Distribution jobs
Wholesale routes out of South Highpoint
The Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts for 2023 place 745 jobs in South Highpoint, and 218 of them, or 29.3 percent, sit in wholesale trade. Box trucks, reefers and day cabs on distribution runs are the vehicles that kind of work keeps around, so if yours delivered for a wholesaler in this part of Pinellas, tell us the body type and the VIN when you first reach out.
A wholesale truck is often parked at a warehouse dock or a shared yard rather than at the owner’s home. Give us the street address of the lot and the name of whoever controls the gate, and we will set the collection up around that person instead of asking you to move the truck.
Have the title in the name that appears on the registration before we arrive. If the title went missing, the state’s title agency issues a duplicate, so start that request before the sale.
Job sites, shop floors
Construction and manufacturing trucks
Construction accounts for 65 local jobs, 8.7 percent of the total, in the 2023 LEHD figures from the Census Bureau, and manufacturing matches it at 65 jobs and 8.7 percent. Dump trucks, flatbeds, stake beds and service bodies are what those trades put on Pinellas roads, and each of them is a truck we purchase.
A dump truck or flatbed from a job site is easiest to collect once it is back at the shop or the contractor’s yard. Photograph the cab, the body, the frame rails and the tires in daylight, and send the pictures with the VIN so the description and the photos tell the same story.
For a truck that has spent its working life at a fabrication or production plant, any service log the shop kept is useful to send along. If the log stayed with a former employer, say so; we will work from the photos and what you can tell us.
Terminal racks east
Tank work along the Tampa side of the bay
The Energy Information Administration lists the Port Tampa Blending Terminal 10.5 miles east of South Highpoint and the Tampa Terminal at 11.2 miles, both petroleum product terminals. Tractors that pull fuel tankers between racks like these and Pinellas stations are welcome here, with or without the tank trailer.
Another 16.3 miles east, the CITGO Petroleum Corporation liquid bulk terminal appears in Bureau of Transportation Statistics records. If your tractor loaded at that site, keep any terminal access cards and hazmat placard records together with the title and send copies along.
A tanker tractor that is still on a terminal property needs a contact who can sign us in. Pass that name to us with the address, and the pickup can be booked around the terminal’s own visitor rules.
Sidings and silos
Yards, rail and the cement plant
At 9.1 miles south, the North American Rail Network shows the St. Petersburg rail yard, and its Port Tampa yard lies 16.1 miles east across the water. Drayage tractors and yard trucks that shuttle freight to and from rail sidings belong on the list of what we collect from this corner of Pinellas.
The Mine Safety and Health Administration records the Tampa Cement Grinding Plant 16.5 miles to the east. Bulk pneumatic tankers and mixer trucks working out of a cement plant can be collected at the plant gate or wherever they are now parked.
Whichever yard your truck is sitting in, tell us whether a loaded trailer is still coupled to it. An empty fifth wheel and a clear path out of the lot are the two things our driver checks first.
Leaving Pinellas Park AFRC or MacDill with a truck
Pinellas Park AFRC, a military installation the Bureau of Transportation Statistics places 4.6 miles south-east, is the closest of the sites around South Highpoint. MacDill Air Force Base follows at 13.7 miles east in Bureau of Transportation Statistics records.
Owners who work on or near either installation and are being reassigned do not need to sell before they leave. Leave the truck where it is parked off base, give us the address and a local contact with the keys, and finish the paperwork from your next posting.
Mail the signed title and a copy of the registration once the pickup is set. If the title is held by a lender, send us the lender’s name so the release can be arranged before the truck goes.
Growers and keepers
Potted plants, hives and herds near South Highpoint
Pinellas County holds 115 farms, and potted flowering plants lead its output ahead of honey and cattle, in USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture. Nursery stake trucks, small reefers that carry plants to garden centers, and cattle haulers all come off farms like these.
A farm truck that is registered to the farm rather than to a person needs the farm’s name on the title to match the seller. Bring the business documents that show who can sign, and the sale goes through in the farm’s name.
The questions we get asked in South Highpoint
- My fuel tractor sits by the Port Tampa racks across the bay; does it have to come over to South Highpoint first? The Port Tampa Blending Terminal sits 10.5 miles east of South Highpoint on Energy Information Administration records, and we collect from that side of the bay where the tractor already is. Pass along the terminal lot’s address and whoever signs visitors in there.
- I drove for a wholesale distributor here. Is a box truck something you buy?Wholesale trade holds 218 of South Highpoint’s 745 jobs in the Census Bureau’s 2023 LEHD counts, and the box trucks and reefers on those routes are trucks we buy. Send the VIN, the body type and photos of the cab and box.
- The Florida title for my rig has gone missing; where does a duplicate come from? For a truck titled in Florida, the state’s title agency issues a duplicate title to the owner of record. Start that request early and tell us it is on the way, so the rest of the sale can be lined up in the meantime.
- My orders move me away from MacDill before the tractor is sold; is that a problem?MacDill Air Force Base lies 13.7 miles east of South Highpoint by Bureau of Transportation Statistics records, and a truck parked near it off base can stay put after you leave. Name a local contact with the keys and handle the signing by mail.
