Coal ground
Bear Run, Oaktown and the coal haul south of town
The Mine Safety and Health Administration lists Bear Run Mine about 10 miles south-east of Sullivan, and records a highwall mining unit at the same distance and bearing. A tractor or dump truck that has worked that ground may still be parked near the pit road, so give us the gate or lot where it stands and we will plan the collection from there.
Oaktown Fuels Preparation Plant, a coal preparation plant on the Mine Safety and Health Administration register, lies 16.7 miles south of Sullivan. If your truck shuttled loads between the pits and that plant, keep the title, the registration card and any site inspection sheets together in the cab before we arrive.
Yards east, tanks east
Two rail yards and a fuel rack within a day cab’s reach
East of town, at 11.9 miles, the North American Rail Network maps the HIAWATHA rail yard; the same federal rail map shows the BAKER yard 23.6 miles north. A day cab that has run freight to either yard can be collected where it last parked, so send the street address and a photo of the VIN plate.
Switz City, a petroleum product terminal the Energy Information Administration places 19.3 miles east, is the closest fuel terminal on the list. For a tanker tractor that has loaded there, photos of the cab, frame, fifth wheel and tires from all four sides help us read the truck before we see it.
Farm, plant and builder fleets registered in Sullivan
Forty-nine active carriers are registered in Sullivan under FMCSA’s carrier census, and 37 of them are private fleets hauling their own goods. That census shows 21 running interstate and 28 staying inside Indiana, so a truck sold from here may be titled to a farm, a builder or a plant rather than a for-hire outfit; the name on the title is the name we deal with.
By cargo type, FMCSA’s carrier census counts 16 Sullivan carriers moving machinery and large objects, 14 hauling general freight, 14 carrying grain, feed and hay, and 10 moving logs, poles, beams and lumber. Lowboys, flatbeds, grain trailers and log trucks all fit that mix, and we collect tractors and straight trucks alike.
The three biggest local fleets in that census run 19, 16 and 14 power units, with 14, 3 and 17 drivers respectively. If you are clearing several units from a yard of that size, list each VIN and where it stands so one visit can cover them.
Model year 2020 median
Twenty-five Sullivan trucks stopped and logged since 2024
Roadside inspectors logged 25 trucks from Sullivan carriers between October 2024 and August 2026, and FMCSA roadside inspection records put their median model year at 2020, with 24 percent at ten years or older. Have the model year, engine and transmission written down with the VIN, since those three details shape the first questions we ask.
Thirteen Sullivan carriers file annual mileage with FMCSA’s carrier census, and their median truck covers 28,682 miles in a year. Read the odometer before you call and send a photo of it; that reading belongs alongside the title and registration in what you hand over.
In the same FMCSA filings, Sullivan carriers list 74 drivers working within 100 miles and 75 working beyond it. A truck that is out on a longer route when you decide to sell can be picked up wherever it ends the week, inside Indiana or across a state line.
Corn rows and clay pits
Corn, soybeans, cattle and the brickworks
USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture counts 411 farms across Sullivan County, led by corn, soybeans and cattle. Grain trucks and livestock haulers often sit at the farm between harvests, so a farm lane address and a note on how a tow truck reaches the barn are enough for us to schedule a collection.
Boral Bricks Terre Haute In, an industrial-mineral mine the Mine Safety and Health Administration lists 15.9 miles north, and a sand and gravel pit that same register places 20.8 miles north both draw dump trucks and tri-axles. If your dump body has a separate serial plate, photograph it with the chassis VIN.
The Census Bureau’s County Business Patterns records 15 construction establishments in the area, and its LEHD job counts show 1,861 jobs in 2023, 407 of them, or 21.9 percent, in manufacturing. Contractor pickups with dump beds, flatbeds and service bodies from those employers are trucks we collect too.
Folder before pickup
Getting the Indiana title and cab card in order
A missing Indiana title is replaced through the state’s title agency, and the replacement should be in hand, or applied for, before the truck changes owners. If a lender still holds a lien from a farm or equipment loan, ask for the release letter early so it travels with the title.
Service records, the last annual inspection report and the cab card all help a Sullivan sale go smoothly. Put them in one folder, add photos of the dash with the engine hours or odometer showing, and tell us whether the truck sits in town, at a farm or near one of the mine sites south-east of Sullivan.
