FMCSA’s carrier census shows 39 active carriers based in Austin, and 28 of them operate as private fleets hauling their own goods rather than for hire. If your truck belongs to a business like that, have the title in the business’s name ready, along with a note of who can sign for the company.
Of those 39, the federal carrier census counts 29 working intrastate only and 10 authorised to cross state lines. A tractor or straight truck that never left Indiana still needs its Indiana registration and title on hand when you contact us; for one that ran interstate, keep the cab card and any apportioned plates paperwork together with it.
Per FMCSA’s census, the biggest Austin carrier lists 13 power units and 2 drivers, the next 7 power units and 2 drivers, and a third lists 3 power units with 10 drivers. Whether you are selling one unit or several from a yard like those, send the VIN of each and say where each one is parked.
General freight is the most common cargo line, listed by 15 Austin carriers in FMCSA’s carrier census. Box trucks, dry vans and the tractors that pull them fit that work; photos of the cab, the box or trailer and the VIN plate tell us what you have before anything else is asked.
Seven local carriers list machinery and large objects, according to the same federal census, and six each list logs, poles, beams and lumber or motor vehicles. Lowboys, log trucks and car haulers from that work are on our list too, so tell us what body or trailer the truck carries and whether it goes with the sale.
Only a handful of carriers opened here lately: FMCSA’s records show one new Austin carrier in 2025 and two in 2024. If yours is one of those young operations and you are winding it down, the registration and the title are the two papers to find first.
A dump truck or tri-axle that has worked those faces can be collected from the site; tell us whose ground it sits on so the gate can be opened when we arrive.
North-west of town, Spray Inc. dba Spray Sand & Gravel is 16.7 miles out and imi Brownstown Sand & Gravel is 18.2 miles out, both on Mine Safety and Health Administration listings. If your truck is parked at one of those pits, give us the pit name and a contact there instead of moving the truck home.
The Seymour terminal to the north
Tankers that load there and deliver around Scott and Jackson counties count among the trucks we purchase, with or without the tank trailer.
For a fuel truck, keep any tank test certificates and hazmat placard records with the title, since those papers describe the equipment in a way that photos of the barrel cannot. If you have none, tell us what the truck hauled and from where.
Drivers for Austin carriers mostly stay close: FMCSA’s carrier census records 52 drivers working within 100 miles and 19 going beyond it. A truck that comes back to town each night is usually easiest to collect from the home yard, so give us that address.
Nine local carriers report mileage to FMCSA, and the median among them is 32,079 miles per truck a year. Put the current odometer reading in your first message next to the VIN, and we will ask anything further from there.
Farm country and local work
USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture counts 283 farms in Scott County, with corn, cattle and goats as the leading products. Grain trucks, livestock haulers and farm-plated straight trucks from those operations can be sold to us; a farm plate does not change the need for a clear title in the owner’s name.
Dump trucks, flatbeds and service bodies from local building work fit here too; send photos along with the registration and any service records you kept.
A title that has gone missing is replaced through the state’s title agency before the sale closes. Start that request early, and tell us it is under way so we can plan the collection around it.
