Five miles to the dock
A port district north-east of Aberdeen
Aberdeen lies 5.4 miles south-west of the Northern Indiana District, which the Bureau of Transportation Statistics lists as a port. A tractor that shuttles loads between those docks and the yards around town may be parked near the water when you call, and that is fine: give us the street address and the name of whoever holds the gate key.
For a port tractor, have the VIN, the odometer reading and the registration card in hand before you contact us. Add photos of the cab, the frame and the fifth wheel taken in daylight, so the truck we arrive to collect is the one we already saw.
No 1 to Portage
Mine Safety and Health Administration records place a sand and gravel operation called No 1 about 9.6 miles north-east of Aberdeen, and the Portage Operation, a crushed-stone quarry, 13.8 miles to the north. Tri-axle dump trucks and end-dump tractors are the usual equipment hauling out of sites like those, and both are trucks we purchase.
South-west of town, the Mine Safety and Health Administration lists South Lake Stone, a dimension-stone quarry, at 14.2 miles, while Ozinga Materials Hanna, another sand and gravel site, sits 19.9 miles east. If your dump truck is still parked at one of those pits, tell us which one and who can let us onto the site, and we will plan the collection there.
Keep any scale tickets, permit stickers or service logs from quarry work together with the title. They tell us where the truck has hauled without anyone having to guess.
Half of Aberdeen’s jobs are in construction
The Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts recorded 478 jobs in Aberdeen in 2023, and 242 of them, or 50.6 percent, were in construction. Mixers, dump trucks, flatbeds and service bodies are the kind of vehicles construction crews keep, and we buy each of them.
If the truck belongs to a contracting business rather than to you personally, the person signing the title has to be the one the title names. Check that the business name on the title matches the one on the registration before you reach out, and have someone with authority to sign ready for the paperwork.
Burns Harbor and Kirk yards north of town
Two rail yards appear within 18 miles of Aberdeen on the North American Rail Network, kept by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics: Burns Harbor, 12.5 miles north, and Kirk, 17.7 miles north-west. Day cabs that drag containers or flatbed loads to and from rail sidings work this stretch of Porter County.
When a tractor from that rail work is parked at a yard or a drop lot, send us the lot’s address and any gate hours. We collect the truck at that lot; it never has to make the trip back to Aberdeen.
The Griffith terminal and Porter County fields
Griffith, a petroleum product terminal in the Energy Information Administration’s listings, is 17.8 miles west of Aberdeen. Tank trucks and fuel tractors that load at a terminal like that are on our list; tell us what product the tanker carried so we can ask the right questions about the trailer.
According to USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture, Porter County had 462 farms, with corn, soybeans and cattle at the top of its output. Grain trucks, cattle haulers and farm straight trucks from those operations are welcome; if the truck is kept in a barn or a field lot outside Aberdeen, a pin on a map is enough for us to find it.
A duplicate Indiana title, just up the road from Aberdeen
Titles in Indiana come from the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles, and its Valparaiso branch at 1361 Morthland Dr Suite G-H, Valparaiso, 46385, is 2.3 miles from Aberdeen. If the title has gone missing, the Bureau of Motor Vehicles handles a duplicate title application, and the branch is the nearest office for it.
Bring photo identification and the VIN when you visit, and if a lender is still on the title, ask the lender for a lien release first. Once the duplicate is in your hand, send us a photo of the front and back so the paperwork is settled before we arrive.
