Owner-operators and small fleets in eastern Hillsborough
General freight is the declared work of 192 Valrico outfits, out of the 292 active ones that FMCSA’s carrier census places in town. If your truck pulled dry vans or flatbeds for one of these small operations, have the title in the owner’s name and the current Florida registration on hand before you call us.
Of those Valrico carriers, 213 are registered for intrastate work, 77 for interstate work and 48 run private fleets carrying their own goods, according to the same FMCSA census. A truck that only ever crossed Hillsborough and its neighbouring counties can be sold with nothing more than the title, the registration and a few clear photos.
Valrico added 29 newly registered carriers in 2024 and another 32 in 2025, going by the federal carrier census. If you are one of those owners and the truck still carries a lender’s lien, tell us the lender’s name at the start so the payoff paperwork can be lined up with the sale.
Car haulers and lowboys
Vehicles, machinery and towaway work
Thirty-four Valrico carriers haul motor vehicles and 22 more list driveaway or towaway work, per FMCSA registrations. If yours is a car hauler, photograph the deck and the ramps along with the cab, and send the VIN from the door jamb.
Machinery and large objects appear as cargo for 26 carriers in town under the FMCSA census. Lowboy tractors and heavy-haul rigs are on our list; if the trailer goes with the tractor, have the title for each one ready.
The three largest fleets based here run 67, 18 and 9 power units, the carrier census shows, so most Valrico trucks belong to owner-operators. Selling a single unit from a home driveway is routine for us; give us the street address and say whether the truck can be reached without moving other vehicles.
The port, the rail yards and the fuel terminals
The Tampa Port Authority, listed by the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, lies 7.1 miles west of Valrico. If your tractor is parked at a lot near the port rather than at home, give us the lot name and a gate contact and we will arrange collection there.
Two rail yards on the North American Rail Network, Yeoman at 9.6 miles and Uceta at 10 miles, sit west of town, and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics places the Tampa intermodal ramp at 9.8 miles. Day cabs that shuttled containers between those yards are trucks we buy; send the VIN and the odometer reading first.
Energy Information Administration records put two Tampa petroleum product terminals at 10.1 and 11.3 miles west, while the Bureau of Transportation Statistics lists the Kinder Morgan liquid bulk terminal at 11.2 miles and Transflo CSXT at 12. For a tank tractor that loaded at those sites, keep any terminal access records and inspection reports with the truck so we can see where it has worked.
Construction crews and warehouse work
Construction accounts for 364 of the 3,691 jobs counted in Valrico for 2023 by the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts, a 9.9 percent share. Dump trucks, flatbeds and tool-body trucks from those crews can be sold from the job site or the contractor’s yard; tell us which one and when it is open.
Around Valrico, 128 construction establishments show up in the Census Bureau’s County Business Patterns, each one a possible owner of the trucks on its jobs. If a business owns the truck, have the person who can sign for the company available, along with the title held in the company’s name.
LEHD figures also show 188 transportation and warehousing jobs, 95 in wholesale trade and 65 in manufacturing here in 2023. Box trucks and straight trucks from that kind of work only need the title, the registration and photos of the box and the liftgate to get started.
Model years and miles
FMCSA roadside inspection records covering 131 Valrico-based trucks between September 2024 and August 2026 give a median model year of 2016, with 45 percent of them ten or more years old. Whatever the year on your title, send it with the VIN so we can match the right truck.
Among the 61 local carriers that reported mileage to FMCSA, the median works out at 42,500 miles per truck a year. Read the odometer before you call and include a photo of it; that single figure answers several of our first questions.
Hillsborough County farm hauling
USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture counts 1,992 farms in Hillsborough County, with aquatic plants, cattle and transplants as the leading products. Livestock haulers and stake-bed trucks that served those farms can be collected straight from the property.
For a farm truck, send a photo of the registration plate along with the title. Give us gate directions and the name of whoever can let us onto the property.
The questions we get asked in Valrico
- My tractor sits at a lot by the Port of Tampa instead of at my Valrico house; will you pick it up from the port side?A port-side lot works fine for us. The Bureau of Transportation Statistics places the Tampa Port Authority 7.1 miles west of Valrico, and we come to the truck wherever it sits; give us the lot name and a gate contact.
- My Valrico site-work business holds the dump truck’s title; which papers should I gather? The title in the company’s name and someone who can sign for the business. The Census Bureau’s County Business Patterns shows 128 construction establishments in the area, and company-owned trucks are a regular part of what we handle.
