Two sand and gravel operations at the edge of town
The Mine Safety and Health Administration lists a sand and gravel operation named Angola 2.2 miles north-west of the town, and Angola Sand & Gravel 3.8 miles to the north-east. A tri-axle dump truck or a tractor that has hauled aggregate out of either pit can stay right where it is parked; give us the gate or yard address and a name we can call there.
Pit trucks tend to collect stamped paperwork, so put the scale tickets aside and gather the title, the current registration and any service records you kept. Add photos of the box, the hoist, the tires and the cab, taken where the truck stands.
South on the corridor
Waterloo’s terminal and the rail yards toward Garrett
Fourteen miles south, at 14.4 miles by the Energy Information Administration’s listing, sits the Waterloo petroleum product terminal. If your tractor has pulled fuel tankers from that rack, tell us whether the tanker goes with it or stays behind, and which unit is titled in your name.
According to the North American Rail Network kept by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, the Steel Dynamics rail yard lies 18.9 miles south of Angola and the Garrett yard 21.2 miles to the south-west. A flatbed or a day cab that shuttles loads to those yards may be parked closer to them than to town, and that is fine: name the lot and we collect from it.
Freight, lumber and grain haulers registered in Angola
Angola is home base for 170 active carriers on FMCSA’s carrier census, with general freight named by 76 of that group. Another 54 haul machinery and large objects in the FMCSA listing. Lowboys, heavy-haul tractors and flatbeds are on the list of what we purchase here, along with dry vans.
Of those carriers, 36 register logs, poles, beams and lumber and 27 register grain, feed and hay, by the same FMCSA census. Log trucks and grain hoppers often sit out on a woodlot or a farm rather than in a yard, so send a pin or a road name and tell us if the lane in is soft or gated.
The census also splits the town’s carriers by how they operate: 70 run interstate, 100 stay intrastate, and 112 are private fleets hauling their own goods. A private-fleet truck sells the same way as a for-hire one; bring the title in the company’s name and someone who can sign for the business.
Angola’s factory floors and the corn and dairy farms around it
Of 9,105 jobs located in Angola in 2023, the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts place 2,112 in manufacturing, a 23.2 percent share, with 179 in wholesale trade and 108 in transportation and warehousing. Box trucks and straight trucks that run parts between plants are trucks we buy, so let us know if the truck is in a plant lot and who controls access to it.
Corn leads soybeans and milk among the 461 Steuben County farms tallied in USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture. A grain truck that sits idle between harvests or a tractor that once pulled milk can be sold from the farmyard; registration and title in the farm’s name is what we need to see.
Construction contractors and their trucks
County Business Patterns, from the Census Bureau, records 51 construction establishments, and the LEHD job counts place 176 construction jobs in Angola for 2023. Contractors in that line run dump trucks, mixer chassis, roll-offs and stake beds, and we take any of them off a job site or out of a shop yard.
If a contractor’s truck carries a body or a crane that was added after it left the factory, list it along with its make and the year it went on. That detail and a photo of the plate on the body answer most of what we would otherwise ask by phone.
Truck ages, miles and drivers around Angola
Across 105 trucks checked between August 2024 and August 2026, FMCSA roadside inspection records give a median model year of 2020, and about 21 percent of them were ten or more years old. Whatever year yours is, start with the VIN, since it tells us the model year, engine and build in one line.
Fifty carriers reported their annual miles to FMCSA’s carrier census, and the median truck among them covered 23,145 miles. Give us the current odometer reading from the dash, along with the engine hours if the truck idles at sites, so the figures we work from are yours.
The same census lists 256 drivers here who stay within 100 miles and 265 who go farther. A truck that runs long routes may be away from Angola when you decide to sell, so tell us where it will be parked at the end of its last trip.
Angola’s 2024 and 2025 start-ups and its biggest fleets
FMCSA’s carrier census records 8 new carriers starting up in Angola in 2025 and 6 in 2024. A small outfit that bought one tractor and is now closing down can sell it to us as one truck, with the title and the operating authority paperwork it was registered under.
Fleets at the top end are not large either: by FMCSA’s census, the three biggest based here run 34, 24 and 21 power units. Selling several trucks from a fleet that size works unit by unit, each with its own title, so send a list of VINs and where each one is parked.
The questions we get asked in Angola
- Our tri-axle hauls aggregate out of Angola Sand & Gravel and is parked there now; does it have to come off the pit before you look at it?Angola Sand & Gravel sits 3.8 miles north-east of town by the Mine Safety and Health Administration’s listing, and we collect from the pit. Tell us who at the pit can let a driver through to the truck.
- I haul grain for a farm in Steuben County. Can the truck be sold from the farm?Steuben County has 461 farms in USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture, and grain trucks are picked up from farmyards here. Have the title and registration ready in whichever name the truck is held.
- The truck runs to the Steel Dynamics rail yard. Would you collect it down there or in Angola? The Steel Dynamics yard is 18.9 miles south of Angola on the North American Rail Network, and we collect from wherever the truck is parked, whether that is near the yard or back in town.
- Our company trucks are a private fleet, not for hire. Are company-owned trucks something you take?Angola has 112 private-fleet carriers in FMCSA’s carrier census, and their trucks sell to us the same way as for-hire ones. Bring the title in the company’s name and a person authorised to sign.
