Two pits, one sand plant
NORTH MINE, Stavola and the Weirsdale sand
NORTH MINE, a crushed-stone quarry the Mine Safety and Health Administration lists 6.6 miles south-west of town, and Stavola NW Pit, another crushed-stone site 7.3 miles to the north-west, are the closest working mines to Silver Springs. If your dump truck or tractor runs aggregate out of either one, it may well be parked at a pit gate or a contractor’s yard rather than at home; give us that address and we collect it there.
Further out, the Mine Safety and Health Administration places Ocala Quarry, an industrial-mineral mine, 16.3 miles north-west, and the Weirsdale Sand Plant, a sand and gravel operation, 20.3 miles south-east. A truck that splits its week between those sites and the stone pits closer in can be picked up wherever it ends the day. Send a photo of the VIN plate, the cab and each axle so we know which unit we are coming for.
Drop lots between Ocala and WILDWOOD
Heading south out of Silver Springs, the nearest rail yard is WILDWOOD, 24.3 miles away on the North American Rail Network that the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics maintain. If your tractor shuttles loads between that yard and shippers around Ocala, tell us which drop lot or yard it is kept at.
Have the registration and any service records together before we arrive at the yard or lot. If a trailer is coupled to the tractor and is not part of the sale, say so up front so the pickup is planned for the tractor alone.
Sixty-nine small carriers, most of them in-state
Of the 69 Silver Springs carriers active in FMCSA’s carrier census, just 7 are registered for interstate work and the other 62 keep to Florida roads. Thirty-eight are private fleets moving their own goods, so a truck from here is as likely to belong to a contractor or a farm as to a for-hire hauler; either kind is one we buy.
General freight is the most common cargo on those registrations at 33 carriers, followed by machinery and large objects at 18, motor vehicles at 10, and logs, poles, beams and lumber at 9, according to the same federal census. If you own a flatbed, lowboy, car hauler or log truck from one of these outfits, tell us the body type and the trailer it pulled.
None of these fleets is large: the biggest three registered in town run 4, 3 and 2 power units, each with a driver per truck, per FMCSA. Owner-operators and two- or three-truck businesses can sell one unit and keep working the rest, and we only need the paperwork for the truck being sold.
Silver Springs carriers had 89 of their trucks pulled in for checks from September 2024 through August 2026, and FMCSA roadside inspection records put the middle model year of that group at 2019. Roughly 29 percent of the 89 had ten or more model years on them, by the same FMCSA inspection log.
Whatever year your truck is, the steps are the same: the title in your name, the current Florida registration, and photos of the odometer, the cab and the VIN. For a newer unit still under a loan, have the lender’s name and account number ready so the lien can be cleared at the sale.
The Ocala service counter
A Silver Springs truck title comes from the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles, and the paperwork itself goes across the counter at county tax collector service centers and license plate agents. For Silver Springs that means the Marion County motor vehicle service center - Ocala, at 503 SE 25th Ave., Ocala, 34471, which the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles lists 3.8 miles from town.
If the title is missing, start the duplicate there before you call us, and bring your driver’s license and the VIN. A truck can still be listed with us while the replacement is in process; we just collect it once the new title is in hand.
Construction, factories and horse country
The Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts for 2023 put 791 jobs in Silver Springs, with construction holding 131 of them, or 16.6 percent, and manufacturing 122, or 15.4 percent. On the building side, the Census Bureau’s County Business Patterns tallies 79 construction establishments here. Dump trucks, flatbeds and box trucks that serve job sites and plants here can be collected from the site itself if that is where they sit.
Around the town, Marion County held 3,329 farms in USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture, and equine operations, cattle and foliage plants were the leading products. Stock trailers’ tow units, hay haulers and nursery box trucks from those farms are trucks we buy; tell us the gate code or the barn the truck is parked by.
Off the road network, the National Bridge Inventory records five bridges around Silver Springs, and none of them carries a load posting or sits under a fourteen-foot clearance. Tell us if the truck sits down a farm lane or at a quarry entrance, and we plan the collection for that spot.
The questions we get asked in Silver Springs
- Do you buy trucks that only work inside Florida?Sixty-two of the 69 Silver Springs carriers in FMCSA’s census run intrastate only, so most trucks here never leave the state, and that is no obstacle to selling one. Text over the VIN, a few cab and axle photos and the Florida registration to get started.
