Two petroleum terminals on either side of Granger
The Energy Information Administration places the Granger petroleum product terminal 1.5 miles north-east of town and the South Bend terminal 10.2 miles to the south-west. If your tractor is parked near either rack, we arrange the collection at that lot. Send the address of the lot and the name of whoever holds the gate key.
If your tractor pulled product out of the Granger rack, keep the tank trailer separate in what you tell us: say whether you are selling the tractor alone or both units. Send photos of the cab, the fifth wheel, each axle and the VIN plate with the title details.
Elkhart and Olivers yards, south-east and south-west
Per the North American Rail Network kept by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, the Elkhart rail yard lies 7.7 miles south-east of Granger and the Olivers yard 9.7 miles south-west. If your day cab drayed freight to and from those two yards, we collect it on either side of town.
When the truck sits at a yard-side lot rather than your own property, tell us whose lot it is and the hours the gate is staffed. Have the title in the name that appears on the registration; if those two names differ, explain why when you first get in touch so the transfer can be planned around it.
Granger’s flatbed, freight and coil haulers
FMCSA’s carrier census counts 101 active carriers based in Granger: 62 run interstate, 39 stay within Indiana, and 64 operate as private fleets hauling their own goods. Whichever group your truck came from, the same three documents start a sale here: the title, the current registration and any service records you kept.
Of those Granger carriers, 44 list general freight with FMCSA, 18 haul machinery and large objects, 11 carry logs, poles, beams and lumber, and 10 move metal sheets, coils and rolls. A flatbed tractor set up for coil racks or a lowboy rig for equipment both fall within what we purchase, so describe the trailer setup alongside the tractor.
Registrations picked up recently, with 12 new carriers entering the FMCSA census in 2025 against 2 in 2024. If your operation is one of the newer ones and you are selling a truck you bought only a year or two ago, the lienholder’s name and a payoff letter are the papers to gather first.
From single trucks to large Granger fleets
The three biggest fleets based in Granger, as filed with FMCSA’s carrier census, run 503, 112 and 15 power units, with 405, 66 and 7 drivers respectively. We buy one truck from an owner-operator or several from a fleet; for more than one, a list of VINs with unit numbers lets us plan the collection in a single trip.
Drivers at Granger carriers split between short and long routes: FMCSA’s census records 318 working within 100 miles and 528 beyond it. Across the 32 local carriers that reported mileage to FMCSA, the median truck logged 10,000 miles a year. Give us the odometer reading as shown on the dash, and we read it for what it is: a figure, not a judgement.
Roadside checks on St. Joseph County rigs
FMCSA roadside inspection records cover 323 trucks checked from August 2024 to August 2026 in this area; half were model year 2022 or newer, and 9.9 percent had reached ten or more model years. Both newer and older units are trucks we purchase, and the model year is simply one line on the form.
If your truck went through one of those roadside inspections, keep the report it produced with the title. Hand it over with the registration and any maintenance log, so the history we see is the one the inspector recorded.
Gravel pits, building sites and county farms
The Mine Safety and Health Administration lists South Bend Sandpit 14.1 miles south-west of Granger and L-Bob Gravel 16.1 miles east. If your dump truck hauls from those pits and sits at a contractor’s yard between jobs, we collect from there; tell us whether the bed and hoist are part of the sale.
Construction accounts for 370 of the 4,343 jobs located in Granger in 2023, or 8.5 percent, on the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts, with manufacturing at 331 and wholesale trade at 165. County Business Patterns from the Census Bureau records 73 construction establishments, so a mixer, roll-off or flatbed may be parked at a jobsite; send the site address and a contact on the ground.
St. Joseph County has 547 farms according to USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture, with corn, soybeans and hogs as the leading products. A grain truck or livestock hauler kept in a farm shed is a pickup we can arrange, so long as the lane to the building is passable for a tow unit; say what surface it sits on.
The questions we get asked in Granger
- Can my tractor stay on the lot beside the Granger fuel rack until you collect? The Energy Information Administration puts that terminal 1.5 miles north-east of Granger, and we can collect from a lot beside it. Pass along the lot address plus a phone number for whoever unlocks it.
- I haul out of the Elkhart rail yard. Will you come there?Elkhart’s yard is 7.7 miles south-east of Granger on the North American Rail Network, and a truck parked near it is within reach. Send photos, the VIN and the lot owner’s name.
- Do you take dump trucks from the gravel pits near Granger?South Bend Sandpit and L-Bob Gravel, both on Mine Safety and Health Administration records within about 16 miles of Granger, are the kind of sites dump trucks work, and those trucks are ones we purchase. Tell us where yours is parked and include the title.
- Will you buy three or four tractors from my Granger operation together?Granger’s fleets on FMCSA’s carrier census range up to 503 power units, and we handle sales of one truck or many. A list of VINs, unit numbers and titles lets us arrange them together.
