South on the fuel side
A fuel terminal six miles south and two rail yards past it
Just under six miles below Ashley, at 5.9 miles south, sits the WATERLOO petroleum product terminal that the Energy Information Administration tracks. A tractor or tank unit that loads there is usually parked on a short run back toward town, so give us the yard address and a phone number for whoever holds the keys.
Further down, the North American Rail Network, kept by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, shows the GARRETT yard 12.6 miles south-west and the STEEL DYNAMICS yard 12.6 miles south-east. If your truck shuttles freight between those two sidings, photograph the cab, the frame rails and the fifth wheel, and send the VIN with the photos.
Pit trucks up the road
Dump trucks at the sand and gravel pits
Two sand and gravel operations sit north of town on the Mine Safety and Health Administration’s list: ANGOLA PIT at 8.3 miles and Stoneco Angola Pit at 9.5 miles. A dump truck or tri-axle that works those pits may stay on site between loads; tell us which pit it sits at and who can open the gate.
For a pit truck, have the title, the current registration and any service records together before you contact us. Those three let us confirm what the truck is without a second round of questions.
Ashley’s grain haulers and the farms around them
Across DeKalb County the USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture counted 818 farms, with soybeans, corn and cattle as the top products. Among the carriers based in Ashley, FMCSA’s carrier census records 11 hauling grain, feed and hay and 9 carrying farm supplies.
A grain truck or hopper tractor often spends the off-season in a barn or a field lot outside town. We collect from the farm, so send the farm’s road address and a note on whether a lowboy trailer can turn in at the lane.
Six of Ashley’s carriers list logs, poles, beams and lumber as cargo in FMCSA’s carrier census. Log trucks and flatbeds with stakes are on the list of what we buy; include a photo of the bunks or deck along with the cab.

Twenty-one registered outfits, three sizable fleets
FMCSA’s carrier census lists 21 active carriers in Ashley: 13 operate interstate, 8 stay inside Indiana, and 13 run private fleets hauling their own goods. Fourteen of them carry general freight.
The three largest fleets registered here report 169, 18 and 16 power units, according to the same FMCSA census. Whether you are selling one tractor or several units from a yard, tell us how many and where each is parked.
Eleven Ashley outfits gave FMCSA’s carrier census a yearly mileage, and their median sits at 20,408 miles a truck. FMCSA’s carrier census also counts 102 Ashley drivers working within 100 miles and 113 beyond that radius; if your truck is out on a long run when you call, tell us when it will be back in the yard.
A 2017 median across seventy-four inspected tractors
FMCSA roadside inspection records log 74 Ashley-registered trucks pulled over for checks from September 2024 through August 2026, and the middle model year of that group is 2017. Ten or more model years separated 39 percent of that group from the present, by the same FMCSA roadside count.
Whatever the model year, send the year, make and model with the VIN. If you have the last inspection report, attach it; it answers several questions in one document.
Half of Ashley’s jobs are on a factory floor
The Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts for 2023 put 1,538 jobs in Ashley, with manufacturing at 797, or 51.8 percent. In the same LEHD counts, transportation and warehousing account for 379 jobs and wholesale trade for 180.
Around Ashley, the Census Bureau’s County Business Patterns tally 7 construction establishments within reach of town. A box truck, a straight truck or a construction dump from that work is collected where it is parked, whether that is a plant lot or a job site.
BMV desk in Angola
Getting a duplicate before the tractor leaves Ashley
If the certificate of title is missing, the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles issues a duplicate through its BMV branches. The Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles lists its nearest one, the Angola branch, at 1913 N Wayne St Ste A, Angola, 46703, about 9.8 miles from Ashley.
Bring your photo ID and the truck’s VIN to that branch, and let us know you have applied, so we can line up the rest of the sale while the duplicate is on its way.
Clear spans on the way in to Ashley
The National Bridge Inventory from the Federal Highway Administration lists 5 bridges around Ashley, none load-posted and none under fourteen-foot clearance. A tow truck or lowboy can reach most addresses here without a detour around a bridge.
Still, tell us about any tight farm lane, soft field entrance or low barn door at the pickup spot, so the right equipment arrives the first time.
