 run intrastate and 16 cross state lines, according to the same FMCSA census. For most sellers here that means the truck carries a Florida registration only; have that registration card in the cab alongside the title so the pickup driver can match both to the VIN.
FMCSA’s census logs one Old Miakka carrier starting up in 2024 and then ten more during 2025. If you started up recently and are now letting a tractor or straight truck go, your purchase paperwork and the lienholder’s details are the two things to dig out first.
Machinery, hay and general freight out of eastern Sarasota
General freight leads the cargo list, with 47 local carriers declaring it in FMCSA’s census, followed by 21 that move machinery and large objects. Lowboys, step-decks and the tractors that pull them fit the second group; send photos of the trailer deck and the tractor together if you are selling both.
Nineteen carriers around Old Miakka list farm supplies and 14 list grain, feed and hay, FMCSA records show. Feed trucks and hay haulers parked behind a barn or at the end of a pasture lane are a normal collection for us; give us the gate code or tell us which fence line the truck sits beside.
Out here a 14-unit fleet is the biggest on file in FMCSA’s census, with 14 drivers, and the next two run 10 and 7 power units. Small fleets selling two or three units at once can list every VIN in one message and we will plan the collection as a single visit.
Port, mine and rail
North-west to the port, north-east to Wingate Creek
Twelve miles north-west of town, the Bureau of Transportation Statistics lists Manatee County Port. A day cab or chassis truck that has worked the port gate is one we can collect wherever it is parked now, whether that is at a yard near the docks or back at home in Old Miakka.
The Mine Safety and Health Administration lists Wingate Creek Mine, an industrial-mineral operation about 15.6 miles to the north-east. Dump trucks and haulers that have served the mine road can be picked up on site if the operator allows access, so check that with the mine office before you give us the address.
A rail yard recorded as Brandenton lies 20.1 miles north-west on the North American Rail Network kept by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics. Trucks that shuttle loads to that yard are within our collection area, and the VIN and a current odometer photo are what we need to start.
Inspection-lane model years for Old Miakka’s hauling fleet
FMCSA roadside inspection records from October 2024 to August 2026 cover 33 trucks from local carriers, and their median model year is 2008. Whatever year your truck is, the model year printed on the title is what we go by, so make sure the title and the VIN plate agree.
In the same roadside inspection records, about 73 percent of those 33 trucks were ten or more model years old. If yours is one of them, the inspection reports from those stops belong with the truck; they show where it has been and who has looked at it.
Among the 25 Old Miakka carriers that filed yearly mileage with FMCSA, the middle figure is 10,000 miles per truck. A low-mileage farm or nursery truck that spends most of the year parked is easy for us to arrange around; just tell us the hours someone will be on the property.
Crews, nurseries, cattle
Builders, nurseries and cattle around Old Miakka
Construction accounts for 101 of the 244 jobs located in Old Miakka, about 41 percent, on the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts for 2023. Dump trucks, flatbeds and material haulers working for those crews can be collected from a job site as easily as from a driveway, so long as someone can let our driver in.
Across the county the Census Bureau’s County Business Patterns tallies 66 construction businesses, from site-work contractors to builders. If your truck belongs to one of those firms, have the registered owner’s name on the title match the business name, or bring the paperwork that links the two.
Propagative material, cattle and foliage plants top the farm list for the 286 farms that USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture counts across Sarasota County. Nursery box trucks and cattle haulers from those operations are trucks we buy; photos of the body and the cab together tell us most of what we need.
Signing over at the Sawyer Loop service center
When an Old Miakka truck changes hands, its Florida title runs through the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles, whose counters are county tax collector service centers and license plate agents. For an Old Miakka seller the nearest one the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles lists is the Sarasota County motor vehicle service center - Sarasota at 6100 Sawyer Loop Rd., Sarasota, 34238, about 12.4 miles from town.
A lost title can be replaced at that Sawyer Loop Road center before we collect the truck. If a loan is still on the truck, bring the lienholder’s release along, since the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles needs it to issue a clear title in your name.
