Pits past the town line
Gravel pits and a rail yard on the Garrett side of town
The Mine Safety and Health Administration lists the Garrett Plant, a sand and gravel operation, 3.6 miles east of Avilla, and Hixson Sand & Gravel Inc 5.7 miles to the south-east. A dump truck or tri-axle that loads at either pit can stay parked at the yard it works from; send us that address and the gate contact, and we arrange collection there.
Just beyond the pit, the GARRETT rail yard appears 4.2 miles east on the North American Rail Network kept by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics. If your tractor shuttles loads to that siding, note which trailer it usually pulls and include a photo of the fifth wheel with the cab shots.
Farther south, Ardmore Stone Quarry is a crushed-stone quarry 23.4 miles from town by the Mine Safety and Health Administration’s listing. Aggregate trucks that split their week between Ardmore and the Garrett pits are welcome; tell us where the truck sleeps at night so we know which lot to visit.
Avilla tankers serving WATERLOO and Norfolk Southern TBT
North-east of Avilla, about 9.9 miles out, the Energy Information Administration records the WATERLOO petroleum product terminal. Fuel haulers based near Waterloo can keep the tanker hitched; list the tank’s inspection dates when you write to us, alongside the tractor’s own records.
Norfolk Southern TBT, a liquid bulk terminal, sits 21.7 miles to the south-east according to the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, and the STEEL DYNAMICS rail yard lies 16.5 miles east on the North American Rail Network. A day cab that rotates between those two sites can be photographed wherever it is parked; we need the VIN, the odometer reading and four sides of the truck.
Forty-two Avilla authorities
Small Avilla outfits hauling for their own businesses
Of Avilla’s 42 active carriers, 29 are private fleets carrying goods for the business that owns the truck, according to FMCSA’s carrier census. Twelve hold interstate authority and thirty stay inside Indiana, so most trucks we would collect here are working in-state when you call.
Machinery and large objects account for 15 carriers in that census, matching the 15 that haul general freight; another 8 carry grain, feed or hay and 5 move logs, poles, beams or lumber. Lowboys, flatbeds, hopper trailers and log trucks all fit what we buy, so name the trailer type when you get in touch.
Fleets here are small: in FMCSA’s carrier census, the three biggest run 9, 6 and 6 power units. Across 13 carriers that reported mileage, the median sits at 10,000 miles per truck in that same census, so keep the logbook or service file nearby when you describe the unit.
Parts runs off Avilla plants
Manufacturing holds two of every three jobs in Avilla
Manufacturing filled 1,071 of Avilla’s 1,577 jobs in 2023, or 67.9 percent, by the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts. Box trucks and straight trucks that run parts between those plants qualify too; have the registration and title in the same name before we schedule a pickup.
Sixteen construction firms operate locally, the Census Bureau’s County Business Patterns reports. Contractors retiring a dump body, stake bed or equipment hauler can send photos from the job site, and we will collect from there rather than the shop.
Grain and livestock hauling around Avilla’s farms
Around Avilla, corn, soybeans and hogs lead Noble County’s 1,067 farms in USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture. A grain truck or livestock hauler can be collected from the farm lane where it is parked; tell us whether the ground is firm enough for a tow rig to reach it.
Harvest trucks often sit idle between seasons, and that is fine for us. Gather the title, a current registration and a few clear pictures of the bed, hoist or trailer floor, and send them along with the farm’s address.
Kendallville BMV
Replacing a missing title six miles from Avilla
The Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles issues duplicate titles through its BMV branches, and the nearest one is the Kendallville branch at 856 North Lima Rd, Kendallville, 46755, roughly 6.5 miles from Avilla. If the original has gone missing, apply there for a replacement before we book the collection.
When a lender still appears on the title, bring the lien release to the Kendallville branch as well. A title that matches the registration name, with no open lien, lets the sale close without another trip to the BMV.
