Gravel pits west of town and toward Shelbyville
Sand and gravel come out of Marlin Rd Mine, which the Mine Safety and Health Administration places 4.3 miles west, on the near side of town toward Indianapolis. A dump truck or tractor that loads aggregate there is often parked near the pit or in a yard along the way rather than in town, so give us the exact spot and a person who can let us in.
Another sand and gravel site, 750 North Shelbyville IN, is 10.4 miles south-east on the Mine Safety and Health Administration’s records. If your truck splits its days between that operation and the Marlin Rd pit, tell us which one it sits at on weekends, and send photos of the bed, the frame and the tires with the cab.
Two crushed-stone quarries appear farther west in Mine Safety and Health Administration listings: HARDING STREET QUARRY-SURFACE at 15.7 miles and Kentucky Avenue Mine at 16.7 miles. A truck kept on the Indianapolis side for that stone work can stay there; we collect from the lot it uses.
HAWTHORNE, HILL and the ramp on the west side
According to the North American Rail Network kept by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, the HAWTHORNE rail yard lies 10.1 miles west of New Palestine and the HILL yard 11.5 miles west. A day cab that shuttles between those yards and Hancock County customers should be described by its usual route when you first contact us, along with its VIN.
Containers move through the Indianapolis, IN rail intermodal ramp, 14.5 miles west by the Bureau of Transportation Statistics’ listing. If your tractor pulls chassis from that ramp, have the registration and the title in the name on the paperwork before pickup, and we arrange the collection at whichever yard you name.
Freight, reefers and lowboys based in town
Among 108 active New Palestine carriers, FMCSA’s carrier census finds 53 that put general freight on their cargo list. Fifteen haul machinery and large objects, thirteen carry refrigerated food and thirteen carry meat, per the same census. A reefer unit or a lowboy setup is something to mention up front, with photos of the trailer equipment if it goes with the truck.
Of those 108 carriers, 47 run interstate and 61 stay intrastate, and 52 operate as private fleets, by FMCSA’s count. A private fleet selling a unit should have the title holder’s name, a signer for the company and any service records the shop kept ready to hand over.
The largest local fleets are modest: FMCSA’s carrier census lists one with 10 power units and 10 drivers and two with 7 power units each. Owners of one truck or ten deal with us the same way, unit by unit, with the VIN and photos for each.
Roadside inspection logs for rigs from New Palestine and Hancock County
Roadside stops logged by FMCSA from August 2024 to August 2026 caught 109 trucks belonging to New Palestine outfits, and their median model year was 2020. Only 5.5 percent of that inspected group, per FMCSA roadside inspection records, carried a model year ten or more years back.
Whatever the model year, the steps are the same here: the VIN, the odometer reading, the title and current registration, and clear photos from all four sides. Keep any inspection reports from those roadside stops with the truck’s file, since they record where it was checked.
Job sites around town and the county’s grain and hog farms
Of the 1,156 jobs located in New Palestine in 2023, construction held 68, according to the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts. County Business Patterns from the Census Bureau records 48 construction establishments, and a dump truck or flatbed from one of those contractors may be sitting on a job site when it is time to sell; we can collect there if the site contact knows we are coming.
Hancock County holds 505 farms, led by corn, soybeans and hogs, in USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture. A grain truck or livestock hauler kept in a barn or field lot off a county road is collected where it stands, so send the farm address and a phone number for whoever holds the keys.
Title papers and the replacement route
The title should be in the seller’s name, signed as the state’s title agency requires, with any lien released.
Bring the current registration and any loan payoff letter if a lender is still listed. For a company truck from one of the 52 private fleets in FMCSA’s carrier census, include a letter naming who may sign for the business.
The questions we get asked in New Palestine
- Our gravel truck stays out at Marlin Rd Mine between loads. Must we haul it to a lot in town before you collect?Marlin Rd Mine sits 4.3 miles west of New Palestine in Mine Safety and Health Administration records, and we come to the truck at the pit. Tell us who manages the site so the gate can be opened.
- We pull a reefer trailer for a New Palestine food hauler. Can the trailer be sold along with the tractor?Thirteen New Palestine carriers in FMCSA’s carrier census carry refrigerated food, and their tractors and reefer trailers are both on our list. Tell us whether the trailer goes with the tractor and send photos of each.
- The Indiana title for our Hancock County truck has gone missing. Which office reissues it before the truck leaves?Hancock County owners get a missing Indiana title reissued by the state’s title agency, not by us. Start that request, tell us when you have it, and we plan the collection from Hancock County around it.
