Crossing to the key
Bridges onto Siesta Key
The National Bridge Inventory kept by the Federal Highway Administration records 13 bridges around Siesta Key, with none posted for a reduced load and none under 14 feet of clearance. A tractor, a dump truck or a box truck parked on the key can therefore be collected where it sits, so give us the street address and say whether it is in a driveway, a lot or a job site.
Since the National Bridge Inventory lists no low structures on those 13 crossings, a tall box body or a sleeper does not need to be moved off the island before you sell it. Tell us the body height and the trailer, if one goes with it, so we send the right equipment across.
Work on the key
Jobs, wholesale routes and contractors
For 2023, the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts place 2,039 jobs in Siesta Key, and 122 of them, about 6 percent, are in wholesale trade. If your straight truck or reefer has run deliveries to the island’s restaurants and stores, photograph the cargo box inside and out and note its length when you contact us.
Building work on the key shows up in the Census Bureau’s County Business Patterns as eight construction establishments within Siesta Key. A dump truck, flatbed or service body that has hauled for one of them sells the same way as a road tractor: send the VIN, the odometer reading and clear photos of the cab, frame and any mounted equipment.
Contractor trucks on the key are often parked at a home rather than a yard. Let us know who can hand over the keys on the day, and whether a gate code or a parking permit is needed to reach the vehicle.
Growers inland
Propagation houses, foliage and herds
Inland from the key, 286 Sarasota County farms appear in USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture, where propagative material comes first, then cattle, then foliage plants. Nursery stock and potted foliage travel in box trucks and reefers, so if yours carried plants, mention any racks or climate units fitted to the body.
Cattle operations in the county run livestock trailers and the tractors that pull them. Should your truck be kept on a ranch inland rather than on the key, give us directions to the barn or pasture gate and we will arrange collection there.
Up the Manatee shore
Rail, port and fuel terminal to the north
Fourteen miles north, a rail yard listed as Brandenton appears in the North American Rail Network maintained by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics. Day cabs that shuttle loads to and from that yard can be picked up on either side of the county line, so tell us which side the truck is kept on.
About 18 miles north-east, the Bureau of Transportation Statistics lists the Manatee County Port. If your tractor has pulled containers or flatbeds out of there, list the trailers it worked with and whether any of them are part of the sale.
Twenty-five miles up the coast from Siesta Key sits the Port Manatee petroleum product terminal, as the Energy Information Administration lists it. A tanker or a fuel truck that loaded there needs its tank inspection records gathered with the title before we talk, since those papers travel with the vehicle.
Getting the Florida title and logs together
Find the Florida title first, and check that the name on it matches the name on the registration. If a lender still holds the title, have the payoff contact handy so the release can be arranged as part of the sale.
Gather service records, any inspection reports and the spare keys, then take photos in daylight on the key or at the mainland yard where the truck is parked. With those in hand, one conversation covers everything we need to know about the truck.
The questions we get asked in Siesta Key
- With my truck sitting in a Siesta Key driveway, will the bridges stop a pickup?None of the 13 bridges recorded by the National Bridge Inventory around Siesta Key is posted for a reduced load or sits under 14 feet, so we collect the truck on the island; send us the address and where it is parked.
- I hauled nursery stock across Sarasota County. Do you buy box trucks and reefers?Propagative material and foliage plants lead USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture list for the county’s 286 farms, and the box trucks and reefers that move them are trucks we buy; send photos of the body and any climate unit.
- The truck worked out of Port Manatee but I live on the key. Is pickup at the port side or on the key?Port Manatee’s terminal is 25 miles north of Siesta Key on the Energy Information Administration’s listing, and we collect the truck wherever it is kept, at the port side or on the island, once you give us the location and a contact.
