Island town
A small island town with work on every side
The Census Bureau puts Tierra Verde’s population at 4,108, and its LEHD job counts (LODES) record 1,017 jobs located here in 2023. A town of that size rarely keeps a big yard of its own, so a truck tied to Tierra Verde is often parked in a driveway, a marina lot or a contractor’s yard off the island. Tell us the exact spot and who holds the key, and we plan the collection around that address.
Eight construction establishments are based in Tierra Verde on the Census Bureau’s County Business Patterns tally. Dump trucks, flatbeds and box trucks that work building sites on the barrier islands are the kind we buy here. Before you call, find the title and the current registration and take photos of the cab, the bed and each side of the truck.
Sidings and boxes
Rail yards and the container ramp up the bay
On the North American Rail Network maintained by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, the St Petersburg rail yard lies 9.5 miles north-east of Tierra Verde and the Port Manatee yard 11.8 miles east. Tractors that shuttle freight to and from those sidings can be sold from wherever they are stopped; give us the yard or lot name and a phone number for whoever opens the gate.
Hooker’s Point Container Terminal, a rail intermodal ramp, sits 25 miles north-east of town according to the Bureau of Transportation Statistics. If your day cab or sleeper pulls containers off that ramp, send the VIN and the odometer reading with your first message, plus any service records you keep in the cab.
Racks across the bay
Fuel racks east and north-east of the island
The Energy Information Administration lists a petroleum product terminal at Port Manatee, 10.5 miles east of Tierra Verde, and the Port Tampa Blending Terminal 17.4 miles to the north-east. A tank truck or tractor that loads at either site is one we will look at; tell us which terminal it served and keep any inspection reports from those runs with the title.
Fuel haulers often keep their equipment close to the loading racks rather than at home on the island. If the tractor stays near Port Manatee or Port Tampa, it can stay put, because we collect from the lot where it sits once you confirm the address and access hours.
Bases and a mine
Military bases and Caloosa Materials
Two military installations appear in Bureau of Transportation Statistics records near town: Pinellas Park AFRC, 13.6 miles north, and MacDill Air Force Base, 18.5 miles north-east. A truck that has delivered to base gates usually carries a paper trail of gate passes and logs; those papers help us see where it has worked, though none are required to sell.
Caloosa Materials, an industrial-mineral mine listed by the Mine Safety and Health Administration, lies 17.6 miles east. Aggregate haulers and dump trucks that load there can be photographed at the pit or the yard; include the frame, the tires and the body in the photos you send.
Southern Pinellas growers
Potted plants, honey and cattle nearby
USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture counts 115 farms across Pinellas County, with potted flowering plants, honey and cattle named as leading products. Nursery box trucks, stake beds and livestock haulers from those operations fit what we buy.
A farm truck sometimes sits on a property for long stretches between seasons. Leave it where it is, send us the farm address, and check that the title is in the name of the person selling; if it has gone missing, the state’s title agency issues a replacement before the sale.
The questions we get asked in Tierra Verde
- My tanker stays by the Port Manatee fuel terminal rather than on the island; will you pick it up from that lot?Port Manatee’s petroleum product terminal lies 10.5 miles east of Tierra Verde on Energy Information Administration listings, and we collect from that side of the bay as well. Share which Port Manatee lot holds the tanker and the gate contact for it.
- The title for my Tierra Verde truck is lost; where do I get a replacement?Tierra Verde owners replace a lost title through the state’s title agency, so request a duplicate there first. Tell us when you first contact us, and send the registration and the VIN so we can start the rest.
- Is a dump truck loading aggregate at Caloosa Materials something you take?Caloosa Materials, listed by the Mine Safety and Health Administration 17.6 miles east of town, is the kind of site our dump truck sellers work from. Photos from the pit, the VIN and the yard where it parks between loads are all we need to begin.
