Riverfront fuel
Tank trucks at the Kentuckiana terminal
The Energy Information Administration places the Kentuckiana petroleum product terminal 2.9 miles south of New Albany, and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics lists a liquid bulk terminal at that same distance and direction. If your tractor has pulled fuel tankers out of those riverfront gates, tell us which loading racks it used and send the tank inspection paperwork if it hauls a tank of its own.
A truck that worked the terminal may still be parked in a lot close to the river. Give us the street address, the name of whoever controls the gate, and the hours someone can let us in, and we will arrange the collection with that person rather than ask you to move it.
Dump bodies bound for Atkins and Coopers Lane pits
Atkins Mine, a crushed-stone quarry, lies 4.5 miles east of town and Coopers Lane Mine sits 6.6 miles to the north-east, per Mine Safety and Health Administration records. Tri-axle dumps and end-dump tractors that haul out of pits like these are trucks we buy, so tell us the body type, the axle setup and whether the bed is steel or aluminum.
Southwest of the city, imi New Albany Sand & Gravel is 8.6 miles out on the Mine Safety and Health Administration’s list. If your dump truck is still parked at a pit yard, photos of the bed, the hoist and the cab interior taken where it sits are enough to get started; the truck does not need to leave the site first.
Jeffersonville and MGRI yards to the east
Two rail yards appear east of New Albany in the North American Rail Network kept by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics: Jeffersonville at 4 miles and MGRI at 7.7 miles. Day cabs that shuttle loads between those yards and nearby docks are a good fit for us, and the VIN plus a current odometer photo answer most of our first questions.
If the tractor ended its working life at a yard lot across the county line, it can stay there. Send us the lot address and a contact on site, and keep the registration card with the title so both documents travel together on collection day.
New Albany’s motor carriers and the freight they list
FMCSA’s carrier census counts 214 active carriers based in New Albany, of which 116 run interstate, 97 stay inside Indiana and 138 operate private fleets. Whether your truck carried for hire across state lines or hauled only your own company’s goods, the sale works the same way: title, registration and photos come first.
General freight is the cargo listed by 98 of those carriers, with machinery and large objects at 49, logs, poles, beams and lumber at 28, and garbage and refuse at 20, again on FMCSA’s census. Lowboy tractors, log haulers, roll-offs and rear-loaders all fit that mix, so name the body or trailer the truck was set up for when you contact us.
Among the drivers on those carriers’ rolls, 1,245 work within 100 miles of base and 414 travel farther, according to the same FMCSA census. A regional truck is often parked at home or at the shop between runs, which makes it simple for us to reach.
What Floyd County roadside checks recorded
Across 175 trucks inspected between August 2024 and August 2026, FMCSA roadside inspection records show a median model year of 2019 for New Albany carriers, with 27.43 percent of those trucks ten or more model years old. We buy across that whole range, so give us the year, make and model when you first get in touch.
The median truck at 74 local carriers logged 13,536 miles a year, as the FMCSA carrier census reports it. Have the odometer photo and any service records you keep in one place; they tell us about the truck faster than a description can.
New Albany plant jobs, contractors and corn fields
Manufacturing accounts for 6,079 of the 26,054 jobs in New Albany in 2023, or 23.3 percent, on the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts, while construction holds 1,262 and transportation and warehousing 489. Box trucks, flatbeds and straight trucks serving plants and job sites are as welcome as long-haul sleepers.
Around New Albany, 96 construction firms appear in the Census Bureau’s County Business Patterns. If a contractor’s dump truck or crane truck is the one you are selling, have the title in the business’s name ready, along with proof that you can sign for the company.
Corn leads the 257 Floyd County farms tallied in USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture, followed by soybeans and then cattle. Grain trucks and livestock haulers parked on a farm can be collected from the farm itself; tell us whether the lane takes a full-size tow rig.
The questions we get asked in New Albany
- I can’t find the title for my Floyd County truck. Who reissues it?Indiana’s state title agency handles duplicate titles. Start that request before you sell and tell us it is in progress so we can plan around it.
- Will low bridges around New Albany block the pickup? The National Bridge Inventory from the Federal Highway Administration lists 60 bridges in New Albany, with none load-posted and none under 14 feet of clearance, so routing a tow rig to your truck is straightforward.
- My dump truck is still at a quarry east of New Albany. Does it need hauling out first?Leave it on the quarry ground. Atkins Mine is 4.5 miles east on Mine Safety and Health Administration records, and we come to the truck there. Pass along the name of the quarry staffer who can unlock the pit entrance for our driver.
